A sprawling expanse of lawn with a single swimming-pool, this was once a mighty symbol of someone's wealth. Since the previous owner's vacancy, the swimming pool has become a shallow pond filled with rainwater and the grass has grown wild and tangled with weeds. The "backyard" is impressively large.
Two goats frolic in the grass along with a collection of chickens and some ducks. The yard is fenced off with a twelve foot tall fence which is spiked in the front portion, facing the street, and has been reinforced since with barbed and chicken wire to keep out unwanted guests. The portions facing the neighbor's house have been similarly reinforced though they are not made of iron spines.
Motion-sensing spotlights are set up in the yard, and outside of it for added protection, and several small look-outs have been made, masked by a few tall trees standing within the yard.

Wolf stepped out the back door, squinting at the early morning light. He was immediately assaulted by a goat that tried to chew at the edge of his wool jacket. He pushed it away forcefully (is there any other way to move a goat?).[/i] "Got offa me, ya cannibal." The goat complied begrudgingly and decided to chase a duck to entertain itself.
Wolf hadn't been out in a few days and was feeling antsy. He wasn't excited about killing zombies, but he needed to get out. He worked his way out through the maze of gates, to the property next door.[/i] Attachments:

After securing his bike and the garage that held it, Wolf came back in the side gate into the barnyard. The goats sensed something was awry and mobbed him immediately.[/i] "Hold yer horses, ya dumb-shittin', alien-eyed motherfuckers!" He reached into a bundle and produced a single apple. He waved it in their faces for a second, then tossed it across the yard. The goats pursued it like it was the last apple on earth.
Wolf took that opportunity to set the bundles on top of a thick hedge, side by side. He took the first one and shook it out onto the ground, producing about seven pounds of subprime, green apples. After the goats got done fighting over the first apple, they spotted the new bounty and ran over to scarf it down.
He gently lifted the second bundle, cradled it to his chest and headed up the curving staircase to the house.[/i]

Sister Blaze wandered outside to enjoy the sunlight, within the shadow of the mansion. She looked about suspiciously before setting up her folding chair and folding her hands across her lap. The sun was going down. She pulled out a book and began to read.

This place is empty again.
A spotlight illuminates the path before the others. The side door to the house leads out here, and some of the front is visible through the reinforced fence.

Wolf moved quickly down the curving staircase and towards the side of the house. His boots made less noise in the soft soil and moss covered flagstones.
He switched his knife to his off-hand and drew his Luger. He paused a few feet before the front corner of the house and waited for the others to catch up.[/i] "Let me take the lead. This thing looks big, like it's-gonna-take-bullets big. If those don't even slow it down, I'd recommend running. If they do slow it down, then it'll be time for an old-fashioned gang beat down. You ready?"

Anya followed Wolf's lead treading as carefully as she could behind him. She'd never noticed so many twigs on the lawn before. She felt adrenaline kick in making it hard to stand still. She rocked slightly on the balls of her feet. They could all die tonight and many others if they didn't bring the beast down. Somebody could lose their mother or brother... or sister.
She gave Wolf a wavering thumbs up and then looked to Bregg to see if he had anything to add.

He picked up a baseball bat, now that he doesn't have an ax. The thing in front of the house is hidden from view. Mostly...It turns slowly towards the sound, demonstrating its awareness of its surroundings. Wolf sees a strange, dripping flat face, and the stench of rot and decay. This...It was hard to tell what it was, the lighting wasn't helping them much, but from the way it moved, a sickening feeling in his stomach told him it wasn't a dog or a bear. That head just wasn't right.

The smell pretty much sealed the deal. This thing was not of the natural world, not a bear, not a dog, not a wretched soul hidden under a pile of mouldy blankets.
When he saw the face, he recoiled momentarily. Remembering the pistol in his hand, he raised it quickly, but paused long enough to get a half decent aim.
He squeezed off his first shot, missing, then took a few steps forward, hoping to land better shots with the rest of the magazine. His second shot didn't happen. He was so focused on his aim that he hadn't seen or heard the shell casing that was lodged in the slide.[/i] "FUCK!" One of the benefits of his trench knife was that the 'brass knuckle' styled handle would stay in place if he opened his hand. Still, it reduced his dexterity and he fumbled with the slide for a few painfully long moments.[/i] "FUCK!"

Hells bells. The thing was huge and definitely a deadie. Freaking brilliant, another new death machine. At least it looked about as bright as zombies, there hadn't been anything with an IQ above 50 yet. Anya didn't want to think about that kind of evil. She stayed hidden behind a large bush but she doubted it'd last long. Wolf had just thrown their cover and pissed it off..."Yeah, think we might need to just go in full force... hopefully we'll outnumber this bitch."

The bullet hit the big thing full force. It turned, slowly, as if on an axis, and then sprung forward and into the metal gate. It was still between them, but who knows how long. A piece of it slid off, and they heard cloth tearing beyond that, terribly. It had been wearing..something...had it been a human? It was so difficult to tell which parts had fallen off, and what was simply a matter of horrible contortion. It was not fast, but it was strong. It began to climb the gate. Slowly. It was tall enough to reach, and its terrible, flat, raw meat face stared at them without eyes. The hands, from what they could see, remained human-like, but the manner of movement was altogether somewhat quadrupedal and straight-legged.Breg stepped in next to Anya, seeing as he didn't have a weapon that was able to hit anything from a distance, and shooting it could very well get him shot by Wolf instead of actually hitting the thing."Either shoot it again, or we need to rush in and cut it off of the fence."

"FUCK!" Wolf tossed the pistol into the bushes nearby and charged the fence. He took an untrained flying leap kick at the thing in hopes of knocking it back down. It only succeeded in stopping its progress for a second and a half.
He started jabbing his knife in between the links of the fence, repeatedly, attempting to target the paw/claw/hands as much as possible.[/i]

Anya rushed forward and waited for a moment where she may be needed. Wolf seemed to think himself a freaking super-hero, what was that about? She just hoped he wouldn't mess up, they needed him alive. She had a horrible feeling that the knife was the equivalent of a pinprick to the beast.

The creature seemed unphased by the stabbing wound, though it lost a few apparent fingers, and continued to climb over, putting a hand on the top of the fence. He simply couldn't stab it efficiently, though the blows at its rapidly moving fingers were effective enough. It made a grunting wheeze sound. Groaning? Trapped air? It smelled terrible from so close, overpowering and noxious. It placed its hind legs into the fence as it climbed, the toes intertwining in the fence in a strangely human way.Breg looked sidelong at Anya, and rushed forward as well, swinging at the fence more than the current inhabitant. The creature slipped down the fence, if only a little, and then appears to focus on them again, blindly. It scratches at the fence, towards them, through and onwards.

"If it tries to come over the top, fucking bash it!" Wolf continued to hack away at any digit that came far enough through the fence. He was beginning to wish he had a machete.[/i]
