Jake was last inside the entrance hall and closed the door behind him. It was a tad cramped with five people crowding the room. In the room with them were a small sideboard with a candlestick phone on top, directly ahead a staircase led to the second level, and at their left tremendously musty drapery separated the hall from the neighboring room. A broken glass light fixture on the ceiling had collected numerous cobwebs and was unlikely to be in good working order, and the green paint was crumbling off the walls.
((Player instructions: You can have your PCs react, but I have more descriptions to write before too much exploring happens.))

Colleen and Jake both stayed close to each other. When she spoke, there was an undertone of fear to her voice,Colleen - "This isn't funny.."
Jake - "Just relax, we'll figure out whats going on and then we'll leave.."

A familiar sound could be heard through the drapes:
Gina - "Don't break anything."
Sam and Zoe - "We won't."
Adrian stepped through with the other four in tow. This room was somewhat shadier with all the windows being covered by lace curtains, and it took their eyes some time to adjust. As things came into focus they saw flowery wallpaper, a rectangular coffee table in front of cushioned chairs on one side of the room, and on the other were a metal fan set on a dresser with a lamp that, again, seemed unlikely to be in good working order, and a flattop console victrola.
As one looked around he or she could spot what was becoming a familiar feature. In a chair sat a bearded peg doll with white pajamas that held open a tiny book, and another peg doll of a girl in a sleeping gown sitting before the victrola with an expectant look on her innocently painted face. Ms. Thompson, Sam and Zoe seemed transfixed by the doll in the chair. As Adrian was wondering why, the doll turned a little page. Were his eyes tricking him in this light?
Zoe - "I really want to know how he does that."
((Player instructions: See edit above. Have PCs react to and interact with the room/each other as they please.))

Colleen - "There's gotta be. Who wrote on the window if there isn't?"
Jake - "Ghostie-goos."
Colleen - "Let's be real here."
Jake shrugged, "At any rate, we won't find out if we don't keep going."
Colleen watched the others as they were transfixed at the sight of the doll. "Uh.. you guys okay?"

Adrian - "Just look."
At first Colleen simply saw a doll resting in a chair, but after a minute it turned another page.
Ms. Thompson had since walked over by the little girl doll and opened the victrola. There was a shiny record inside.

Colleen rolled her eyes.Colleen - "So what? It's just a creepy doll. Probably use batteries." Zoe picked up the little reading man to give Colleen a closer look.Zoe - "See here? Everything is wood. All the limbs can move because they have little pegs, but they just lie limp if I pick the doll up." One wooden hand held onto the book, but the arms and legs gently swayed with any small movement.Zoe - "Now look what happens when I set him back down." Again, nothing seemed to happen at first, but then the arm with the book carefully raised, was brought forward, and the other hand placed on the cover, steadying it.Zoe - "We're just trying to figure out how it moves."
Adrian - "Maybe there's a mechanism in the couch...? Okay, I really have no idea." Jake stayed by Colleen, but drifted towards Vincent at the mention of the record player.Jake - "Think it still works?"

Jake scoffed and raised his hands.Jake - "You're crazy if you think I'm touching anything in this ghost house. Be my guest." Gina - "Allow me. I used to play my grandmother's when she okayed it." Ms. Thompson wound the machine, gave the record a little nudge with her finger, and set the needle. A novelty song played, but the speed was slow and strange. Sam and Zoe laughed.Sam - "Why's it sound so funny?"
Gina - "It might need oiling. I guess that is to be expected."

Colleen watched the moving doll.Colleen - "Maybe it has magnets--" Jake cut her off abruptly,Jake - "Who cares how or if this junk works? We're in the middle of nowhere, in an abandoned house that's apparently not-so-abandoned, with no way of contacting anyone," He sounded a bit frustrated, "Can we please just get moving?" Colleen - "Jeez dude, lighten up.."

Colleen's words were halted by an abrupt silence. Without any warning the music ended, although the record hadn't stopped playing.
Record - "Hello? Hello? Is somebody there?"

Jake - "Have fun bringing spirits down on you, dude." Colleen elbowed him in the ribs.Colleen - "Shut up, dork. It could be someone from the bus." She turned to the record player, "Hey! Where are you?"
Sam - "Um, records don't work that way, do they?"
Gina - "No, they don't."

This discussion is interrupted as the record continued to speak,
Record - "Hey, can I get some help here? I'm trapped. I don't know where I am. Can somebody please find me?"

Record - "It's dark now, but when I was brought here I saw desks."
Gina - "Is there a school in the town?"
Record - "Yes, there is."
Adrian - "Then that's the place to go."
Sam - "Wait. We still don't know who invited us inside."
Zoe - "Well, we haven't checked upstairs yet..."
