A lot of 80s metal is hardly heavy by today's standards. For kitschy laughs and rockin' tunes, skim the back catalogues of Judas Priest, Dio, Iron Maiden, mm... Those are the main ones for me. They're all technically heavy metal, but the popular impression of what that genre is comes from far heavier stuff, ranging from Metallica on the easy end up to death metal stuff like Cannibal Corpse and what-have-you on the other. Oh, and the one I keep posting stuff from: The highlander soundtrack by Queen is a laff riot and good rock & roll.
I like the part in this track when Freddie is all like, "Watch this man fly! Bring on the girls!"

I think I've previously recommended Ghostland Observatory and a few others, but I'm trying to think of anything somewhat heavier that I've been listening to. Yeah, nothing groundbreaking or new. Mostly when I get crotchety these days I've been listening to Rage Against the Machine and Pantera. Sorry I can't help today.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.
@chris- I've been a Queen fan since way back ( well not that way back but you catch my drift..), They were the first band I really got into.EDIT: Be ready to be mad jealous but for reasons unknown, a couple years back our local gallery got to host a Queen exhibition, one of the few in Australia. It was pretty awesome, it even had some of his costumes including the one from the 'Break Free' video.
I found some nice stuff recently and thought I'd share whether ye hate or love them.
This one below is really nice but there's no youtube, so ya gotta spotify:

Sebastian- I have that whole album of Vampire Weekend. I do really love Arctic Monkeys too, they won me over with AM, I didn't like them that much beforehand except 'Cornerstone'.

The Arctic Monkeys are great.
I first discovered them after giving thumbs up on a Pandora station to some Fratelli's tracks.

High fives all round then. I don't mind Fratellis but not huge fan to be honest.

Heh. I liked all of the Arctic Monkeys stuff I had heard prior to AM. I've only heard one song from it so far, I should probably check out the rest.
While I'm going full on Lovecraftian anglophile, here's some hip hop.

Since there's a bit of Flight of Conchords love here, some favourites. I know the lyrics to the first song way too well. :B You guys all know New Zealand is a state of Australia, right? Especially when it comes to their actors. I also know the lyrics to this one, I always sing along, I can't help it. It's too damn catchy!

I wonder if this video was originally meant to feature some violence but it had to be edited out for the UK?
I <3 these lyrics. "I never wanted to kill, I am not naturally evil..."

My favourite Smith's lyrics is " If I seem a little strange, that's because I am." They do have special rules on violence in music videos there.
