Seth- "Great idea Patti. Maybe we can start a rooftop garden."
Seth and Stevie went to the electronic components aisle with the flashlight. The store was very quiet and tiny on the inside, but jam-packed with supplies. Micah found the aisle of garden tools, and found a boxed and disassembled small chainsaw, as well as a variety of small sledge hammers, hammers, saws and the like. Patti found the bolt cutters, and moved to go back outside-- though the crew had gathered a small crowd of interested parties outside, who waited for them.

"Just take the sturdy ones that could double as a club. Nah, take whatever, light is important anyway." She held her duffel bag open so he could pile some stuff in. "Don't worry too much about the weight, we're gonna take a cart for the return trip." "Hey, Seth, I was thinking we could try to build a bridge to the building next door that we cleared. That way, in a pinch, if the lobby gets overrun, we have a route to escape through. Just a thought. It won't be easy, but it might be worth trying." Seth- "Good thought, maybe we can just lay some planks down like we did from the two corners of the roof."
She grabbed a pocket knife off a rack, tearing the packaging open and discarding it behind the counter. She found some garden hose, cut the string on it, then sawed off a couple of four foot sections. She tucked those into her bag as well.

She finally found the bolt-cutters and headed up front, only to find some fans had gathered. She tossed the duffel into the cart they had commandeered. "Ash, Abdul, we've got company. Shall we go out the back door, then circle around to lure them away so Micah and Alex can get out? We can come right back in, once we've got them congregating in the alley." "If anyone see's a toolbelt, I'd appreciate it if you could toss it in the cart. Thanks."

"Too bad we have no spare gasoline" He remarks at the packaged chainsaw, if only, if only. "Patti, I don't think I can kill these guys with flashlights, but it would help. Should I just take every one that I see when I find things? I feel like there's better use...we could bring some of the potting soil to get started." Some propane would really be nice too, but now he was worried they were going to start trying to break the glass. He checked around for Tyrone. Tyrone- "It's like tetris packin' this stuff in th' carts. I 'magine we get back to th' barricade we can leave th' carts outside until the zombies clear, then go git it later."
Ash finds a toolbelt hanging. There were only two and he's not sure if they need them both, he takes both and puts them in the cart. He also finds a box-cutter, a large multi-use knife, and a screwdriver...actually, he wanted all the screwdrivers. They were useful weapons AND useful tools. He didn't take many of the triple A batteries. Who used those anyways? "I can cover for anyone who needs cover." He shivers a little, this was a dangerous game, some of the zombies were fast and he had run out of breath in earlier combat. He was getting old. Dammit. Tyrone- "I'll jus' keep packin' if no one needs me... Maybe not."

At the back door, Patti paused for backup. Tyrone- "Arright."
"Should we jar the door or can someone wait back here to open when we come knocking? I hope to have most of those goonies on our tail when we come back, so we won't want to wait." She hefted her framing hammer, steadying herself for combat. Tyrone had replaced the weird improvised weapon he was lugging at the mall with a long, strong metal bar he picked up somewhere. It was a very useful tool.

Stevie sat on the floor, gesturing to components for Seth to toss into the "SAVE OUR PLANET" duffel bag they picked up near the front. Seth nodded to Patti's ideas and pulled his scarf down at last. Seth- "Yeah, there's an alley around the entire back, you could run them around that way, or feel free to head home if you got your packs loaded already."
Stevie- "Uh, um, end caps for wires. Those little cone things. We need more uh them."

Alex took the cart and followed Micah through the store. The cart rattled noisily, as expected, but it didn't squeak, and the wheels handled turns decently. While tailing Micah, he saw an aisle devoted to paint and quickly grabbed a single can of red spray paint. He intended to leave a message for Emiliano somewhere on the way home, provided they weren't constantly hounded by zombies. In the tool aisle, he threw a crowbar and two sledge hammers into the cart, then left the remaining space available for the others' necessary materials. If there's still Jones soda in the little drink cooler up front, Alex will put some bottles in the cart, too, because he loves candy soda.

Ash's arms are now free and he's ready to go, he looks back at the cart reluctantly, and then back at the other two. "We were hoping to push the cart back though... So I don't think we can go home right yet, Mr. Seth." He peeked out the window, wondering if the lights were on anywhere else. Maybe he could use the bicycle generator for a bit more cardio later. Make some lights. "I don't think we have any bags besides Patti, and we can't run too fast with it full." He put his hands in his pockets, fidgeting. Abdul- "We'll just have one or two push carts while the others fight. Shouldn't be too difficult."

Micah grabbed one of the "SAVE OUR PLANET" bags from the front too, loaded it some of the gardening supplies, and grabbed a nearby hatchet in the gardening section. He headed with Alex to the front and waited for the crowd to be distracted out front, the zombies looked hungrily at them. The crowd was quite diverse, it included a couple that looked like they may have been previous employees of the store. Another was a old homeless guy that looked like his face had been run over with a lawnmower. "So Alex, what do you actually want from the religious place? Nothing big right? Just a "Saving myself for Jesus" shirt and a couple of crosses, yeah?" He grinned. ( Sorry, I had my first energy drink in like two years, so kinda twitchy. Probably not going to find a machete in a small hardware store in Seattle, so I changed it. )

"Need more crucifixes," he said. "A Douay-Rheims Bible, uhm. Wine, if they have it. And we don't wear t-shirts, we wear purity rings." He held up his left hand. Sure enough, he wore a silver band on one finger - it wasn't actually a purity ring, but Alex had too much fun messing with Homeboy to explain that.

Once she had backup, Patti exited the backdoor and rounded to the south side of the building. When she knew Ash was at her side, she moved out into the parking lot until she could see the zombies in front of the store. One zombie had been at the far end of the alley and began shuffling towards them, slowly. "Hey, dead guys!! Fresh meat over here! Bring it on!!" She ran a circuit of the parking lot, trying to get the creatures excited for blood. "Come on, fuckers!!" In total, there were seven zombies on the street out front. Four at the door of the hardware store and three more that she had attracted from the other end of the block. And at least one more working its way through the alley. She charged the nearest one, a soccer mom with a women's cut Mariners jersey. She jump kicked it in the gut, knocking it to the ground then followed up with a hammer blow to the center of the forehead. "I'm a National League girl, sucker." The others had gotten closer, so she retreated towards the back of the parking lot. Tyrone felt the need to put a few more down to slow their advance before he joined the retreat, doing the eye socket jab to one and just breaking a leg on another. The zombies tripped all over the fallen like keystone cops. Tyrone- "I think you're gettin' the hang now."

Ash admired her bravery, but he worried the gun would fall out of his clothes if he was quite that acrobatic. Well, that just proves not everyo0ne gets old...well, young. He stuck close to Patti. He was feeling brave, and had his pipe close at hand. "HEY, Shithead!" A zombie shambled, and then gave itself a great big physical push close to him, and he had to fight the impulse to punch it. Instead he hit it across the face, twice, once backhanded. "Swallow this." The zombie failed to reply. Abdul- "I do not understand this need for quippery!"
He turned back to Patti. "You are?" The growing numbers of the undead had...become a little much, even for his enthusiasm, and he followed her back. Whatever courage had encouraged him to yell was now gone.

The alley zombie had reached the parking lot and had a friend with him. She ran past them, hitting the first one in the face as she sped past sending it sprawling. "If you aren't athletic enough to play the field, then you've got no business playing the game." The second zombie turned to follow her, turning its back on Ash in its enthusiasm for fresh brains. Or whatever it was that it wanted.

The man seemed to have a taste for the foolhardy because he gave it a good in the back of the knee to trip it. Hopefully this didn't mean it would fall on Patti. He followed her, in relatively hot pursuit, keeping an eye on the other zombies. Abdul stomped its head when it went down, coming out behind Ash. Abdul- "I have my misgivings about our strategy."

Seeing the alley was clear and the zombies from the front were well into the parking lot, she ran to the door and banged out a shave and a haircut. "Wanna buy some Girl Scout cookies?" Waiting for the door to open meant she couldn't run away if a zombie approached. She brushed her shirt aside so she could draw her pistol quickly if one of the creatures got too close. That reminded her that she wanted some less militaristic clothes. She ran through her mind any stores in the 'hood where she could find something that would fit that description. Not much came to mind and she decided to look more closely at the contents of the abandoned apartments.
