The underground parking garage has been mostly deserted, save for some cars of trapped shoppers and employees. The gate arm has been lifted and all those who wanted to escape car-wise have done so. (As much as is possible with the blocked off streets.) This has also left a wide open entrance. This place is oily, dark and cavernous. From here you can exit to the street, run around the building to the plaza, or go to the stairwell.

Ben lead the way down the stairs, avoiding people running the other direction like he was playing Frogger. All headed to the garage paused to let Eric, Jackson and Anna off at the first floor. Through the door they saw Tyrone, and a couple slightly more unwilling combatants fighting what seemed to be normal looking, but violent people. Tyrone used a thick piece of metal siding to gouge a woman in the face. Two Asian people looked familiar to Ben, a man and a woman that used a hammer and a short handled shovel respectively. The garage-bound continued down the next flight, along with a few panicked citizens that escaped that floor along with them. The garage was still quite warm, though now more empty. There were strange echoing sounds of alarm and chaos that reverberated through the concrete enclosure. Ben remembered parking quite near the entrance, so he hadn't far to go. The panicked citizens ran in opposite directions, their footfalls quite loud and echoing behind them. Ben got to his car, and started digging. It took a moment, but everyone began to notice footsteps of a more unsure nature, drawing closer. Patti walked around a car to try to hear them better, and saw a problem-- The garage's gate arm lay broken on the ground, run over several times. The garage was open to the outside. There was movement in the spotty lighting behind them, further inside the garage. From outside, poorly lit figures moved jerkily towards them.

Ben stood by the open trunk and hurriedly put on his tare, the flaps that protected his groin and upper thighs, and the do, a thick piece of armour covering his abdomen. Next up was the men helmet and shoulder pads, and finally the sturdy kote gloves, protecting his hands and wrists. Then he had to choose: The hard bokken or the flexible bamboo shinai? Might as well go with the hardwood. Make it or break it.

"Ben, we've got company, and plenty of it. We need to get back to inside and quick!" She spun around and was momentarily taken aback. Ben had transformed himself into some sort of samurai. Alright, maybe this kid had a chance. She slapped his arm to make sure she had his attention and then ran back towards the stairwell. Now if only there was a way to block the stairs from entry behind them.

Dr. Victor watched from the stairwell, catching glimpses of the outcast and the woman. He impatiently tapped his foot, the flashlight resting heavily against his shoulder like a lumberjack's axe. The eye-rolling subsided for a moment once he saw the one called Ben's armor, and he gave the most significant sign of approval at his disposal. Dr. Victor nodded. "Well, it took you long enough. Didn't I say Mary wanted everyone outside? Looks like she's planning on some sort of mass assault. We need to get in a better position. I need some place suitable and clean... we also need a way to block the plethora of egresses and entrances from more... things, right? Patti, do you concur?"

"I agree alright, but do you have any brilliant ideas?"

Well, Alex was never going to underestimate nerds again. Christ, Ben looked like some final-level boss in a Japanese arcade game. Alex tightened his grip on the table leg and joined Patti and the Doctor. He had a brilliant idea! "Lord's prayer. We need the lord's prayer playing over that … emergency mall intercom. In ... in LATIN."

Micah had hung back in the stairwell waiting for the Chubster's secret weapon and was as impressed as everyone else was. If it meant the chubster was happy to go in the front, let him be their human shield. Then he heard what the Indian kid said, and with all the stress of the day he couldn't hold it in. He burst out laughing until he had tears in his eyes. It was too much, no one was that naive? " Your kidding right, Jesus fucking Christ on a stick, 'the lord's prayer' is going to save us?"

Dr. Victor barked out a solid laugh, eyebrows raised. "Micah, you should have been a doctor... Right, can anyone hot wire a car to block this stairwell? I'm sure we can kill the power to the elevators from the room that Mr. Page announced, too. In fact, there may be more supplies in there. Small group, then, and the better equipped should help those louts on the first floor..." "Micah, why don't you go with me and the Shirtless Boy Wonder? Patti and our Samurai Ben can help with the first floor situation. Agreed?"

When the knife-wielding man said "fucking Christ on a stick," Alex’s face flushed a dark, ruddy brown and he anxiously touched his crucifix. He had to cut the man some slack. It was hard to hold the faith during times of crisis, right? And maybe Australia wasn't a Christian country. He smiled faintly. Even he almost turned from Christ. Before the End Times, Emiliano had been telling him a lot about Buddhism and possibilities beyond Catholicism, and Alex . . . actually liked what he heard. He'd questioned his faith. Maybe that's why he was in this horrible position, surrounded by demons, the living dead, and ATHIESTS. "Okay, Doctor, I’m with you," he said. "Ah, uh, my shirt . . . it ripped."

Great idea, doc, but, if you're thinking somebody can use a car to block the door, how exactly is that person or persons supposed to get back inside when the deed is done?

"Micah has the right idea. I'm just more concerned with what Ben would like to do once this is all done. I'm not sure insurance will cover this here situation, but... maybe we can drive the car through the concrete a little bit and, say, wedge it? Or... we could just ram another car in the way... either way, I'd rather not leave our rears exposed unless we had to, and there certainly isn't enough sun, sand, and surf to make me feel like I have to."

A red Jeep next to Ben's car began violently shaking, ala 'if this van's a' knockin', but supplemented with guttural chokes. In the driver's window a head abruptly appeared, covered in blood, it opened the car door, and stepped out, closing it behind itself. They knew how to open doors.
The creature was a short woman in a business suit, the shirt sleeves rolled up and blood running out in sticky strings from two large gashes in her wrists. She almost seemed to be smiling, and clawed at the thankfully armored Ben.
Meanwhile, an unmarred black man in a red Adidas zip up, and a construction worker with half of his face missing strolled in the open gate. The black man almost seemed to glance in the booth, like the two were just strolling in to get to their car. He still held a cell phone in his hand.
From within the garage, a elderly homeless man in a oversized multi-colored windbreaker lurched rather quickly around some cars, his face was strangely slack. All of them really, looked like they were passively going for a walk by their facial expressions, but upon seeing the humans, began showing their teeth like angry dogs.

(Ben's armor doesn't protect his back. So he was wide open to being ninja'd again!) Ben kicked violently at the bleeding woman, and managed to create enough distance to get a good downward swing with his bokken. Whack! The wooden sword hit her feebly on the left shoulder. Ben was not prepared! He needed to prepare! He let off a shout to build his spirit. "Hyyyaahhh!"
