damn it why did I read the last comment? SO MUCH EMOTION NOW!! Has anyone seen the movie A.I? Its good, but don't watch it if you haven't seen it! It is the only film that has reduced the whole of my family to tears, through out most of the movie! damn it now I'm starting to remember sad things I've seen/watched... stupid brain.

@ dj - Ohhhh yes, that movie was pretty sad: its abandonment themes and the way androids were treated made for a sobering experience. But believe you me, if I had a little android child, I'd treat the fella so well. We'd see the world together! Maybe visit some science museums and hit the blackjack tables in Vegas.
On a related note, there are several movies I refuse to watch, just based on how cruddy they'd probably make me feel.

I saw AI long ago, I'm a raging Kubrick fan so I was disappointed in the pseudo 'happy'/meaningful-less-depressing ending at the very last added by Spielberg, but you could still get some of the Kubrick vibe earlier. I think it should have ended with the SPOILERSPOILER robot suicide. But, who doesn't like a Jude Law sex-bot? tab Saddest movie ever -the Elephant Man. When I was 3, I cried during Jaws 2 because the baby shark died. I apparently also cried all through "Purple Rain" when I was a baby.

A.I makes me so depressed too. I might be the only one but I get pretty sad in A Clockwork Orange, when Alex comes out of the hospital and gets beat up by the geriatrics, abandoned by his parents and then almost drowned by his colleagues. I know he is a psychopath but I can't help feeling bad for the chap.

Didn't Spielberg remove a bunch of Jude Law sexy scenes that Kubrick had planned? I seem to remember that he did.
And baby sharks are precious.
EDIT EDIT: Never seen the movie Clockwork Orange, but apparently I dress like Alex. Would you consider him to be a fashionable psychopath?
EDIT EDIT EDIT: I just googled him, and no, no he is not fashionable. I think the only thing we have in common is the hat.

Hahaha you guys are great. I used to wear a bowler for a year or so, and I got pretty tired of Clockwork Orange references too, but could be worse for sure.

there was this old cartoon movie thing, Flight of Dragons, and the wizards in that had these awesome hats. Except for the red wizard who had a crown. Which I want. As well as his dragon. @deekender. Just noticed what you put for your location DIVINE COMEDY REFRENCE! (I'm assuming yes?). Either way I love any nod towards Christian mythology stuff... when I'm not busy with my social life, because I totally have one of those...

@ dj - Oh, yes, I do remember reading something about Purgatorio in the Divine Comedy ... but I'm actually living in purgatory now! Honest! Well, some people call it Texas, but I beg to differ.

As soon as I'm able, I'm getting outta here and moving West. I have some friends in California, and we're going to start a nice little commune with goats and lighthouses and stuff. KILNARAK JOIN US!

A blogger I am particularly fond of recently wrote this statement, which I found amusing.
A statement like that makes me think Portland might be more flooded with hipsters than Oakland was. (I know some people associate hipsters with Berkeley, but those aren't real hipsters. The real ones moved to Oakland because Berkeley was being gentrified. Which is extra hip, because Berkeley was built gentrified and the process of a bunch of white hipsters moving to Oakland has caused areas of Oakland to become gentrified.)
