No prob, you focus on the job at hand and pull the little boy to his feet. The creature
turns to face you and advances, hobbling on stumpy limbs. William screams.

I shield the boy and ready my pistol, steadying myself for when the beast got in range.Gerald - "Close your eyes, William."

William buried his face into your side as the creature advanced. It was several
inches taller than you, though its limbs were stumpy and shivelled. But the snout
was long and full of those gleaming teeth. It smelled like burning plastic; wisps
of smoke still rose from its crispy skin. ((Roll 2d10+Violence if you fire-- you can fire two times before it gets too close.
Roll once for each))

The first shot goes wild, embedded in the far wall. The second strikes the creature in the shoulder-- staggering it for a moment, before it advances once more...

Was it driven back far enough for us to run? It was a tough call, but there wasn't much time to make that decision.

It depended on which direction you went-- out the back door would be tricky,
but you could get back outside the front door and slam it behind you and pray it didn't know how to open doors.

I led William to the front door. Although I prayed it would lead us somewhere comforting to a child, memory of my own comforts sprung to mind. My apartment was small. There wasn't a wall to divide my bed from my kitchen, but that kitchen had an oven. Smells of whatever I had baked for bible study lulled me to sleep.

You stepped out into an overcast day, facing an empty street. A green car was idling
in the road, both doors hanging open, no one in the driver's seat.

I stopped and kept William close to me. Even if we took the car I wouldn't know where to go. I didn't want to take us deeper into this world. What we need is another "bath drain". We needed a connection to the outside.

That creature banged on the door so loud that William tripped over himself
with a little yelp. He caught your shirt before he fell.
There was the rest of the street before you, just as you had seen it before, except there were no other cars, even in the other driveways.
