That was convenient. Were they in cahoots? Naaah, that was just a little paranoia that Ben entertained for the sake of itself. He was actually quite pleased with Beau volunteering to follow that monster. Hopefully it wasn't a trap, for either Beau or anyone he'd lead to the supposed destination. More paranoia!
It didn't feel good to be all alone in enemy territory though. Now Ben really hoped that no zombies or other monsters would turn up. But he couldn't even put his back against the wall, because of ghosts. So he stood away from the walls, turning around slowly to try to keep an eye out in every direction, including upwards. |

Ben was alone outside one of the largest buildings on the west coast. The world was creepy and weird. He noticed something he'd missed before. There were several dead birds in the bushes nearby, and a few dead rats in the shrubbery below. Delightful.Joe's Voice on the Radio-
"Scout to Rear, we're coming out the southwest side! Ready to move!"

Ben fumbled with the radio for a moment. And which side was the south-west one again?
Ben-
"Uh... Rear here. The others went in after you. Did you meet up?"
Ben did some mental gymnastics to figure out on which side he was. Had they gone to the left or right when they approached the tower from the north? Was he already at the right place? Surely that couldn't be, because then Joe wouldn't have needed to specify, right? Maybe it was the right side, but they were coming out through a different exit?

Yeah, it must be a different exit, or he wouldn't have specified. Ben was on the south side of the building, but maybe closer to the east corner. That meant when facing the street, he should expect to see them coming from the right - if they came for him.Joe's Voice-

Ben had no grasp of proper radio protocol, and just faked it like the civilian he was. "Copy?" Was he supposed to have copied Joe's reply in order to verify that he had heard it? Was that what that meant? Hopefully Joe wouldn't be too mad at him for making a mockery out of radio communication. |

Ben put the radio away, figuring that "over" meant that the conversation was over. And judging from the noise he'd soon be able to talk face to face to the others anyway. 
Ben-
"Oh, all righty then..."
He got his shit in order. That is, he grabbed the flare-stick he'd left leaning against the wall, and peeked out to see if they were really headed his way, and if he should wait until they reached him, or if it looked like a better idea to go meet up with them and then head in a better direction. But from Joe's message it sure sounded as if he was supposed to wait.

   Ashley charged out behind the other two, helping cover their retreat. He swung at the zombies if they came too close, but otherwise seemed mostly concerned with following the other two and ensuring their safety. "! Is there a man over there?" Ashley hadn't heard the chatter of the others clearly, but he was good at following. |

Just like that, they started to run by on the sidewalk next to Ben's plaza. They waved at him as they went by, and he joined the escape. Zombies struggled to pursue them from every direction, slowed by cars, obstacles, and the steepness of the hill.

"Beau went after a monster-man! He was wearing a huge backpack, so I thought it a good idea to follow him. But I had to stay with the radio."

Well, Ben only saw that he went left, so if he stayed on that route... Just as he was starting to look that way to answer the question, a few people noticed at once - uphill, east a few blocks, someone too deft to be a zombie threw a white animal onto a car and then followed it over the top, then semi-disappeared back into the maze of abandoned vehicles.
Joe-
"That jackass!"
He took off as fast as he could, running up the hill. Fortunately for anyone who wanted to do so, the hill became slightly less steep past this intersection - though still a bit brutal.
Stevie-
"I can't keep up with that."
Kyle-
"Yeah, think I'm gonna give this fun run a pass. Too happy to be alive right this minute."
