At the sound of footsteps, Alex threw caution to the wind and called out, "Micah!? MICAH!" He started charging up the stairs, but paused to check that Seth was following. Ed. - Just changed the direction he was going

Seth- "What the--"
Seth hesitated for just a second, before running after Alex and up the stairs. Alex saw the 6th floor door just closing, and pushed it open with an overly loud bang. Move back to the Cornish thread!

Back in the parking lot behind Cornish, Alex and Seth were greeted by Anna and the rest. Micah stirred! Nora helped him to his feet. Nora- "Wake up, buddy. It's time to go, mate!" They got ready to brave the car maze again. Just as they were about to leave... Anna- "Hey, Seth, who is that guy and should we be rescuing him too?"
Seth- "Um..." Inside Cornish, just past the glass in eerie half-light, stood this guy... Creepy Guy- "..."
Seth- "... Uh, he looks like he's comfortable where he is..." They took off. GM NOTE: STICK WITH YOUR BUDDY! Describe your adventures on the way back!

Alex felt damn near intoxicating jubilance as they stepped from the cast ... college and into fresh air. When Homeboy regained consciousness and started squirming, Alex knelt and let Nora help him up. Then, he pulled Micah into a brief but crushing hug. "I thought you died. Don't do that. Don't die, please." He broke away from Micah and clapped Seth on the back friendfully. "MVP, man, that's you. Most valuable playaaaa." Seth- "Oh yeah! I guess we all made it out alive. You can say that now. *finger guns* Back atcha!"
Satisfied with this (for some reason), Alex was ready to make the journey home with Chelsea. Apparently, being jubilant made him chatty, because he spent the trip home questioning her and talking about various unimportant things, including "that one time me and this random guy at summer camp arm wrestled each other, but we were so evenly matched, it lasted ten minutes, and I'm pretty sure he just gave in because it was starting to get awkward," - riveting stuff. Well, chatting was a good distraction, right? Right? Otherwise, poor Chelsea would be overwhelmed by the gruesome dead bodies lurching around the city and probably faint. Chelsea- "Huh, that's ... That's amazing you're so calm with... AIEEE! Oh god, they're all... So nasty! Um... What were you saying?"
Some of the questions to Chelsea included: "How old are you? I'll be twenty in August." Chelsea- "Already 20... I guess legal is off now, huh?"
"So, you're an artist? Cooool. What kind of arts do you, uh, major in?" Chelsea- "OH GOD HIS GUTS ARE ALL uh, wait, major? I don't know yet... I like painting and print-making and sculptu- AGH!!!"
"Hey, you feeling okay?" This question was delivered with more concern than the others. "We have two doctors. And if you need anything like medicine or special food, just say. Same goes for everybody." Chelsea- "Oh I'm fine... I think the implants have been buzzing though..."
He also had some sage advice. "Try to avoid the weird European guy named Basil. He makes moves on all the young and pretty people. I mean ALL of them. Hey! Watch it!" Alex swung at a rogue undead man with an aluminum cane he'd found on the street. The zombie collapsed at their feet. Chelsea- "EEEEEEE!"
"What was I saying? OH. Yeah. Basil ..." And so he hurried home, never too far from Micah.

Micah awoke to a dull ache and slung across the back of Alex like a sack of potatoes. Maybe, it had all been some nightmare in his unconscious state but the smell of stale blood told him different. Nora helped him to his own feet, only for him to be crushed in a bear hug from Alex. Micah blinked back tears from his eyes, he was fucking alive; alive and back with Alex and the others. He looked back at the school with a shiver, standing in the behind the glass was the Owl man. Micah almost ran into Nora in his panic to get away and momentarily hid behind Alex and Chelsea. He felt like he was going to faint again. He was more than relieved that Seth decided to leave him, Micah probably should have said something but it probably would have come out as scared babble, he didn't want anyone to think he'd gone mad in there. His hatchet had been lost in his flight, so he picked up a twisted bit of metal he found near a car. He didn't think he'd actually have the strength to use it at this point but he didn't feel comfortable without a weapon anymore. He stayed close to Nora, he probably needed her more than she needed him. He looked over to his buddy as they moved through the maze of cars, he wasn't going to try any parkour this time. Other people had seen the weird owl guy. He wasn't crazy after all, best be fucking sure though. He gave her a grin, which was pretty gruesome with his face bloody. "Hey, how long was I gone for? I saw some fuckin weird shit, met that guy you mentioned, the weird one... pale blue eyes? Purple blazer?" Nora- "Oh god no! That... That happened to you on the stairs?"
"It's amazing you guys survived in that place, it was bloody twisted. Some of us started out in a mall, all we got were zombies and a possessed bitch from hell but.. whatever was in there." Nora- "The weird thing is, I think he looks real familiar. Don't know where I saw that bloke before... Chilling."
"Anyway, what were you studying? Been here long? I was a sous chef on a cruise ship by the way not an exchange student." Nora- "Sculpture, really inspired by Survival Research Laboratories and Joel Peter Whitkin... A few years... Wow! That's pretty - Aw no! CHELSEA! STAY AWAY FROM THAT THING!"
Micah kept close to Alex and his buddy as they made their way home. His legs still felt shaky and he didn't really like his odds in this state. Luckily there wasn't much zombie traffic and they made it back with little resistance. Things indeed went smoothly, in part due to some kind of distraction at the north end of Terry, drawing zombies off.

Seth tried to forget the ghoul inside and collected his buddies for the trip back. Seth- "You all haven't been outside since it happened?"
Casey- "No, I guess not."
Ibi- "Just for a few minutes... Look at all these cars, god..." The youths began to take notice of the corpses, moving and still, in the near vicinity. They clearly had a growing sense of alarm. Seth- "This is gonna be scary but if you keep running, you'll be fine. They're slow and stupid, and just remember - They're not people anymore."
Casey- "Uh... Let's go before I freak."
Ibi- "Yes!"
Seth- "The fastest way is to climb over the cars. Can you do it? I'll help."
Ibi- "I think I'm too weak... I'll have to go between." Seth nodded and picked up his spear, which was leaning against a wall. He led the way out to the street.
At Denny he leapt up on a car, helping Casey up, and told Ibi they'd stay close and try to clear the way. Ibi picked out a path and started moving between cars. He occasionally had to stop to steel himself, when coming to close to a scene of carnage. Casey could amble over the cars, but in his weakness looked a bit clumsy.
Seth supported Casey with one arm, to keep him upright, and kept his spear ready in the other, looking out for danger to either of his charges. Casey- "Thank you, Seth."
Ibi- "This is horrible! حفظ الله لنا!"
Seth- "We're real close! Just get through and we're nearly there!"
Ibi- "Of course! I'll do my best." Seth held Casey's arm as they walked across roofs of cars. Ibi's chosen path needed to get him past a zombie, tangled in a seatbelt, but thrashing out its window with a partially eaten arm.
Seth steadied Casey to stand on his own for a moment, and hopped off the car to the sidewalk. He ran up to the zombie and speared its head through the window. The arm spasmed fluidly, then clattered off the window frame and disappeared into the derelict car.
Ibi came out of the car maze and helped Casey down, both taking extra care with hunger-weakened muscles. They looked at Seth gratefully and continued. Casey- "Seth... If we don't uh..."
Seth- Seth put a comforting arm on the young guy's back. "Everyone's gonna make it."
Indeed, many of the others were already making good time. The street was even more clear of zombies than expected, since they seemed distracted with something a few blocks north of the 403 building.
They came around the corner to see Anna and Peg putting the finishing touches on some zombies, while Alex and company began to move through the barrier into the alley.ALEX MICAH SETH and NPCs GO TO BACK ALLEY THREAD!

tab "Ooooh, but imagine how terrible this would be if they were really, really pretty instead of ugly!" tab As icky and gooey as these zombies had become, at least it made it easier to think of them as walking dead rather than recently deceased. Though the smell was quite nauseating. Good thing food was scarce now, so Ben hadn't had the opportunity to eat too much. If his stomach had been full, he might have had trouble keeping its contents down. tab A couple of zombies approached them from behind, and Ben decided that they might as well take them down instead of jogging in circles around them until the big group could catch up. He removed the plastic bag from the bokken, raised it above his head, and focused. And once again the bokken struck true, and smashed the zombie's skull before it could lay a bony finger on Ben. tab The reach of Sonya's club made it similarly easy for her to dispatch the other shambler, and then it was only a matter of waiting at the barricade until the zombies got close enough that it seemed prudent to climb up. Once up on the barricade, Ben turned to Sonya: tab "Maybe we should stick around some, and see how easy or difficult it is to kill zombies when standing on a barricade? I've been thinking about something like that, and it would be useful to know from experience."

Sonya- "Mm! OK!" ((OOC- There are so many details of this scenario that have been confused over time that it's silly to hope for internal consistency - I for example was assuming the barricade was the wall o' cars Seth had set up, but Kelly's understanding was that the cars were gone, replaced by the fencing Abdul's crew were putting up early on. I was thinking the fence was more of a disguise to the sturdier barricade behind, not a replacement... Anyhow, I'm just gonna say the barricade is some kinda thing humans can climb over while clumsy zombies suck, and Ben and Sonya can stand upon this edifice of unknown materials with the surety of the firmament itself.))
YEA VERILY, they stood astride the mighty barrier and made like this. It was a little difficult to hit them well without hyperextending one's reach, but not too bad. The ideal, Ben could see, would be weapons with greater reach than the bokken or Sonya's club.

(I had forgotten about the fence(s), and only remembered that there were cars on one end, and dumpsters on the other.) "As I suspected, spears would probably be better for this. Let's give them a rest, shall we? I'd like to see how they handle the bodies on the ground." Sonya- "Hm... Ugly. I wish I know more English words for this. I need them for a zombie."
Ben ceased to beat the brains out of zombies, and just stood up there and watched them. Would they trip and fall on the bodies on the ground? Would other zombies step over the dead and/or fallen, creating a small, confusing heap of moving and unmoving dead? Maybe such a heap would simply prevent more zombies from approaching the barricade, thereby creating a two-way barrier that would prevent them from killing the zombies that couldn't get close enough. "Uh... You know what? Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. Now we're going to end up with smelly corpses right outside our barricade. And we probably shouldn't burn them right next to the barricade, so we'd have to drag them away first. Ugh." Sonya- "We should leave them for a while so they get bored and go away. Then we come back and clean up... Or we get someone else to do! Haha!"

tab "Hideous. Grotesque. Those are some good words for zombies. Also disgusting, revolting. But those words aren't just about looks, they can be used about anything." tab Ben made suitable faces and gestures to go with the fancy words. He didn't really know what "grotesque" meant, but he was pretty sure it meant roughly the same as "ugly". Or... tab "... Monstrous! Would you be interested in a dictionary? I have one at home that I haven't used in ages." tab Ben refrained from once again bringing up how much better everything had been on the internet, in this case dictionaries with pages for every word, and lists of synonyms as well. No point in poking that open wound. They both knew well enough what they were missing out on.

Sonya- "Grotesque... It's hard to say. Must be good!" Ben and Sonya caught up to the big group of survivors as they were headed in. Sonya was curious about them and followed to the clinic, probably accompanied by Ben...
