Ben- "I don't see why the tapes couldn't have been cursed. Just sending them out for kicks seems a bit weak compared to sending them out as supernatural anthrax bombs. And I really don't see why an apocalypse would have to stick to a predefined genre." Ben walked past an opened magazine on the floor, and stopped briefly to poke at it with his bokken. Nope. No secrets hidden there."But if we find survivors they could be witnesses. Now that could tell us something!"

Anna- "Two groups of two? Let's start looking!"

"Hurmp...You're right Sir." He's talking to Anna this time, distinctly. "I never meant to imply that our mission was in vain, I am just unsure of the situation." He always liked to know what he was going into, and this was no exception. He eased his grip on his crowbar a second. "I think Seth and Anna should be in different groups. I will go with either of you." He offers, though he is fairly sure Anna would rather he NOT be around her. Either way, she was still a leader, and he'd offer her anyways. "Several of us have seen monsters which were not so easy to be rid of, Sir." He offers Anna. "I see reason to be cautious."

Anna- "Cautious but not hopeless. Sounds like every day of my life since leaving home." She raised a finger, almost edging toward Ben, but then went back to Ashley."I haven't seen you in action much before today. Might as well see more of your chops. And talk about that junk from last night. Let's do, uh, all the rooms on the west side of the floor."

Ben- "Uh... yeah. What if we find something? Or something finds us? Wouldn't it make more sense to stick together, but split up in different sections of large rooms, and in different adjacent rooms, or rooms across hallways? You know, stick close enough together that we'd easily be able to come to each others' help?" And no need to synchronise watches and meet up at a specific time and place later on. Then again, Ben wasn't sure what exactly they were looking for. He just assumed that they'd spend about as much time actually looking at stuff as they would moving from place to place. If they'd spend the brunt of the time moving, then it probably would make sense to split up, since it was a huge building to cover.

Anna- "We'll be fine. We're on the same floor and it's not that big of a building. Just give a shout." She went one way with Ashley and Ben went the other way with Seth...
Seth had a tendency to open doors quickly, to reduce the sense of suspense. Once begun, it quickly became apparent it was going to be completely impossible to conduct a truly thorough search. For one thing, much of the data was inaccessible. The majority of information was in cryptically labelled beta tapes. The organization didn't make much sense.
But they didn't need to look at every single thing, if they could figure out the chronology of it all. They sat down to do some homework, in the dim light. Seth- "I have a feeling kids weren't gonna send something via beta tape, but that footage didn't look like Youtube either. I feel like when we find something, we'll know it."

Ashley and Anna walked with a bit of trepidation, seeing some blood streaks were coming out of -or going to- the first room they went into.
Inside, they saw a bullet hole in the wall, blood spray not far from it, and the streaks originated from where a body must have fallen. Given the ZP, this was pretty mild ick on display.
Behold! Dusty dusty filing cabinets, full of yellowing to fresh paper, in some insane order! They tried to figure out where the most recent stuff was. Ash couldn't help but lose a bit of his edge, because this part of the work was extremely tedious. Anna- "So," she said as she thumbed through a cabinet full of papers, "Last night you and the gang went to REI. Derek was yapping about it. What's your take on that? What happened?"

He eventually decided that he couldn't be intense while looking through papers, and instead grumbled at them and flipped through. He was very familiar with filing, that is for sure. "...Well, there was a monster that could manipulate the building in there. It turned off the lights and made a little storm...and somehow zombies got in too. And it took Patti away and I think tried to kill her. She said something about a giant maggot, and a woman, and she bled from her nose, and was really exhausted..."

Anna- "Huh. Word around the campfire is that the monster was like the blue eyed weirdo at Cornish. Sounds like it was. I saw some of its handiwork, and the bloody nose plus exhaustion that Micah had pretty much seals the deal." She slammed the cabinet shut and drew another.Anna- "What do we call this new monster and how do we kill it? Did Patti touch it? Micah never touched ol' blue eyes."

"She wasn't in the mood to talk about it, but knowing Patti, I bet she tried. I wonder if anyone figured out if it was flammable like some of the other monsters. I bet bullets weren't much use, Sir." He offers, closing the file carefully. He felt an impulse in his gut to sort them, but pushed it aside and kept looking, thumbing through. What were they looking for exactly.

Anna- "If she didn't touch it or shoot it, we can't say they aren't solid. We don' t know yet."

"Well, she did say she shot, but the bullets went right through the woman. I'm not sure that they are solid...but...that's evidence they aren't. But then I don't know what they are." Anna- "Well there you go! Everything we've met so far that wasn't solid was also flammable. We gotta write that down for everybody, so next time someone is in that situation they can try it."

Seth flipped through a few papers idly before shaking his head and looking over to Ben.
Seth- "This had to be the last thing they were doing. Not like they'd stop to file it away, you know? Don't you think if you were a scrupulous news reporter, and you had the time, you'd leave something for people to find?"

Ben- "Yeah, possibly. I agree that they probably wouldn't have had time to file anything away, but likewise they might not have thought about survivors coming here after everyone was dead or gone. Not unless they decided to evacuate in an orderly fashion, or after a longer time. Then someone might have left a diary or something. Or a bunch of sticky notes scribbled full of info. Maybe we should leave these archives for now, and just go take a look at the offices where people worked?" Ben looked around at all the information trapped in unusable media. Certainly didn't seem like the place to be. Seth- "Yeah, sounds good. Feels like if we're gonna find anything, it's gonna be obvious."

"You're very blase about these monsters. They would be very powerful to nearly kill Greene, but I suppose that we could always try it, if nothing else. It seems like fleeing was the best, and only effective option, and if the thing was more creative, it could have continued to show her immaterial things and waste her attention." He replies to Anna. He was surprised, impressed perhaps, that this woman had such little fear of something formidable enough to have brought about the possibility of snuffing them all out with a bit of flying metal and darkness. But then she had not been there, and did not know. He exhaled, and pushed the fear aside. Their leaders were fearless. They accepted Death. Perhaps even embraced it. Why should he, their protector, do any less. He felt restless about being the coward here today, or perhaps, the one held back by caution. He somehow felt that the answers were not here, but did not contradict his superior officer.

Anna- "I was scared at first. Well, kind of... Fear is weird for me. It makes me want to get up and do something. I had this idea once, that I was going to run off to the hills - that we all should. And basically live like mujahideen, coming back to the abandoned cities to do some terrorist actions on our cold slimy enemies.
But now, I don't know. Seth is a charming dude. I don't even know why I'm here, but I don't want to leave anymore."
Ashley- Ashley looked at Anna straight for a long time, and did the first thing that approached any real commentary from him about the difference between the easiest, and the best thing to do. "...If I were make a plan for the best way to survive all of this, and wait it out, it would be to leave and start a farm and just wait, but that is surviving, not living. I am here to help Seth protect some of the community that remains, and to combat the evil servants of darkness." She slammed the last cabinet.Anna- "That's damn serious, big guy. You're like Davin... I call him Squint Eastwood. Think you're jockeying for Thurston Scowl the Third...
Anyway, I think we're done with this side. These files stop, like, a week before. Must not be a room with the most recent shit in it." They strolled out into the hall.
***
Ben and Seth had found a beta tape dated to the time of interest! They packed a beta player and some cables with it, and went back into the hall, where Ashley and Anna stood. Anna- "Wow. You got goodies. Whaddya think?"
Seth- "We came all the way out here, let's make sure we've seen everything, right?" ((Any more comments from you and on to the next floor!))
