As Babette rounded the corner, she barely dodged another flying knife. Eek!

When what to her wondering eyes should appear, the Queen of Space and the King of the Cutters! They hadn't noticed Babette, their backs turned as they engaged in a spirited game of Mumblety-peg.

                                                                     "Grr I'll best you this time, Cutter!"

Leo! Leo was alive! Babette wanted to kiss her angry face! Surely, Leo could help find Anselm!

They had to ditch Nick first, though.

Babette half hid behind the corner bookshelf, in case another dagger went flying.

Babette-
"Um. Helloooo? Babette here - remember me? It's confusing, I know. I'm in the body of a man named Anselm right now."

      
Babette-
"Heh."

      
Babette-
"In all seriousness, please help me!"

       Her knife went betwixt Cutter legs without hitting them.
        It was his turn.  He picked it out of the wood.

                    It went between her legs without hitting
                          them, and she drew it out again.

                                                                              "I don't know who you think you are,
                                                                              dude, but you want in this game, you
                                                                              gotta be made out of meat.  Are you?"

"Well. Yes. I am made of meat, among other substances. Please don't throw knives at me, though. I'm too busy for games."

Sadly, Babette wasn't sure if the labyrinth had turned Leo a bit strange, or if Leo naturally enjoyed Mumblety-peg.

      

Babette-
"I'm looking for Lord Greyburn. You must have some idea where he is!"

                                                    "Ha, the boss only talks to fellow royalty,
                                                and I don't see a crown on your head, small fry.
                                                             How attached are you to those feet?"

She flipped the knife around.

                                      "Huh, feel like I heard something pitiful.
                                             Nope, I got more important shit to deal with."

Babette held up a finger in the universal sign for "one moment, please!" and looked down at Anselm's feet. They were pretty nice, all things considered.


Babette-
"I'm quite attached to these."

      

Babette-
"So if I have a crown, he'll talk to me? Is that what it takes?"

    End over end in her hand, she wasn't even looking at it.

Slithering happened, and the ceiling glunked with
  water eerily and shadows curled across the ceiling.

Babette-
"What did he ... nevermind."


Leo's skills with the switchblade had improved in the labyrinth - maybe it was her kind of place. She did have a point, however. When Babette observed the wealthy in their natural habitat, they mostly shared one feature: an unwarranted sense of superiority.


      
Babette-
"The real queen here is me!"

Babette waved her own switchblade through the air in sad loops, like she was dancing with streamers. But no streamers.
      
Babette-
"How's that for inner superiority contrary to evidence? I can take you!"

The Space Queen snapped her fingers as she circled, knife pointed. Nick watched mutely, thinking or non-thinking unknowable thoughts.

Something slithered by Babette's legs, and whispered behind her.

"We need meat, deliciousssss fleshhh...

Babette-
"If I lose my fingers during this match, Donny and Doodles, you may eat them. I understand."

 
Babette-
"En garde, prêts, allez, mon ami!"

To her advantage, Babette had a stomach full of hipster blood and Ellen's punishing training. Unfortunately, Leo grew up on the mean streets beyond her father's manor, throwing punches and and slicing busters before bedtime every night.

Anyway, Babette didn't want to stab her former roomie.

 

Babette dropped her switchblade and charged straight ahead, lunging for Leo's crown. She was a vampire - not like a knife in the gut would hurt much.

    Leo stabbed Babette in the left lung!  It stung a bit, but the knife was
     trapped between her ribs, keeping Leo from attacking with it again.  Haha.

       
                  Snake(s)-
           "intooo the breeeach!"

     Donny kept trying to bite meat off Nick while Doodles kept trying
            to bite meat off Leo, leading them to a frustrating dance.

                                                   "Oh what we wouldn't give
                                                             for two bodiessss!"

                                        Space Queen-
                                       "Yahhh! Why did I even decide
                                           to get this exotic pet?!"
Snake(s)-
"Beatssss usss, tootsss!
Nom nom nom."

Babette-
"Ooooh that smarts!"

She twisted, using her ribs to pull the knife away from Leo's reach - thank goodness for the darling snakes! Babette YOINKED the blade from her chest and licked the blood off its surface, for both style and sustenance. Unfortunately, she nicked her tongue a bit.

 
Babette-
"Isth that all you got?"

She threw the knife far away and wrapped Leo in a clingy hug!

    
Babette-
"Say uncle! Say uncle! Relent! I'll never let go!"
