Trevor - "..."
Trevor - "Is that you, Clyde?"
Trevor found himself tensed, balancing his own sense of justice with the ghost's. ((EDIT: Originally intended narration added to reaction.))

A voice came from the shadows. Clyde- "In the flesh! Er, something like that. Here's a little pick-me-up for you lads. Dig in!"
Theodore- "Awww, how nice!"

It was a quick and relatively painless end, the present and late consciences agreed. Trevor had dissected animals killed for science that met their own ends in not much nicer ways. Though given the choice, avoiding sacrifices was favored... He'd express his preferences some time after quenching his thirst.

Trevor's headmate made things considerably worse. Too much of her disdain for humanity and bloodthirstiness complicated his own intention to stay clinical about it. Theodore- "Goodness! Hungry boy." They finished off the sad humans and Clyde nudged them into some nearby hidden water with a foot.

Trevor - "That would make the most sense for now."
Trevor - "You have helped us a great deal. Now that I'm more of fit mind I can be in contact with that friend I mentioned. He will help to keep us hidden."

Theodore- "I think perhaps we should find another place to stay, but first I do believe I need to meet with some friends. They may worry if they cannot find me." Santi- "What friends? I think... You mean the children? Wilhelm?" Theodore- "The children, yes. I don't want them to fret about us!"

Clyde- "Well, do as ya like. But you're safest with me. What's this friend ya speak of, Trevor? Do tell."

Trevor - "They are all stronger than to waste their lives away worrying about us. We will meet them again, but now it's too dangerous, I'm afraid."
Trevor - "This friend of mine is of the spirit realm- a rat not much bigger than the wild ones here. In spite of his nonthreatening looks, he was pivotal in saving our lives during an earlier escape from the enemy."
((EDIT: Response to Minchin added.))

Theodore- "How about I just do a quick stop by and let them know we'll be unavailable. I'll send them your well wishes!" Santi- "Trevor's right. Besides, I, uh, I spoke with Wilhelm during the day, and he's fine. They're fine." Theodore- "Ahh perhaps it's more me than them. I'd like to see their innocent little faces one last time before we leave." Santi- "...if you must."

Clyde- "Catch you on tha flip side, friend!" After Theo flapped away leaving Santi leaning against an invisible post, Clyde- "The spirit realm? I have a bit of an in there. Anybody I know..?"

Trevor discussed spirits with Clyde. Apparently, this old Crowboy developed shadow powers so deep they let him pass into the spirit world. He'd been meeting them in their own domain for decades. Trevor got the impression he had never, in all that time, met a hearth spirit. The geography of spirit realms was weird business.
Trevor also reached out with his magic to contact his pals. The easiest and best way to reach them was from afar, seance style. Rat confessed his magic did not help them at all during the raid. Demetri and pals were collectively very powerful, and his protections were focused on preventing scrying and spiritual assaults rather than trouble from the physical domain.
Meanwhile, Miss Bunny and Washy Wendy told him they were banished from the physical sphere for a fortnight, because their manifest bodies had been destroyed. Bunny was a bit sad about it, Wendy was just peevish and said Trev owed her big time. Nonetheless, he was confident his relationships with them were still solid for future doings.
During that time, Clyde chatted with Santi a bit before disappearing again. Santi ripped / tied / reconfigured his clothes to conceal horrifying wounds and quietly rested, sometimes lolling his head at the infinite black sky, wondering when Theo would return.
Finally, Theo was back! Clyde came out of the darkness with him. Theodore- "You were right..."
Theo was a right mess. He'd healed his chest wounds for the most part, but the front of his shirt was torn completely open, scorched on the edges and red with blood. The silhouette of his neck was disturbing, missing a good chunk of flesh and even some of the chin bone.

Trevor - "..."
Trevor - "Oh, Theodore... Who did this to you?"
Trevor offered his hand to rest it comfortingly on Theodore's shoulder. He'd take it back if the gesture was rejected.

Theodore accepted the gesture of comfort, and slumped on to Trevor's shoulder, crying smushy blood tears. Theodore- "Am I so unlikable?"
Clyde- "Eh, tough crowd out there, I guess. You boys got a way of lookin' for trouble and finding it easy enough."
