I spoke in my most level voice and walked over to William. Gerald- "Hold still. Struggling will tighten the knots." I saw the terrors around us, but the sudden spike of adrenaline was to save the child. In tense situations everything comes into focus.

He nodded weakly, drooping his head to the floor. The poor animal's blood had gotten
so close to him, it seemed he'd had to worm away from it.
The ropes were messily tied, but strong enough to bind an exhausted child. Trying to
untie them though would take a while.

I thought it was worth it to take the time. Using something sharp to undo the ropes might be cause for alarm.Gerald - "'Do you know about Maniac Magee? He's got nothing on my knot skills."

The boy sniffled and looked up at you with teary eyes. Too exhausted to even
cry properly. He shook his head just barely.

Gerald - "That's fine. It's just a book I read when was twelve or so. That's pretty close to your age, right?" I started working the knots.

The boy was very limp, but at least he was pliant enough for you to move around.William- "I'm...Nine." His voice was barely audible.((Roll 2d10+Coolness to see how quickly you can work))

Damn, you're fumbling pretty hard. It's dark in here and the rope is slippery.
He's a pretty small boy though, maybe it'd be better just to carry him.

William wouldn't feel safe if he was bound. I needed to be patient.

You work as best you can, through there is a growing sense of danger. The body
on the back wall is especially distracting-- the blood had shot up so high it was
dripping down from the ceiling.

Why did I feel tense? Those bodies weren't coming back to life. I didn't look back, but I wanted to.

You hear feet descending down the stairs. They are heavy, so heavy they rattle
the house even more than that underground hum. William starts shuddering
in terror.

Dear Lord, shelter this child from the storm. I don't know what's coming, but don't let it take him.

You've mostly got the ropes free but you need to help him stand up, and he's
very weak. Something emerges from the stairwell-- a massive creature that
looks like a burned crocodile walking on two legs. Its jaws chatter, revealing
metal teeth that screech against each other. ((Roll 2d10+Will to keep it together and help William to his feet.))
