"You oughtn't cry, we're the one's that have to listen to your puns." To Nurse Cathleen -"I'd say I hope you people know what you're doing, but after you let that thing in after a physical, I doubt you even know what you're doing." Patti walked back over to where Ione's destroyed body lay. She spotted the bit of yarn and pulled it out carefully.

Unseen Presence- "I pride myself on my GALLOWS humour, but you're a SUPERnatural! NyeeHeeHeeHeeeee..."
Kenny- "Jesus christ."
Cathleen- "I told you." The yarn was indeed not from clothing. prodding her ruined shirt apart a little, ignoring the post-beatdown gouges in her flesh, Patti could tell this red yarn had been used to sew the chest shut - far from the best material for that kind of work. The inside of the chest cavity must have had some kind of filling, of which scraps of newsprint poked out through damaged areas.

Apparently, the strangeness and maybe the recent trip to Tukwila had broken Patti's sense of grotesqueness. She looked to find the knot that fastened the yarn. She had learned a few things about magic and one of those was that the ceremony of it was important. She decided that she should leave the knot in tact, but her curiosity needed to be sated.
She found a pair of scissors nearby and cut the yarn so she could get a better look at the stuffings. It might also be possible that the content of the stuffings was important as well. She would inspect and retain anything she removed from the cavity.

Kenny- "What are you-- God, I gotta get out of here. Peace." Kenny bailed and Hellen's voice receded into muffled babbling and chuckles. Cathleen came close.
How far was Patti willing to go? The cavity was filled with newspaper strips, like the sort you'd make to do papier mâché. Maybe something small was in there, but it was very hard to tell. There was some crud that was probably lung tissue, though Patti was no expert, and it seemed the main thing missing in all of this was the heart. Without stripping the body, Patti can't be sure if there are any other entry points or wounds. Cathleen- "So were you, like, Bones in your old job?"

Cathleen stood still for a minute, her lingering juvenile rebellion keeping her from taking prudent action. She glanced at the remains. How the fuck was it going to make eye contact with that mess, let alone voice a command? Finally, she threw a towel over it and went back to work sorting out the mess.

Upon examination, Ione was revealed to have no heart - only news clippings - and that her chest was sewn shut with red yarn. By stories, she had some hypnotic powers, enhanced strength, and unusual gymnastic ability, and by examination it was determined conclusively she had been undead. They didn't initially have her listed in the notes as anything other than "unique mummy creation," until more reports from around Seattle revealed there were more like her. Then they got an entry in the monster pamphlet, as "The Heartless." MONTHS LATER!
It was a snowy morning, but the clinic was warmed by small braziers and the insulation of the nearby doors. Nurse Cathleen and Dr. Bebe were on duty and Davin was putting his shirt back on, when foolz ran up in that piece. Ermias- "This man passed the demon test. He ... seems to be in shock?"
Dr. Bebe- "Nurse Cathleen, get the hypothermia kit ready. Davin, you're free to go."
Cathleen- "Right away."
Davin- "I'll stay a minute... Damn." ((Micah and Alex are on the scene. Patti can be here after a few rounds of posts by those guys.))

Micah stood hovering nervously out of the way. "Do we know anything? What the fuck got him?"

Davin- "Nurse Davi...? Fuck it. Mister, what's your name?"
Mister- "Colqhoun... I ... Was P-pastor Colqhoun, at Mars Hill Church in Ballard..."
Ermias- "As Micah say, did something get you, Mister Cahoon?"
Colqhoun- "Riley, actually... Colqhoun is my first name." ((I will here ask that anyone who figures out what movie I'm taking this plot from, please pretend the movie doesn't exist for the purposes of this adventure.))
Nurse Cathleen helped Colqhoun get undressed, and the man was obviously too distraught to have a moment of shame. His body was built slight, but wiry muscles stretched over his bones. She quickly covered him in a specially prepared blanket, and set hot damp towels on his neck and wrists. Dr. Bebe set aside his dirty clothes on a stainless steel tray, and put her gloved hands to work checking the mans vital signs and more. Cathleen- "There you go... Don't move these, OK?"
Dr. Bebe- "You seem well enough, physically. You're safe now, Colqhoun."
Colqhoun- "Can I be?"
Davin- "Is something after you? I think we can damn well handle anything at this point, if you can get straight with us."
Colqhoun- "..." ((After Micah and Alex post one more time, Patti can show up.))

Micah was looking skeptically at the guy who he was pretty sure was a complete loon and a priest to boot."So apart from freezing his fucking nuts off, there's nothing wrong with the guy? It's not fucking inside you, is it Car-hoon?" He touched his protection tattoo on his arm, rubbing it slightly as if it would help.
(( No idea here, you'll have to clue me in after .))

Colqhoun- "In...side? Ugh... Oh god-"
Davin- "Focus on what Alex said - we kick mummy asses in here. You're going to be OK, right?"
Colqhoun- "Mm... mm..."
Dr. Bebe- "Yes, Micah, Colqhoun seems to be in good health. Ballard isn't very far. Though the trip could be dangerous, it wouldn't be very long."
Ermias- "You don't need to tell anyone. This world is dangerous and terrible. If you need time..."
Colqhoun- "... I... It's OK, I believe... I believe I owe you a story..." He was warm enough now to let the compresses drop from his wrists, but Cathleen made sure he kept the one at the neck and kept the blanket on. The outside world was nothing but a dim white gleam at one door, the main light from the low fires and the clinic's conservation lights. The people waited on the small man, as he shuddered gently, eased his body slightly, and began to speak. Colqhoun- "We were not in a service at the time, when ... it happened. I was preparing for the youth group... I'm a youth pastor. But the main man was in the building - Pastor Mark. I was surprised... I didn't get to see much of him since the ministry expanded recently. He was there for a business meeting, with his team. So it was ... seven of us. Pastor Mark, myself, Wendy, Mitchell, Caden, Josh, and Jeremy. No... Nine. There were two guards... The first to... Well, we knew it wasn't safe outside. There was no way home. And with what was happening, and where we were, it was easy to imagine... This was it. The end of days, right? Pastor Mark, he convinced us we could just stay, and pray, and we would be seen through the tribulation. We thought people in the neighborhood would come to us for guidance, but... it didn't happen. I don't know... I don't know why."
Cathleen- "Well, Mars Hill does have a creepy reputation."
Dr. Bebe- "Nurse Cathleen!"
Cathleen- "Sorry, Dr. Bebe!"
Colqhoun- "No... It's true. That's all in the past now... All of it." He looked fit to cry again, but pulled it together. "So we were... praying there, holding hands, holding out... All feeling, at first, as if the doors would be beaten in by monsters - that we would die with our bodies savaged but our souls at peace, ready to meet our s-saviour... Hours, we were on our knees, pain welled up until we couldn't feel it anymore, then came again in a new form, burned itself away again. We held in our piss until we felt like we'd die of that... So many hours. I could wonder, in that stupid way we do, if no one had spoken, if everything - everything could have been different. Of course not, but ... Wendy spoke, so meekly. And Pastor Mark, he ... was very angry, you understand? But he calmed down. We took turns then, using the bathroom. And when we were done, we had to look at the world as it had always been, and still was - a material reality... A flesh and blood creature you must ... you have to live with, or die from... We needed sleep, food, and water. No one dared speak about going home. We all lived far away... it just seemed too dangerous. And Pastor Mark, he convinced us... He had us convinced we would still be saved. All... All we had to do was survive the tribulation with our faith, he said. And... Maybe he was right. Maybe we all lost our faith, you understand? But ... How could we not? Our shepherd... He lost his faith first."

Colqhoun seemed like he was afraid to continue, or needed a break. While he was at it, Dr. Bebe had him open his mouth wide, shone a light in, and passed a tiny vial in front of his nose with the other hand. She nodded her head and put those tools away. Cathleen rubbed his shoulder, and he seemed a bit relieved. He returned to his sad tale. Colqhoun- "...We were right across the streets from Trader Joe's and a Cash & Carry. Surely, they would have been quickly raided by others, but still... There may have been food, right there. But we couldn't leave. Just couldn't. Pastor Mark... He wouldn't dream of it, browbeat us with sermons... How to be real men, for Jesus. It's such a laugh, god. We were damned by our cowardice. Social cowardice, mind you, that we could be more afraid to seem lost in the eyes of the father than to be devoured by the monsters outside. We wasted away, eating everything as slowly as possible. We were drinking filthy rain water with a few scant hard candies dissolved into it - our only sustenance for days - when one day I woke to smell meat cooking. When I smelled that, I can't...
Colqhoun- "...I thanked God. I did that... Can you...?" He shuddered badly, but then regained some control. Everyone knew what was coming next. "Josh had somehow passed away in the night, and Pastor Mark ... was cooking his legs." Even having seen it coming, everyone in the room changed colors and expressions dramatically. What could we do? So weak, so broken... There was nothing left of us but need. We... Josh..."
Ermias- "I can't ... I'm sorry." He left, almost forgetting his weapon as he went, bumping into things left and right.
Davin- "...?"
Dr. Bebe- "I am 95% certain he is not a ghoul."
Colqhoun- "Ghoul? What...?"
Dr. Bebe- "Just... keep going."
Colqhoun- "Most of us tried to eat sparingly. Others did not... It didn't matter, because hunger soon came over us again. But ... this time it was different... It came on quicker, as if the meat's nourishment was so much less substantial than it had seemed... We argued, we couldn't go on like this, we needed food. But somehow, this time, no one brought up the possibility of just... going the hell outside. I can't for the life of me think why..." Soon, there was fighting again - verbal, than physical... Jeremy attacked Mark, and Mark shoved him off of the stage... he smashed his head in, and this time... I swear, I couldn't make myself feel... human. I knew, on a logical level, it was all against all, like Malthus--"
Davin- "I think that was actually Hobbes."
Dr. Bebe- "Davin! You're right, but still..."
Cathleen- "C-colqhoun, g-go ... on."
Colqhoun- "I knew it would be my turn soon. I wasn't part of the inner circle, like the others... But I couldn't think of anything but satisfying my... my damned hunger... Josh's meat had lasted a week. Jeremy was a larger man, but it did not last a single day. That left Caden, Mitchell, Wendy, Mark, and myself. Mark... the beast himself, certainly would not be a victim. The other three were the remains of his business team ... and I, a lowly local youth pastor. That night, right after we finished... with Jeremy, I simply walked out the door. I could hear Caden calling to me. 'You're going to die, Colqhoun.' I knew it was true... I have been stricken from the Book of Life forever." ((Anyone have a comment or question during this lull in the mayhem?))

Micah was definitely looking green around the gills."How come they just let you go? Seems a bit fucking light given the rest of your tale. Still feeling that.. err hunger? Cause there's a dude down in Belltown..."
