Four dollars is extremely cheap - I was surprised, because in the northeast, tickets are ten to fifteen dollars. It must be a middle-of-nowhere Texas thing. There are some good parts about living here. Just not many.

Well that makes me feel better. I'm sure there are many benefits to living in the middle of nowhere Texas, according to horror movies it's where all the fun things happen!

@ Kristi - Timeless question: which version of Being Human is your favorite, the British or American series? ;D
Just finished The Hamiltons, and it was a good member of the 8 Films to Die For lineup, as well as an interesting vampire movie. The oldest brother was my favorite character. What a weirdo. I also appreciated that it was strong w/o relying on a gimmick or twist.

I quite like Being human so I'm going to add my two cents uninvited. British all the way, although they're a bit different, the British tends to be a bit more tongue in cheek. The US version got boring for me quite fast.
EDIT:@dk- That's what I remember as one of it's strengths. I also quite liked the ending, parts of it were unexpected.

I've never actually seen the U.S. version. I didn't even know it existed until I was halfway through the U.K. series. I just can't imagine the main trio any other way, so It may be hard for me to watch a different take. Since Indea says the remake is full on serious I'd prolly dislike it since I loved Being Human for having frequent terrific character humor.

Jara and I thought it was funny that in the US Being Human, the vampire dude looks like an adult version of Edward from the Twilight movie series.
But I did prefer the UK show.

Maybe this is lazy, but would anybody be willing to point out which recommendations on this board would be relevant to my interests judging by my personal recs?

Well, I'd recommend this to anyone but Carnivale is an amazing show. Since you seem to like British stuff like me: It isn't quite horror but has elements of it is, Misfits. It's very graphic though, but very funny and terrific. Fades has great elements to it but it only lasted a single season. My only other is, have you watched the fourth season of Being human (UK)? It's a new trio but they're pretty loveable.

@ Kristi - Since you like Emily Caroll's comics, have you tried her choose your own adventure game? It's called The Yawhg, and I've played several times with friends - it has a lot of replay value.
I'm sad 5eva today. The last Demon Knights comic is being released this week. It's not horror, but Demon Knights is the only DC comic series I've read with a really cool genderqueer main character, Sir Ystin. Sometimes, I feel like giving up on printed comics from big names like DC and Marvel. They keep cancelling well-reviewed, strong, and original stuff because the series don't bring in enough money. I'm crying on the inside!

∆§Indea§∆: I like stuff from anywhere as long as it's fun. U.K. seems to have more horror/supernatural stuff up my alley this past decade. I do enjoy Hannibal, and the U.K. horror stuff I like is *points to list*. Carnivale looks like something I should check out! Not sure about The Fades since I'm not a big fan of apocalyptic stuff, but I will keep in mind. Misfits is intriguing. Something definitely doesn't have to be all horror to be enjoyable for me. Like the South Korean film Private Eye was a crime mystery with a lot of horror elements and I thought it was super fun. I loved the fourth season of Being Human, too. At first I wondered how bringing in a whole new cast would work out, but was impressed that I loved them all almost right off the bat. Some questions in the last episode were answered sort of hastily and I would have liked for there to have been a time skip or something to make the last ghost feel less thrown into the mix last second, but yeah. Still loved it.

Has anyone seen Cronos by Del Toro? Is it any good?
I also rented ' The woman in black', it has Harry Potter in it. Could be iffy...

@ Indea - I've never seen Cronos, but I did rent Woman in Black once. Sadly, it was difficult for me to imagine Harry Potter as a mature married man with serious problems. Harry Potter ruined it! Ruined it!

I really liked the ghost story part of The Woman in Black, the visuals were lovely, and the cast was good all around. I %#@*ing hate jump scares, though. Expect a metric fricktonne of those.

I finally got around to watching it, big disappointment. As Kristie said there was a bucket load of jump scares but they were so so bleeding obvious!! Gah! Some of the visuals were cool such as the boy rising out of the mud and Harry Potter is kinda pretty. It was just like supernatural activity, now that was a huge freaking joke. The moral of the story is do your fricken paperwork. I was kinda annoyed he didn't finish, it was almost like it was purely a plot device to get him into that house. It weighed on my mind deeply, simply horrific. Now it's just sitting there undone. Best jump scare ever was the Japanese Dark water! The only movie to actually make me scream.
