Haha. Zombie bogans. Well, gentry, is this the end of your fantastic voyage?

To Alex's credit, at least, Ash was a lot like a dad. It didn't speak well of his virtues, to be sure. He carried his dufflebag with vigor, and went out to go kill some zombies. ((OOC: Yep, sure is!))

Ashley lead their small group down the streets all the way to Fairview, beyond which was barricaded off. The streets were dark, and empty of any life besides the faint glittering of rat eyes, and a few skittish cats in the darkness. They could swear they heard a dog barking in the distance somewhere. Almost like a normal city night. A normal city night that was dark and totally without the bustle of civilization. Long shadows fell across everything and made the night seem more sinister despite the lack of zombies. "I assume we will get the powder on the way back." He carried one of his dufflebags with him, and wielded a crowbar in one hand. "You stick close" She reminded the others, her hammer held high in case of attackers. So far, there were none. The crew had been efficient at getting rid of zombies in this area. "Dumbshit zombies ain't gonna make it fun for me. Ben, you guys kill all of them or what?"

Ben- "Oh, you bet. I just realised that we may have to worry about animals." Ben had brought along the torch-staff from earlier, with a fresh, unlit torch. Just in case. And given their goal of acquiring goods, he also had a folded-up sports bag. Plus his bokken, of course. Never leave home without it. Even if he really thought he wouldn't have to use it. After all, he was in the company of a good number of competent fighters, so should they encounter some straggling zombie, he'd probably have to fight them to get at it.

"You guys. If a lion attacks, poke it with a sharp stick." "That's pretty fuckin' funny, dude."
After that piece of sage advice ((OOC: more like Basil advice, amirite?)), Alex shut his mouth and followed Ashley. It was too damn quiet. The silence made him nervous, but maybe that was a good thing, because he shouldn't get too comfortable. Not outside, after dark, when a demon might be lurking nearby. But he had so many questions. So many things to say. Wow, stars ... whoa. Is that a meteor? No. Old satellite.Aren't there people up there in a space station? Did the zombie curse reach them? They must be scared. God, please protect the astronauts ... how long can they survive? He hoped they could live forever in a peaceful, self-sustaining space community. But that seemed unlikely.

There was no sound as they reached the barricade. It was eerie how the zombies rested at night, the same as people did, crouched in the darkness, hiding from god knows what. It made telling where they were much more difficult. The cars began, leading out into the streets, which were dark and created a trail of beetlebacks into the darkness. It was difficult to tell if there were zombies crouched behind, or around the cars. "They crouch down here, but they can wake up if we come too close. I've seen it." He remarks, holding his bag up high, and weaving through cars. A zombie came up right next to him. Ashley flailed his arm up in shock, and almost shouted, but instead kicks the creature down between two cars, and stabs it in the chest with his crowbar. "I got it!" She smashes its head with her hammer, and leans back. A thump in the dark. They had company..somewhere.

Ben refrained from the classic "what was that?" and just listened intently to any movements out in the dark. Surely no zombie would be stealthy enough to actually sneak up on them? Ben didn't really want to think of what it could be if it was something stealthy enough to sneak up on them.

Ben's listening and quietude was disrupted by Derek's loud voice. "Hey dumb fucks! Come out and play! ... Aw man, I'm gonna miss The Offspring. Zombies! Fuck you!"

"Nice effort, man. But next time be a little louder. There might be a couple monsters in Oregon that don't know we're here." Alex held his sledgehammer at the ready and took a few steps towards the mysterious thump.

A zombie lurched up from where it was crouching around where the thump was heard. Two zombies, stuck in a small space, smacking against the side of the car they were trapped near. They didn't cry out or make any real noise, besides their movement. Another thump somewhere else. An animal hit it running away. Ashley seemed to have regained his footing, and at least now the zombies were all up and looking at them. Their eyes shined in the darkness, if only slightly, from the flashlight beamed. Their faces were grotesque and terrible. He leapt towards the closest zombie, and attacked it with his crowbar. Patti put on her zombie-killing face and attacked the nearest zombie, a middleaged woman wearing a loosefitting dress. Down the street they had to travel along, they could see the almost-sleeping faces of the zombies they had woken, alert and quiet as animals. A cat crawls along with a rat on the hood of a stopped car.

Derek- "Zombie bashing time. Not to sound like a redneck, but Yee fuckin' Haw!" Derek didn't wait. As soon as he got over the wall of cars, he ran to the nearest group of zombies, reminding himself how to use that aluminum bat, of how to kill. He was about as noisy at work as Alex used to be when the ZP first started, his battle cry semi-verbal, something between the words "fuckin," "zombie," and "faggots," but all at once and hard to understand.
He seemed fit.

Beyond this wide street, clogged with cars, the way seems relatively clear, besides the hoards of zombies running stupidly into the sides of cars from beyond trying to reach the delicious surviving humans.

Awwww heeelll no. Alex was not going to be one-upped by some jackass who liked The Offspring. Actually, The Offspring were all right, for the nineties. He threw himself into the fray and started swinging double time. By some miracle of nature, he fought almost quietly. Almost, because Alex muttered a running kill tally. One, two, three, four and five with one swing! Yeeeeeah. Six, seven. In a particularly obnoxious move, Alex swung into Derek's kill zone and took out a few zombies. Not that it was a competition or anything. But he was totally winning. Derek- "WHAT TH-?!" Derek actually didn't seem to be paying attention to the game, was just in a blind killing range. When a living person got too close, he almost swung on him. Alex noticed a look in his face, all psycho... Reminded him of a scary white man that gave him a very creepy look when he was a kid, like... He didn't even see a human - just more trash that he desperately wanted to destroy.
But the look passed very quickly, replaced by a more reasonable annoyance at someone pulling a dangerous stunt in his kill zone. Derek- "Don't be a tard, dude. I almost crushed your shit."

Ashley never strayed too far away from Patti, especially as they reached the thick of the zombies on the other side. He seemed almost gleeful going to work on them, and was grateful for the absence of Alex's obnoxious friend. Very grateful. He leap off the cars and upon their new friends. In the midst of his slaying, he noticed that one of the women had a zombie baby...It wiggled pitifully in her arms, noiseless, and he froze and was unsure what to do. "...Patti..." Patti had less mercy than Ash seemed to have, especially for these creatures. She swung hard and solidly, and crushed the small creature's head. The way was clear. They could swear they heard the barking of dogs somewhere. Somewhere unseen in the gloom. The storefronts were oppressively dark, many had broken windows from raiders and other survivors. Cars, but not many, littered the streets, and hid the zombies huddled in the gloom.
