There's been some talk of doing a special Halloween RPG on um, Halloween.. (Go figure), I thought we could discuss that here and make some decisions. I love this idea, and have a few different ideas we could consider. I feel it's important for it to not actually be something in this current plot, just in case someone has plans or can't make it, we don't want them to feel left out or left behind. However, it could be a game that takes place in this universe.
I'd like to ask you guys...
* Are you interested? * Would you prefer to have a 'drop in' game experience, where who ever shows up at whatever time can start playing, or would you prefer a more hard and fast time schedule? (Ex. Everyone meets at 6PM PST or whatever we decided on) * Would you prefer something SUBPAR themed or something else?
I would make sure the game session would have an 'ending', but it could be continued if people loved it really hard. Otherwise, it could be considered a one shot deal.
One idea I had that I liked, was setting a game in a universe Christopher and I created once and I wrote a short story about. It's Silent Hill inspired, but not directly in that world. The players would all be high school students in a suburban neighborhood in the '80s. Without giving too much away-- it involves spooky cults, invisible people and Afterschool Special style 'don't do drugs or you'll get possessed by demons' style fun. (Along with a very bizarre 'otherworld' with creatures, of course.) It's a little more on the 'spooky' tip than outright gore drenched horror, but could be modified based on interests.
Let me know if you're interested in that, or would prefer something more zombie-tastic or something else entirely!

Oh quick note-- for Subpar fun, I thought we could set the Halloween game in a different city. Different cities have different themes, for example Tacoma has 'vampires' (non-Kingfisher styled!) and some other creatures we will likely not encounter in our game.

I am up for anything either way, drop in or designated should be fine. I have heaps of assignments so chances are I will be near a computer. I like the 80's idea, we can get our goonies/ frog brothers on . I'd say Subpar but I don't know any different lol. We could also go for a don't try to have premarital sex or a vampire will go after you and your girlfriend/ boyfriend alla Fright night.

80s... 80s forever! Oh, the joy of a cocaine addiction! But in high school... the Eurythmics, the Cure... truly the beginning of the end! YES YES YES! I think I would be more interested in anything with a long duration, but that is only because I'm going to be exceptionally free.
"I would make sure the game session would have an 'ending', but it could be continued if people loved it really hard. Otherwise, it could be considered a one shot deal."
This line explains so many of my dalliances, I dread not to think on it further.
I'm not so sure I'd be up for simultaneous zombie but maybe something cult oriented? Something along the lines of... dare I speak of campy vampire slayers? Again, I reiterate the huge weenie I am.

Ooh good ideas all. Hmmmm.... I'm wondering about doing the '80s high school idea, and people could choose their clique. Goths, geeks, stoners, rockers etc etc. We'd be aiming to spook you for sure, but we could try to mix in some campy flava, and certainly your characters could drive that force as well. Maybe starting out more campy and getting progressively more dark and creepy as it goes. Because THRILLS n CHILLS n stuff!

That is an amusing sentence out of context, but natch! Perhaps we'll get some preview stuff up so people can be prepared with their characters. I figure we release some info about our NPCs and people can decide who their friends are, etc.

AW YEAH! Christopher and I had a big discussion about this and have devised a BRILLIANT IDEA! BRILLIANT I SAY! '80s high school theme seems a go, and we came up with this solution for drop-in/multi-time zone play... (This is a work in progress that may change) We come up with a real time schedule of events -- school starts, lunch time, school gets out, school dance, party etc etc... We will be online and guiding these various events and our NPCs, player characters can choose to go to anything they want, and if they aren't there, they are assumed to be somewhere else. (In a different class, home sick, didn't go to the dance, etc etc.) I think we would start October 30th morning (PST) and go until Halloween night PST. That way everyone gets a bit of Halloween day RPG regardless of time zone. I'll post more as we decide more but here are a few details we're thinking... Game starts October 30th, 1987 on a Friday, at a suburban high school on the West coast USA. We'll release some NPC info before, and your character will be in one of their cliques. Cliques will be something like... Rockers/band nerds Art club/goths Nerds ("boys"-- AV club, D&D) Nerds ("girls"-- ponies, books) Jocks Stoners/skaters/outcasts Maybe more, maybe different, just some ideas for the moment. I think we will do this on this forum. OH BOY.

Looks like everything is working out for the best! Now I have an entire month to come up with some kind of character. Or would you want a concept as soon as possible to have time to prepare character-specific things?

Gillsing - Feel free to brainstorm for now-- we'll release more info about our NPCs and what have you, and you can plan more specifically. We'll give you guys a pretty long time to prepare, though if you'd like to shoot any ideas to us that'd be great. Since it's one shot we'll probably direct things more than we normally do, and do a lot of pre-scripting. So if your character has some gooey secret, the earlier we know, the sooner we can use it against you! Errr... for... something not evil. Nope. :B

I didn't realize this was gonna be in the middle of the week. There's no way I'd be able to keep up, unless it was truly a drop in, where I didn't need ANY of the setup.

I think we'll do some pre-amble of some sort, so everyone can be prepared with everything. It should really be drop in, just whatever part of the story you wanna participate in. For example, you could play the 'school day' or whatever part you'll be around for. It'll go for quite a while (I think Oct 30th morning PST to Oct 31st/Nov 1st middle o' the night.) So there should be chances for you to pop in I hope!

Hey I was thinking of making an 80's playlist to listen to for the Halloween RPG, anyone else? It would actually be a really good mood setting if perhaps and this might sound stupid but we co-ordinated songs at least for the dance/party?
