Babette chucked the pillow away."I can see the potential - can you become a warrior with six arms? Or make confusing doppelgangers? What about a crumbling ceiling, to frighten your enemies?" She wondered if illusions could be filmed - and if Ellen or Helen would agree to help the movie efforts. That question would have to wait."I like illusions. They provide the chance to win or escape a fight without causing terrible damage. They are ... so much kinder than bombs and fire."

Ellen lay still at Babette's side. Ellen- "Some of that is more within reach for you. The simplest is changing where your blade appears, so they won't be able to block it. You can make your own form seem to shift about as well. The most overwhelming illusions, like what I did with the movie set, can take a century or more to master...
True. Kindness is a luxury you're seldom afforded in this life. I would teach you the quickest and easiest illusions to use in a fight, and some fencing if you're up for it. I prefer longswords to rapiers. More useful against vampires."

"Long swords. Are they big and heavy?" She spread her hands until they were a torso-length apart."Like this, Ellen? Please teach me - any combat skills will do. I would prefer not to fight, but I am not naive. Sometimes, there are no peaceful solutions. Plus, I would rather die like a scorpion than a worm."

She pulled a longsword magically out of her hair and handed it to Babette. She could tell it was an illusion, but it was quite substantial. As she took it into her hands, she could feel the weight. Oh yes, a bit heavy. Ellen- "You'll need something more substantial than that to hurt someone." Size-wise something like

"This is incredible. It feels like the real thing." Babette first held the sword like a club, then rearranged her grip and stance into something more elegant.. "Are there any vampires who could survive decapitation? If ... Sophie had been stronger, would she still be alive?"

Ellen- "I'm afraid not. If your head comes away from your neck, it's over... As for the sword, if you want to make an illusion that feels real to touch, it needs to start with a physical object. I doubt you'll be able to do that trick soon. What do you suppose you're actually holding?"

The weight said nothing but sword, though if she peered deeply into the light, she could see that it was false... Ellen- "Ta-da." Before she quite managed to see through the illusion, Ellen did the reveal. It vibrated in her hand as a struck tuning fork, and then she was indeed holding a nearly weightless bobby pin.

((Cute post. Srry for the bumrush, but...)) Ellen- "That willingness is the first thing..." They practiced for a bit before Helen showed up with Darren and it became a chop-busting competition. Helen thought the place should be more decorated / homey, Babette thought Darren should be more something, and so on until the dawn. Sleep took them, which was far preferable to being taken by bookshelves...
