DKender - HOW DID U FORMAT UR SHIT* SO FAST?!!!?>>>!!!?>WEE>!WE@?DF>D!We aren't close to done, for differing reasons. I had serious problems with the template, and learning OpenOffice well enough to recreate a template that worked took a few days of work. Yet apparently, according to Google, I'm the only dumbfuck on the entire internet who had any difficulty with this process. So do enlighten. Meanwhile, K is far from finished editing and I have some left to do myself. BLUH. Plus the last installment of Global Chaos is due tomorrow, so I'm beyond busy. *I meant shit in the value neutral sense, like Raekwon the Chef's Killer tape from that Wu-tang skit. Bad Scientists is tremendous.

I want copies of any that get printed and a copy of the final edit on any that ... what am I saying, I want them all. my upcoming flight to India will probably be long enough for me to read all of them.
Chris, I'm sorry I haven't read yours yet, I'm kind of a hot mess. I've let myself go completely and then the semester brought far more work than I was expecting for only 7 units.

Brett, are u saying people should either make theirs available for purchase thru Lulu or buy an extra copy that you will subsequently buy off of them?

@chris - Oh, gawsh, I'm sorry formatting has been such a bitch ;-; It was easy for me (took about a half hour) because I have Microsoft Office 2010. So the header/footer/chapter title page/etc were all intuitive because the template is designed for word.
Have you started working on uploading your cover stuff yet? If you have any problems wit that, I can try to help, though it seems like the word stuff is being the most problematic.

It's OK. I muddled through and I'm finally punching all my stuff into it and doing last edits. Only one page number I'd get rid of if I could, otherwise fine.
I am very worried that the gutters will be on the wrong sides. Lulu sends you a "print ready PDF" at the end of the process so you can try to make sure, but you also need to be able to interpret what you're seeing. Here's the issue:
They want the formatted text to begin with the "half title page" on the right hand side. But when you view in two page mode in acrobat, open office, whatever, that makes it look like all the pages are on the wrong sides - which means if they print like that, words will be disappearing into gutters.
Their template was only slightly better than mine in this respect: In preview mode, it slips in a blank page after their half title page, and if that page is printed, that means the rest of the book will have stuff on the wrong sides.
So when I get the "print ready pdf," I also need to know for sure that the pages are on the right sides, whether they preview in X order or not.
Sebastian - I'm avoiding ...acquiring trojan-laden stuffs at the moment, but fortunately I'm past the need for it at this point - I think.
DeeK - I'll let ya know if I need any help at that point. Thx for the offer! I probably won't upload stuff today tho.

Brett, are u saying people should either make theirs available for purchase thru Lulu or buy an extra copy that you will subsequently buy off of them? I have no idea what I'm saying. I'd go with "whatever the author is most comfortable with". If you make it available for purchase, can you later make it unavailable once the people you know have purchased it? Once you've done all this high-speed formatting, maybe it would be easier to save it as a PDF and email it to your friends? Of course I kind of want a hardcopy so I can enjoy that tactile book experience. But the eBook/PDF would be easier to read on my flight. I don't know.

That ghost does look like he's cheering people on... Meanwhile, what do people think of availing Brett of their books and in what form? I'm always down to get paid a few centavos for something, and was thinking of making my book available thru Lulu on the off chance I can use it to help raise funds for a thing. When you do this thing, Lulu give u the option to keep the book "private" and only order the free copy + any extras ur willing to pay for, or to make it publicly available thru lulu. If you do the latter, a brett or jara could purchase it straight from them. Stuff will probably be stupid expensive, but I'm just letting infos be known.

How much of a cut do you get on the subsequent purchases?

@conversation about Lulu - I chose the "private" option, since the book needs major editing still, even if the draft is done (blame NSF deadlines, blame them!), but I do plan to post it here. Maybe on my blog, too.

I got my shit in under the wire but K did not. It was close enough that we messaged customer support and hopefully they'll renew that discount for him. This was a huge pile of suck, but we did manage to have wraparound covers and shit. Hey Brett & Jara, ours were set to private as well. How do you think you'd really prefer these books? Digital or print? Any ideas on the best way to proceed? Others, I'll post the epilogue to my story on the thread sometime soon-ish. I got hardly any editing done on the rest, so hardly worth updating those parts.
