A very light rain fell on the man with the bun as he stepped out of Eli's ride. The two were feeling some kind of way and separate was the way to go. As Eli drove to The Rose, the rain turned the heat light from his car engine into a gentle veil over the nighted world.
((what's he thinkin about, does he make more calls / etc?))

He got to the neighborhood. You could find parking here within 100 feet of your destination - pretty cool like that. People in this neighborhood got indoors as quickly as possible, for whatever reason, meaning the sidewalks were relatively empty. Half the foot traffic was vagrants hauling their entire net worth on shopping carts or in backpacks.
As he walked toward the Rose, he got a call from Berthe.Berthe- *ring ring*

Berthe- "I don't think she's answering anyone's calls. Do you have another way to reach her?"

Berthe- "Demetri told me she has only spoken to him once a night, and no one else. Maybe your other guy would be the guy that should... be called."

Farley's phone went straight to messages. Eli was on the block. The closest business was a coffee shop / bubble tea place, "Magic Beans."

Berthe- "It sounds like I'm on the right track. Let me know if anything comes up, leave a message if I have no pockets."

Berthe- "Guess I came at a bad time. Good night."
The Beans had patrons. They looked normal enough, but could some be part-time witchers?

Barista- "What will it be?" Oh yeah, the place was on theme at least. But did it mean what he hoped?

Barista- "No prob, bob. Sure you don't want anything else? We have a lot of options, even though it's not our main thing." All around him are familiar faces. Worn out places, worn out faces. Er, rather, people kinda looked samey. Such was life in the big city.

Barista- "I don't know. Got an invite? A secret handshake? Safe word?" She worked the gizmos like a boss - adequately but would be better off telling someone else to do it.

Barista- "It's a funny way to go about it. I don't envy you; it's so much easier to get over the fear of rejection online than in person. Guess you just gotta go up to someone - aieee - and say Hi." She got the mix under the doohickey that seals the top over.{originally}Thanks for talking with me, though, makes me feel a little bit better about breaking the ice with someone else now." He waited till his drink was ready, then turned to face the crowd. . Eli - 'You can do this, Eli! You've faced burning mansions, murder crows, and Kallan sex gods... You can say hi to a maybe-witch! You're a big brave dog!' Looking at he crowd...He decided with...the bat t-shirt rando! After all, bats were very witchy, no? It had to be a sign...

Randeaux- "Uh... Hi!" ... And so it began. In his conversations throughout the evening, he had to decide whether to use his novice status to get info dumps out of people eager to educate, or to try to act more hip than he really was, to get hints about where the real magic was happening.
By midnight, he had a rough lay of The Rose. Nine out of ten people in the shops were just randos from the neighborhood or passing through, with no commitment to magic. Most of the regulars in Magic Beans just thought of the esoterica as decor.
That one in ten remaining was a mixed bag. They were the Aldeans and other occultists, chatting about magical workings & Occult People Problems. The thing is, most of those people were just the witchy version of Goddites - Aldea helped me get that promotion, The sign of Aldea helped drive out my cold a few days early. And the people talking about workings could easily be a bunch of imaginative children bragging on things that totally never happened.
One particularly frustrating case was a lady that sounded utterly real one minute, totally phony the next. In convincing passes, she was reminiscent of the real magicians he'd met in passing - Thierry, Inka, Angela. The phony would put him out completely, but unlike the rest she never rebuffed him, seemed willing to tell him secrets.
They stood talking in a goth fashion shop while she looked at bracelets. Rayray- "...that's why you don't summon Andromalius. He spoils your cheese."
