DeeK- ur teh hilarious, u kno? Kristi- Thanks ever so much for favoring us with your writing! You've been much more productive than anyone else in here lately. I can't wait to know what them veggies rap about, as long as it isn't Jesus. ACHTUNG!November is one month away, and you know what that means? NANOWRIMO!!! Can you write 1667 words per day, even if it's a bad day, even if the stuff that comes out is total bollocks? You can write a 50,000 word novel in one month! We are tentatively going to try to do this, and I am inclined to do it publicly, RIGHT HERE!So I challenge y'all and anyone you know who is too shy for the official site ( nanowrimo.org/) to post your stories here. The winner will get, um... something. Yeah. Like, month old pumpkin guts. AND my undying gratitude! It don't die! -

I can do this, but the first five thousand words will be donated to Velvet Science, because that post is lonely.

Not sure if rapping is going to happen after all. Not unlike how things changed up with "Ferreting" (there were originally going to be some sort of gargoyles involved in that story) it seems like the plot is moving far away from that angle and taking a more scifi horror turn. However I'll do my best to continue with the brassicaceae puns whenever I can. :-b
If I write something with a tangible plot it's generally going to be a short story. If I write that much it will be mostly be about inanimate object personification and strange adventures to strange lands made of... things. I've also wanted to try my hand at autobiographical shorts as a series. If it was written here would it necessarily have to be horror?
Anyway, that's farther off than All Hallow's Eve. I wasn't going to mention it for a while with the moving, but since it seems like we're throwing out plans I was hoping you guys haven't forgotten about the Halloween RPG? I've thought about inquiring to join your current RPG, but I really don't like apocalypse genres.

Erm.... It's quite possible the way the last Halloween game went contributed to Kelly's first grand mal seizure, so we ain't doing that again. Sorry. Also sorry you aren't interested in the regular game. When I can, I've been trying to set things up so new people can easily play. Not quite ready yet & now I got this whole new apartment to get in order, but I hope to get back to it sometime soon. As to Nanowrimo, I think word count is more important than sense or structure or anything. So you guys do anything you like, any genre, and change paths any time you like. The resultant mess will be horrific enough to qualify for the place.

Yeah, nothing's worth messing that badly with one's health. I hope he's doing better now days.
I'd like to try my hand at a story but I can never come up with a decent idea for plot, ergh. If If I did the marathon thingy I'd probably only do a mini one 500 instead of 1000 words a day. Any tips for coming up with decent and original ideas, well at least original ways of telling them?

The seizure medicine seems to work. He had a few odd moments, but nothing full on seizure-ish since starting the stuff in, like, March? Anyhow, Nanowrimo isn't about doing something decent. It's about accomplishing something you wouldn't think yourself capable of, and busting out of the limitations of writer's block with reckless action. Or something like that. nanowrimo.org/en/aboutSo... Hey, I have an idea! Find a book about creative writing - one with "exercises" and idea-oriented stuff in it. Then work your way through the whole book, doing all of the exercises in turn. Feel free to change style and substance willy nilly. Or as I like to say these days, wilson nilson.

∆§Indea§∆: What specifically do you have trouble with when it comes to plots? @christopher: I don't want to push anything here, but maybe a Halloween RPG could stretch out over the fall or longer? There is this board that says "write like it's Halloween everyday"... I probably shouldn't have asked that.

I might give the NaNoWriMo a try some year, but no way I could manage while I'm still in school. I'm not that good of a multitasker.

Kristi- What board sez that? Heh. You are free to ask, but it will definitely not happen. Kelly & I will RP with each other on Halloween, as is our tradition, but we will not involve other folks. It's too much wranglin' and too many problems.
Brett- NP, d00d. You seem quite busy.

Kristi is prescribed skeletons- Just coming up with satisfyingly original ideas that could be sustained, I'll probably take Chris's advice, I like to give it a shot sometime.

∆§Indea§∆: That's one of the reasons short stories are my bias. Plots are my weak point in writing, but I can handle plots when they're in a short or episodic format. I think a novel-length plot is hard for a lot of people to maintain. I notice a lot of long running series (such as comics) lose themselves along the way. Other times when people team up to write it gets less stale or weird because somebody else is there to pick up the slack. That's why I'm teaming up with my Mama for a bigger fantasy project in the works. :-D @christopher: That's fine. I'll go dancing instead. There's a blues band I like that usually plays on Halloween. :-)

Kristi- tremendous! I can imagine spooky blues. Indea- I think a long term plot can be as simple as a strong hook (Jack is turned into a vampire at the outset of a fundamentally simple conflict that hinges on Theo's revenge) plus a mess of complicating factors (large cast of characters alone can do the trick, see Game of Thrones and whatnot). Since almost every plot has been done before, you can shamelessly steal someone else's hook, and by doing it with your own characters and universe and direction, change it completely. Example: Stealing the Kingfisher's plot hook, but changing particulars. "Mack" was a sheisty kid and good at kung fu and stuff. As an adult, he's cleaned up his act, but an old boss recruits him - let's say, abducts him and turns him into a cyborg super-soldier. Maybe La Femme Nikita styles. Anyhoo, then the conflict begins, and because he's got a grudge for the way he was recruited, his loyalties are low. "Reo" is the leader of the enemy faction, and tempts him to betrayal. Complicating factors: New but deep friendships within his adopted cyborg ninja family, romantic interest in one of Reo's sexy ninja dudes, an intrepid reporter is about to uncover the cyborg ninja conspiracy, Mack's sister is dying of cancer... If you use the first idea (book full of exercises), maybe try this book: www.amazon.com/What-Writing-Exercises-Fiction-Writers/dp/0062720066 Kelly used that before to good effect.
