He only had a slightly undignified moment in the scramble to get in line behind them, and they didn't seem to pay it any notice. Then they were all walking up the rusty iron stairs in the dark, their lightened corpses making much less noise on them than a human's would. Ahead, Farley and Vitus conversed. Vitus- "So ... how popular was Cyril? Did Gracie know him well?"
Farley- "Naw, she's just feelin' what the boys are, and it's just one of those moments when it strikes 'em raw. Cyril was just another guy."
Vitus- "No one is just a guy. Really wish I could get Demetri to be less of a bastard about this."
Farley- "Really, both of you, the efforts to distance yerselves from Demetri-toss are more annoyin' than helpful."
Vitus- "You can understand why it's tempting though."
Farley- "True enough."
Vitus- "So other things. Did you have any theories about why the Circle is recruiting?"
Farley- "Well, the way things have gone as of last night, seems like it might be an escalation of hostilities with us. Do you know if shitlord was behind the scheme?"
Vitus- "Didn't seem like it, but then... He did have someone in mind - someone he wanted to turn. Maybe if he proposed that to Dragomir, that was the start of it."
They drew near the roof, but were not quite there yet.

When they did reach the roof, Eli found it would be impossible to get on top without using climbing powers. But watching Vitus do it first, he found it easy enough to just imitate the motion. Once they were able to stand, it was on a mist-slicked and steep surface, so they weren't able to relax completely. Nonetheless, vampiric gravity control kept his footing sure. They strolled up to some large disused chimneys, scaled them, then sat on the sides looking out.
Getting there had been a matter of following the motions of others. Now that he was able to rest, the view became a bit overwhelming. This was a very dangerous spot for a conversation, and Eli didn't yet know how to fly. Farley- "Baby vamps versus nukes? They'd've taken more care if we were doing something dangerous. As is, it's a bit of a mirror of our ways. To my thinkin', that makes it more likely it's about us."
Vitus- "What he means is that crowboys turn vampires without any rules or limitations. The Circle has traditionally only allowed new vampires on very rare occasions."
Farley- "Guess we'll know for certain if they keep it up. More to come?"
Vitus- "If that does happen, it's going to make us worse off. Having to help all the new people adjust is keeping our hands full every damn night."

Farley- "Ya been watchin' too many movies, kid, but that's funny."
Vitus- "Oh, there is a party, but you'll probably like it. Nothing to do with vampires. Last week Darren, Jack, and I ran into a charming fellow who invited us all to a "shindig." It's tomorrow night. Once I am past the threshold, I'll likely be able to invite you in. If not, we can get someone else to facilitate that easily enough."
{originally} "Hey, there's nothing wrong with getting a little creative. It helps make sense of a nonsensical situation, at least." Eli seemed less than pleased about going to another party, and he still hadn't forgotten about the strange three person date-but-not-really that he'd been invited to.
"Oh...Maybe. Er, who all is going?"

Vitus- "Juicy? The subject seems a bit dry for that." Farley- "Then we should moisten it. The Circle is turning more vampires to lubricate their ancien--"

Farley- "Likewise I'm sure. So... life for a new crowboy's a bit different, I'd think. How's it been for you?"
{originally} "Bit bizarre. A lot of running around, trying to get used to the whole powers thing and so on. Not really sure what I'll do when I've figured all of that out, maybe I'll try making friends with those Weston vamps or something." "How are things for crowboys? How's your progenitor...are they, uh, like the ones in the Circle?"

Farley- "Anthripo-whosus? You're a chip off the ol' whatsisname, alright."
Vitus- "Vito Pietrabianca, se vi piace." Farley- "What's this continental rubbish?"

Vitus- "Tech savvy no, but... How do I explain it? You've seen the progenitors being totally oblivious to the thoughts and feelings of others, right? Well, other times they are so uncanny at picking up on your thoughts that is seems like a supernatural power. Especially Greyburn. Best not to press your luck by actively scheming against them." Farley- "Guess that's our job, heh. Well, if you can try to keep your boys from killing any more of mine, I'll do my best ta return the favor."
Vitus- "Mm. Will do." Farley- "What about the kid's idea? Ask if any of the others've heard anything?"
Vitus- "Who is with Dragomir? Like at the mansion, not with Francesca."
{originally} "That's creepy. I'll have to keep that in mind..."
"Anyways. Dragomir got Ru. And Demetri got Cameron. Oh, and I guess there'd be Tristan, too, but he's not a part of the crew. Both Ru and Cameron would be pretty with it, in my opinion, although I don't know how forthright they'd be. Who should I call and, um, what should I ask them?"

Farley- "The whole famn damily."
Vitus- "Sarah's unpredictable, I would leave Tristan out even if you have his number. In the spirit of not doing anything too incriminating in case of discovery, just ask them what they know about their progenitors. Maybe like, as part of a general discussion about them." Farley- "Sure, just totally out of the blue, 'How about those ancient monster blokes, huh?' Not suspicious at all."

Vitus- "It's a crowboy thing. Seems like a few of Harlan's lineages have, say, a different flavor of shadows. We have some tricks, Marcheses and crowboys as well." Farley- "Ya don't have ta lay it all on the line like that. What's life without a little mystery?" Gracie- "Rooftop bowlin'! It's like everyboddy forgot et existed when they stopped running those Taco Rocker adverts. Remember? Jammy Ibañez screamin' 'WeeHOoo!' wid 'is face all painted tyger-like?"
That rang a bell. He might have seen it on a nostalgia show, but it was hard to remember details.

Farley- "No pride in sleuthsmanship."
Vitus- "Au contraire, Eli speaks of sleuthy interests quite often." Gracie- "Too much safety regglation I think, takes the fun out. Hey, we're onna roof now, ya wanna be bowled off? 'Sgood practice for flyin'."
