She wasn't going to dignify the barbarian comment with a response. No way! But as for Thierry's comment ..."Mine do." "Sir, you've been the most entertaining guest I've met. We should continue chasing flowers, though. What do you say, Ru? Another table?"

Ru- "...Very well. I enjoyed our conversation too...Babette, I think you'll be collecting all the flowers today. Where are we going next?" As they walked away, Ru could be heard quietly saying... "But remember his sculpted body, and his savage, soulful eyes. I thought you liked that kind of thing."

And she quietly responded..."Why would I fancy a man who wears dead wolves on his head? Honestly ... *sigh* ... I haven't impressed anybody tonight. No flowers for Babette. If only I knew martial arts. You'll share yours, won't you?"

Ru- "If I earn any. I don't think I've earned any points from anyone..."

Thierry- "Yeah, they were alright. What do you bring to a table, cardigan?"
Eli- "Uhh that's a fair question. Well, I'm the traditional artist of the group and..."
Eli- "Mmn, I'm probably the person with the least artsy pretensions?"
(ORIGINALLY...) Thierry- "The one and only."
Eli asked Thierry what's his name who's his daddy -- or how he knows everyone there and what he does.

Thierry- "OK, yeah, if I had to work with an artist, I'd wanna skip the pretensions. But even if things go like, however they're supposed to go, I'm not having to work with you. This game is the extent of our association. What do you bring to that, dude?" Eli- "Oh? Huh... Man, this game is confusing."
Eli- "Alright though, this convo is all we got? Well, I'm guessing you're not into someone blabbing about their life stories. But, are you also not a person who wants to do all the talking yourself...? Okay, I've always wondered, why do the metal bands always make their logos so hard to read?" (ORIGINALLY...) Thierry- "I own Rafflesia and handle some business enterprises for Inka Lepponen there... I'm something of an adopted son to her. The rest of these people, friends of family. I know perhaps Ellen and Helen the best. Who are you and what do you do?"Eli mentioned having gone to Rafflesia.

Thierry- "Good question, actually. I think it's too weed out losers. Because a loser is going to be trying to read it, or thinking it sucks and stuff. Cool guys would know better than to bother. Now, since you had to ask, but weren't a loser about it, that makes you halfway between cool and a loser. Where you go from here is what decides..."
Eli- "Ahh, I see. That makes sense. So it's sorta like a club pin or something. Like that badge, there. I didn't know they still did that kinda thing, that's cool."
Eli- "Hmm, well, only being a half-way loser could be worse, but I just hope I don't lose standing." Eli- "The 'fuck god' stuff, that's pretty popular now. But is that just hipsters biting metal styles? You guys have been on that tip for a lot longer. I think the new conception is pretty tongue-in-cheek, but it's more literal for some people. How about you?"
(ORIGINALLY...) Thierry- "Huh. Rafflesia doesn't seem like your style. I hate it when they do not enforce the dress code. Do they want us to end up like Macabra? I'd have Nick here bounce, but he doesn't know about style. He'd probably only let people in if he could rip an arm off at the door."
Eli asked Nick why he's not saying much.

Thierry- "Losing cool points, gonna be hard to not seem like a loser now... That shit was sounding a lot like pretensions to me."
Eli- "Err, I just meant--?"
Eli- "Eh, nevermind. Pictr discourse coming to bite me in the ass again."
Eli- "Funny you're in the same crew as those old religious dudes. That ever an issue?"
(ORIGINALLY...) Thierry- "Nick can't be trusted to talk without making a fool of himself tonight. Can you?!"
Nick- "Uh--"
Thierry- "He is my bodyguard, for now."
Eli sked something about magic, not sure why or how the hell he segue'd.

Thierry- "I ain't Aubrey's kid, and these other cats aren't that religious. What about you, dude? Are you a man of faith?"
Eli- "No, no... It was just kinda weird to run into more than one tonight. Oh, maybe that Marchese guy is just extra old school Litanian or something. So you are someone here's kid? I figured since you were by yourself you were--" He realized he'd forgotten the presence of the silent, creepy adult next to Thierry. But they didn't look anything alike... Eli- "...Damn it man, this shit is beyond my pay grade. I'll just assume everyone adopted someone else and forget it. What do you think about those Pictr demon summoning groups? They always say they'll post pictures but then they deactivate." (ORIGINALLY...) Thierry- "A magician never reveals his secrets,"
Thierry- "But suffice to say, it is magic. I summon the demons. Some stick around to hang out, because they recognize a kindred spirit in me. I'm a pretty dark dude." "Fair enough."
"You ever think spirits...cling to people? Not necessarily demons, just plain ol' spirits. Hypothetically." Not that he actually believed in all that...did he? Maybe. Eli didn't know, anymore. He was struggling to find a place for spirituality in his life.

Thierry- "Ehh, whatever. Pic-- eh, I uh, don't use Pictr but it doesn't surprise me that there would be a bunch of fakers and wanna-bes."
Eli- "It'd be cool if there really was something supernatural, but they always make it out like the demons are actually all nice sweethearts and stuff. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of them being demons?" Thierry- "What kind of weird kids go in for that? You can make deals with demons but they aren't exactly sweethearts."
Eli- "Haha right? I mean, that'd be spooky if that's why they deactivated... Oh they're always these cute goth girls, making cookies for Buer to help them pass their Art History test or whatever. I guess if it helps them believe in themselves..." Thierry- "Hmm... Girls, you say? Maybe I should log on for Picketer."
Eli- "Yeah! You should check it out, just look for those posts like 'reblog this sigil to be blessed by Furfur with good self esteem.' They'd prob- ably be stoked to find a boy their age that's into that stuff." Thierry- "Hm, I think I know what you're talking about, and it kinda sucks. Like, uh... maybe forty years ago, there was an occult craze. But it was at the same time as pop psychology blew up, so people all tried to act like spiritual stuff didn't need to have like, really real reality - like cool satans could just represent your superego or blah blah. Anyway, that's all crap. Demons are real, and you summon them when you want supernatural powers. That's how it works." (ORIGINALLY...) Thierry- "Now that is rather interesting. But I'll need to know more about what you're thinking of before I can say."
"Well, you know how they say sometimes a spirit will haunt a place that's dear to them? Maybe they're anchored to that place or a tiny remnant of them remains."
"So, let's say you have a guy, Bob. And Bob was big on biking or something. He rode down his favorite road every day on his bike. One day, Bob dies, but his spirit haunts that road. Well maybe some guy named Frank starts biking down that road. And Bob sees something in him - maybe it's his favorite hobby, maybe something about Frank reminds him of his life... Hell, maybe Frank just has something about him that attracts spirits. And so Bob just starts following him around, sometimes trying to influence Frank, appearing in his dreams, stuff like that."
"I mean, if a spirit can haunt a location, then why not a person? What if some people are carrying a spirit or even spirits and they don't even know it?"

Eli- "Wow, do you think... could someone summon a demon on accident? Like those stories about the spirit boards..."
Eli- "Nah, it's gotta be more work than that, right? Otherwise there'd be pictures everywhere."
Eli- "But summoning one for powers... that would make more sense. I never got why people would summon something that would just kill them or pull them into the mirror world or whatever."
Thierry- "I have pictures..." Thierry- "Yeah, you know, it's risky if you don't know what you're doing, but you can't really do it on accident either. Unless you stumbled on a specially prepared fetish of some kind - an item of power expressly designed to be used by the uninitiated."
Eli- "Oh wow, like Hellspawn! Whoa, if that was real..."
Eli- "Never buying any tchochkes from any kind of mysterious flea market." Thierry- "Glad to be enlightening." Eli- "Alright, I better ditch before I lose any last non-loser points I have. Peace!"
(ORIGINALLY...) Thierry- "Tssh... Spirits of the dead, so boring... Why are m-- Why are people always interested in the ghosts of the living? I assure you they are profoundly uninteresting. In fact, you are just as likely to be followed or haunted by a spirit that was never alive - some random entity from the less morbid realms. And what do they want? Any being boring enough to waste its time following humans is not intelligent enough to be worth considering." Thierry- "Er, unless that human is me and the spirits are demons. Because they know I'm cool and stuff."
"Maybe. Or perhaps they have some higher purpose that neither you nor I could hope to understand."
"But, anyways, I think I've learned quite enough from this table. Have a nice night, gents."
This seemed like a good time to exit. Eli wasn't sure he wanted to converse at length about spirits - a topic he had shallow knowledge of. Still, the bizarre conversation amused him. And at least it consumed enough time for him to acceptably leave the table.

A jovial August rolled up at this table."Hey y'all. Having a good one? I'm August Hayes, the director of Lychgate. How have my folks been treating ya?"

Thierry- "Sometimes OK, sometimes not. I can win them over with my ways, if this slab of stupid meat next to me doesn't mess things up. I am Theirry Chartrain and this is Nick 'The Cutter'."
"The Cutter"? What does that mean?
