The time with the crowboys ended genially enough, but no one was swapping diggies.
Not that Eli had new diggies yet. The next stop on the itinerary was apparently a human
psychic, and Vitus didn't have a lot to say about him before the time they got to the man's
slumside home.
They walked into some low-rent apartments with a security door that was always getting
propped open. Apparently this informal welcome mat had been laid out often enough to
count for their purposes, because Eli's heat sight illuminated the creepy halls in silvery
grains. Vitus led him through that abyss into a hall with a barely present flickering
orange incandescent aura, then into another abyss of stairs. Eli's feet slipped gently
on the tiled surface, but were still sure and steady. Roaches crawled the walls at random.
At last, a knock at a door, a smell of single man
depression laundry puffing out into the hallway, and
He lit a cigarette on a stove and came back into the living room. The ancient building
had no sprinklers, he'd left the smoke detector gutted, and the walls were probably full
of asbestos anyway.
natural conclusion of some of his roommates' behavior...

Wiley's invite worked. Eli and Vitus followed him in. His place looked slightly better than:
Vitus-
"Wiley, Eli. Eli, Wiley."
Wiley-
"Don't wave that at me, V. I saw your jacket today.
It was wrapped around a white Godmas log."
Eli-
"Hm?"
Vitus-
"Wiley can see the future, in some useless sense. For
example this - who can say what it will mean, until
it comes to pass? But his visions always come true."
Wiley-
"Furry handed guy will sing it to
the world. There was a log here."
Eli-
"Uhh, I don't get it, but sounds interesting.
Always comes true, huh?"
Wiley-
"Always. Come in."
He lit a cigarette on a stove and came back into the living room. The ancient building
had no sprinklers, he'd left the smoke detector gutted, and the walls were probably full
of asbestos anyway.
Eli looked a little uncomfortable, but honestly, this was just the
Vitus-
"Being psychic like Wiley isn't great for your income."
Wiley-
"True. Iss kinda like just being low-key
schizophrenic. I'm on the dole."
natural conclusion of some of his roommates' behavior...
Eli-
"Guess it's not good for lottery numbers then?"
Wiley-
"That's right." He burned the cigarette down. "I feel like it would
be werse if it was useful information as such all, because if I failed
to act on, I'd feel quite foolish. Can hardly blame myself as is."
Vitus-
"That's a good way of looking at it. Pre-absolved."
Eli-
"So how did you come to meet our pal
Vitus here? Did he get his fortune read?"
Wiley-
"Met at the oc-cult head shrinker's office."
Vitus-
"My fault on more than one level. I'm
the reason she started the practice."
Eli-
"Whoa, what'd you do, dude? You didn't
traumatize all the like... occult... people, didja?"
Wiley-
"I was gen ta say, he had enough neuroses
to keep her in business for centuries."
Vitus-
"I'm just the first supernatural
creature she ever met, that's all."
Eli-
"Ah, well, that makes sense.
So did Wiley prophesize something for you?"
Vitus-
"I remember what it was about
but no longer remember the words."
Wiley-
"Never did hear how that one played out. Pers'nal?"
Vitus-
"It was."
Eli-
"Yeah, whatever you're comfortable with, my dude.
Otherwise I was gonna ask Wiley what his biggest
premonition was. Boy, I sound like a tawdry gossip mag."
Wiley-
"It's all in good fun. Ah, let's see..."
Wiley-
"I saw a crown spin like a dime in a ladybird swarm,
week before Slachstein's prince had his 'aneurysm'. Pretty
sure that means he was actually shot in the head."

Zhason was nowhere near Eli, but they could each hear that someone else was moving about on this floor - off down the hall somewhere. ((OK, Jason is chillin' in the lobby, Eli is at the opposite end of a longish hall in another room.)) Before Jason could get into his internetting, he noticed he had a text message from August - no words, just an attached picture of him posing with a big assault rifle. ((I'll get more specific with replies to internet stuff soon.))
