Team Theo settled into s grand decaying hospital in the Shadow of Harlan. A lounge on the top floor was the default hangout, but people picked out spaces to rest ranging to the floor below that, which had more hospital beds. The slick were able to espy which of their companions were progenitors or had eaten such, based on who was unpacking imported dirt.
In the top floor around a table, Clyde started a card game.
((Incidentally I will describe nothing of the game itself because I don't feel like making it up.)) Clyde- "Alright ladies and germs, who wants ta be dealt in?"

Allison- "You know I'm in, may get that big paycheck after all. Mama needs a new bowler! I mean, seriously, this one is gettin' kinda janky."

It was necessary to set up somewhere relatively unfrequented. A derelict building was a good place for Rat to disappear into, and his nervousness around so many strangers would give him plenty reasons to vanish.
Trevor took a patient's room that had a closable door, meeting his jumpy friend's approval. A vase sat on a small dresser with a bouquet of dried flowers, which Miss Bunny convinced Washy Wendy to keep. Wendy was more interested in collecting glass shards from the broken window, anyhow. Their drafty window looked out to an overgrown courtyard with a drained fountain and rotting benches. Ivy grew over anything it possibly could climb onto.
After claiming his space, Trevor ambled around the building to map out where the others were settling. What were people up to for the moment?

He got a notion of where everyone was going to sleep and noticed at least Meherit was a progenitor in the same sense as Theodore and Santi. And then he came across the game, just as it was beginning. Clyde, Theodore, Allison, Henrietta, Shale, Olga, and Consuela were in. Did he join?

Trevor - "Is anyone willing to refresh me on the rules? I haven't played cards in ages."

Clyde explained the rules. Subsequently, Clyde- "Here's some cards, kids." Allison- "Too rhymey, off to a bad start."
Theodore- "They say cards are the best way to get to know a stranger's true nature." Henrietta- "Thit's issumin' theah's inything true in nature."
Shale- "I shall be at a disadvantage because of my Glennish."
Olga- "I'll help ya out, Sholly!"
Consuela- "..."

Clyde- "Not a problem. We're bettin' for tabs, so you can practice up without losin' a pfennig. Sweet deal, huh?" Allison- "Really? Maybe I should fold. Can't buy a hat with tabs."
Theodore- "I've some experience with this game, but haven't played in a few decades. Perhaps we could all use the practice." Henrietta- "Speak for ya-silves."
Shale- "Hm... Are we placing to bet, now?"
Olga- "That's right. I'm in for six."
Consuela- "..."
People had tabs from old aluminum cans. Where did these come from? A roughly equal amount had been pushed toward each player as the cards were dealt.

Trevor - "Let's see..." Trevor bet four to try his luck.

Clyde- "Got some action right off the cuff, looks like another round of betting. Take it or leave it, whaddya say?" Allison- "Seriously. I bet... everything. Fuck tabs."
Theodore- "Aww, you really don't want to play?" Henrietta- "I'm out."
Shale- "Do I have to use all of these?"
Olga- "You got it. Wild! I'm out."
Consuela- "..."
Consuela folded.

Trevor - "I know someone that would love to take a free seat. That is if everyone's alright with a newcomer to the table..." Trevor folded in the meantime.

Clyde- "Yeah, everyone ignore Al's bet, just give her tabs to your ringer. Who'll it be, Trevor?" Allison- "Peace out, chump change."

Trevor - "If you excuse me for just a moment..."
Trevor blanked out in order to communicate with somebody...

The blank out was weirder than usual - his spirit senses opened up, allowing him to see the spirit world - which conformed so closely to the lines of this weird domain that it hardly looked different. Nonetheless, he could project his intentions at will...
