The moon turned the white caps into glowing silver, the waves an
uncanny deep blue in their transient hearts. The ocean beneath was an
infinite blackness waiting to take the unbreathing corpses into gentle repose.

Eli walked right into the water. Yow, cold! But nothing more than a strange sensation. He hadn't been swimming outside a heated pool since a bat boat ride. Yuck... This water was much nicer. He waded knee deep and turned to make sure his ducklings were following.
 
Hunter-
"Wow, what's it going to be like?"
Jess-
"guys are there, like, sharks?"
"If there is, we can punch it
in its stupid shark face! Haha!"

Eli-
"Learned through experience. Glad you don't
seem too nervous."

"Yeah, feels like it's got some rocks in it.
Wonder if jellyfish still sting?"
Hunter-
"And nobody can pee on it! Haha..."
Eli-
"Eugh..."
The shore was rather far away now, they were up to their waists.

The guys could only hear each other over the ocean's roar now
because of vampire senses. They would lose sight of each other
very easily. Jess could hardly make sense of the world.
Eli crossed his arms over his chest and flopped into the water
on his back, classic vamp style. SPLAT.
Hunter just dove in with knife-y forward strokes, getting maximum
speed until he was comfortably ahead of the rest. He turned to
face them.
Eli swam after him at a more moderate speed, letting himself
stay below the surface so he could try to spy weird things in the
briny depths. Come on treasure chest of gold coins...
Jess struggled to keep up with Hunter and put on a pathetic
approximation of a game face when he turned back.
Jess-
"Hiii.... Fun... heh..."
Hunter-
"What is that guy doing?"
He spun in place briefly to observe the Eli underwater.
"He's looking for doubloons."
Eli could only make out a bit with water stuffed in his ears, but got
the gist. He was just having a fuck-about but now it seemed like
the time for pranking. He dove low, trying to get behind Hunter
without him noticing immediately.
Hunter didn't, continuing his conversation with Jess.
Eli got into position, ready to strike. He dove high and grabbed
Hunter around the chest.
Hunter freaked out and thrashed in place, sending them
underwater. Eli only gripped him for a minute before setting him
free and bobbing back up to the surface.
Jess laughed mirthfully and merrifully.
Jess-
"Oh my gosh! You got dunked on. Hehehe..."
Hunter huffed.
Hunter-
"Ha! That's only amusing because it's so unlikely."
Eli-
"You sure you didn't just get pranked, prank boy?"
Hunter-
"I did, and perhaps it is worth points. And yet, you know it
cannot stand forever."
Eli-
"So an endless cycle of pranking for the rest of our un-lives?"
Hunter-
"So it would seem. You're going down, son."
Eli-
"You sure about that?"
He feinted like he was gonna grab for the dude again.
Hunter did karate chops in the air.
Hunter-
"See? Reflexes! There won't be a repeat, I assure you."
Eli-
"Those are land-based skills, don't count in maritime
environments. You're outclassed, Green."
Jess-
"Yes. Sorry to say, Hunter, he might be right."
Hunter-
"Pft. I'm the master of the air and of land. It's only a matter
of time before I conquer the sea as well."
Eli-
"Big talk for a guy that just got DUNKED ON!"
Splash attack.
Hunter-
"Augh!"
The situation devolved in a hurry... |

No point worrying about them. The wave carried Eli up! He went goofy for a minute from lack of practice, but when
he got sorted out, it was a sweet ride. The air rushing all
around him was at least sorta reminiscent of being alive. |

There were big differences. His weight didn't hold down the board
like it should, he was able to use his vampiric control of his center
of gravity to compensate. But he was flying, going for a ride...

of ditching to swim back out again or otherwise stay in the water,
