((I particularly find rolls unnecessary when a moment is well role-played. No.)) Colqhoun- "oh." The red dot. Alex's back took a little blood spray and the snow behind Colqhoun took much worse as he bullet exited the back of his head. He was on the ground and unmoving in the blink of an eye, leaving Alex crouching in the snow, and Patti standing with her gun out.
(About this time, the guys are just getting out of the hole. Still all DeeK & Brett a bit longer.)

((For the purposes of the narrative, you must suffer some failures, my dear players. This monster is kind of special for DeeK & they need some quality monster time together. But rest assured, you will get your chance later. Meanwhile...)) Colqhoun- "This is going to hurt." He meant for himself. He was not looking forward to getting shot in the face repeatedly, but it was bound to happen, as he got to his feet in front of Patti. Colqhoun- "Give it up." It was surprising. The first thing she noticed as he started to speak was that there didn't seem to be a wound on his face. Regeneration? But as she shot him again and again, each bullet seemed to connect, to pass through, shake his head,
but less than a moment later he was still moving, still coming, without a sign of the injury. It was less like the regeneration they'd seen in vampires, and more like the Universe itself simply forgot he'd been lethally wounded.

Colqhoun smacked the pistol so hard it easily flew out of her grip, only injuring her hand if she tried to resist. Before she could react in any other way, he kicked her in the stomach, sending her flying end over end into the snow and ice at the side of the road. She was out. Colqhoun- "Praise the lord, that was so annoying!" Is Alex ready to do some more running? Continuing back the way they came will lead to going up hill. Going back toward the church he'll block. But if Alex stays on snow wherever he goes, he can be tracked. Right he can tell leads out to the waterfront, docks, that sort of thing. Left and forward go into generic Ballardness - ramshackle residences, slightly less beat up businesses, whatever.
In the church, Micah and Ashley heard muffled cracks of gunshots from outside. They had to run out the back door to get out there, which was annoying because that meant running the opposite of the way they wanted to go - but they had no choice.

The streets emptied for over a minute. Zombies wandered through, trying to remember if they'd just seen something tasty run by, and failing.
Then Micah and Ashley came out into the snow. Before they could notice where the newest tracks led, they noticed a fallen Patti, face down in the snow. Distracting!

Patti sat quietly considering her options. The snow created a soft, warm blanket over everything. Warm. Weird. Snow's not warm. No... her chest was warm. No oxygen. Why wasn't she breathing? It burned... so hot. She opened her mouth. Nothing. Sparkles, bursts, colors, blackness. She opened her throat. Nothing. Fire. She opened her lungs. Air. So cold, it burned. There was no escape from the fire, but the oxygen felt so good. She gasped it in deep, expanding her ch-
Sudden crushing pain in her ribs and breastbone. Stabbing pain too, just for good measure. The agony overwhelmed her and she stopped breathing again. Her head exploded and her limbs tingled.
She gasped again and the process repeated: sweet, crisp relief, then crushing, stabbing pain. She writhed inside her own body, though she was starting to doubt she was even conscious and the cold stillness in her limbs assured her that she wasn't really moving either.
Constriction, suffocation, sharp inhalation, relief, stabbing, crushing, lather, rinse, repeat...

As her breath came back to her, she realized it wasn't as bad as broken ribs - but something was sick and wrong. There was the stab.
Her belly was a bit swollen and painful from the trauma there - fortunately not bad enough to immobilize. And she had a pain on inhaling. When she was attacked, she must have inhaled something bad - maybe a little vomit? - and she was going to operate at reduced lung capacity until she had a proper chance to heal.
But the most important thing for now: She could move freely, just not with the endurance she'd have under optimal conditions.

Ashley- Ashley jogged to dashed towards the way the others had gone. He occasionally stepped into a slippery patch and skidded, but it seems in general he made his way fairly well.
He stopped for Patti, and checked her over briefly. "Patti? Greene, are you alright?" Ashley looked in the directions of the rest of the tracks. There may not be time to pause, but he made a motion that Micah should continue on. "Johnson, do you have a weapon? Save Alex." Ashley holds out his ax to Micah. The last "weapon" he had was the tiny knife. After inspecting her for a moment, he sighs. "...She's alive, I hope she doesn't have a concussion."

Patti rolled over to her hands and knees. As her thoughts coalesced and the pain began to isolate, she started thinking that maybe he kicked her hard enough to cause a small tear in her diaphragm. She forced herself to breath shallow, but not so fast that she might hyperventilate. That was Alex's game.
She looked up as the other two approached. She spoke, but weakly. She waved a hand at Ash."I'll be fine, but Alex needs all the help he can get. That thing is fast. And unbelievably strong. It took five shots to the head but it healed faster than I could pull the trigger. I don't know what you can do, but kill it, kill it now."

Micah went into a panic, first Davin and now Patti?"Oh fuck, Patti…um yeah I have my err table leg. If bullets won't kill it, what the fuck will? Shit! Shit shit…I don't know? Shit, it has Alex?"

Ashley- "No being tough, Patti, are you sure you're alright? Johnson, maybe fire, a stake or the like will work. We can try everything. I won't let it just eat the boy... Patti, Patti, Davin is hurt, badly. There's a piece of wood that went through his back. I don't know how to get him home but I don't want to leave him there either. He asked me to go kill the monster." Ashley studies Patti quietly, and she may have the sense that he's trying to confirm orders with her. He offers a hand to help her up, and turns the way the others left at, after looking at the direction of the tracks. "I left the rope there. We'll help haul up Davin when..this is done. I'll get a flare... We'll get him."
