Derek- "HahaHA! It's like fucking Conan the Fucking Barbarian out here. THat's right, pusheads! Try and bite me! Try IT! FUCK YOU!" Derek was going to need a reprimand to get moving. While the path ahead was clear, he'd keep wasting time on zombies in the rear until he ran out or someone forced him to quit.

"Leighton, get over here! Pike! Get out of his swing range!" He barked at both of them. It would be particularly stupid if they died of being either swarmed by zombies, or if they ended up killing eachother. He knew the men had no love for eachother certainly.

Derek- "Oh, uh, sorry." Derek shook himself out of it, bashed them back, and hustled to catch up.

Ben- "Huh. I didn't think there would be this many zombies around. Maybe we should patrol the streets more? In daylight." Ben was no longer sure if this little adventure was such a good idea. But it was too late now, so all he could do was to keep watch for anything really dangerous.

"Sorry, Sir." Pike moved away from Leighton, as instructed. He wound up on the other side of Hanson. Derek was treating the excursion like some kind of devil-may-care primordial bloodbath. He could have broken Alex's skull with those wild swings. Or worse - his nose! If that happened, could one of the doctors set it straight? Probably not. Well, at least he'd look more like his father with a crooked nose. "Guys, I hear a lot of dogs. Are they barking at a ghost? Or ... maybe they're pissed at us. Those don't sound like pomeranians. Shit. I don't want to kill a dog. They probably had owners before all this happened."

"They're far off, come on, I'm sure that we'll meet up with more zombies before we get to them." He grumbles, and jogs down the dark street, flashlight beam flailing wildly into the darkness. Beyond the barricade, there were not as many zombies as they had thought there would be. They wake sleepily as the beam shines on them, and totter out into the light. Maybe they were blinded, or maybe they couldn't see to begin with. "Hmm, they didn't do a very good job cleaning these out did they?" He asks, hands on his side as he ponders the darkness. He switches hands to hold his crowbar in the other and jogs towards them. Patti swings for all that she's worth, knocking one over, a two in one. "Eat this!" She swings, hard into a buisnesswoman in torn stockings. Ashley admired her with subtly. She was quite a woman, after all. After a long walk down a street that still had a reasonable number of the undead in it, they come across another line of cars and a turn. For a moment, the group might think that it was a very plausible pack of wolves, but no, a light beam reveals it to be a small pack of large dogs. One, a large black dog shaped like a german shepherd, turns to face them when the beam is placed on them. The animal's fur is long enough to conceal its gender. It stares at them, fearless, but unsure what to do of yet. He takes a hesitant step forward, with rapt attention on them. Behind it, a pitbull, large, hairy mixed-breed, and pomeranian stare back at them, unsure.

Derek pulled up short and looked at Ashley expectantly. Derek- "I heard you're an animal dude. You got this? I mean, we should just yell and swing our shit around to scare 'em off, I'd think. What do you wanna do?"

"Don't shout yet." "Awwwww." The little pom's fur was tangled and matted. Alex reached into his bag, grabbed a handfull of goose and one twinkie (a mid-adventure snack!), and flung the food at them.

"Hmph, I think they'll get going if we put up a show, they're not afraid, but we can make them." He moves his crowbar up so that it can make a nice swishing noise, and takes another step forward. He's wearing his windbreaker now, and it makes him look even bigger. The german shepherd doesn't like Ashley's approach, and growls softly. He takes a step in front of the Pomeranian who is torn on approaching Alex. The small dog defers, and also growls at the group. And then the other two. Together they are all menacing. The shepherd stops growling long enough to notice the food, and takes a few steps forward. The other dogs stop growling and follow behind him. He lunges forward and eats the whole twinkie, and then growls at the others, but too late, the other dogs begin to scarf down the turkey. The pom bites the pitbull and devours a piece of meat. They're clearly hungry. Patti looked troubled, and puts a hand on her gun. "Stand back, don't approach them. Pike, put that away. If they come any closer then charge them and give them a show. They're dogs, not people."

Ben- "Would it help if I lit my torch?" Ben had heard at least one story about someone hitting an animal with a car, and then attempting to put the wounded animal out of its misery by hitting it with a blunt object, only to see it get up and flee into the woods. He did not think that hitting any of the dogs with a stick would work very well. But if he was lucky he could use his staff to fend one off, quite possibly by having it bite the staff instead of him.
But these dogs would have to be desperate to attack a group of humans, wouldn't they? Had they perhaps tasted zombie flesh? Could animals turn into ghouls? That would be a real problem.

"Better save that for the ghosts, Sensei. I think we'll be all right." With a casual pace, he gave the dogs room and continued walking down the street. They might attack a threat, but he didn't think pups killed for kicks and giggles. Like Ashley said, they weren't human. Alex sure wished that the pomeranian wasn't guarded by two big dogs, though. She'd make a nice baby sister for Tony and Pepper. He'd name her Cinnamon, shave off all that matted fur, and put a tiny studded collar around her neck. Cinnamon? No, wait, not Cinnamon. Elliot. He'd name her Elliot. Alex glanced back at the dogs ((who are hopefully not mauling somebody, eh?)). Goodbye, Elliot. Fight the good fight.

The dogs trotted away, nothing like full, but no longer interested in their human company. The pack moved as a single entity, and all the dogs were in tune with their apparent leader's movements, wandering about his sides just a little. The little Pomeranian was last to leave, and stared almost longingly at Alex. His eyes were dark and difficult to interpret, before following suit. Ashley exhaled slowly, he was glad that his crowbar did not need to come in handy for that encounter. He flashed the beam onwards, and they saw nothing, before moving on down the second crowded, car-covered street and continuing on. It had been hard to see that Patti had been shaken by the confrontation, but she seemed visibly relieved now, and replaced her hand on the sledgehammer as they continued onwards. She jumped on the car's roof with surprising agility, and walked on, leading the way.

The passage after this car pileup was quick, and lead to a kind of small, dark square which used to be a park. Geese honked with quiet sleepiness, and an alleycat jumped on some of the play equipment. Far away more dogs chased one another, making a clicking in the darkness. It was a little unnerving to see the world come alive even as it was dead.
The park was also not uninhabited.

Derek- "Good job dog whispering, Ashley. I'm not into animals but I wouldn't wanna have to kill one either. Depressing." Derek was quieter without zombies triggering his ... whatever that shit was.

"Yeah." Maybe he should give Derek a shot. If Ione liked him, he couldn't be all bad, right? "Derek, good arm, by the way." Now smile like you mean it! Derek- "Thanks, man. Shit, I haven't done sports since junior high, but I could be worse."
