((No thoughts or opinions? Guess I should make the color text more colorful. The smell of mildew emanated from the dungeon's green mossy walls. Hark, three under goblins approach, wielding torches and glaive-guisarmes! Anyway,))
They rounded the corner to the escalator and Joe stepped down three steps before pointing his gun and light over the edge. He looked ahead to the floor below. There were still windows down there, admitting some kind of daylight, but it was much darker than the level they were on. Black soot and scorch marks corroborated Beau's story (assuming your guy heard it, which isn't a given). Joe moved forward a few steps, permitting Ashley to come onto the escalator behind him, then tossed his flare to the floor below. He pointed his gun near it and waited a moment, before quietly telling Ashley Joe- "Cover me with your torch until I get that back." He hustled down the escalator, rounded the corner onto the lower mezzanine, cleared the corners, and gave the signal for the others to advance. He retrieved his torch from the middle of the room.
As Ashley and Patti reached the mezzanine, they saw a few zombies staggering to their feet. Joe apparently didn't feel they bore mentioning, or the use of bullets. They lurched toward Patti - the nearest human, though still ten feet away.

She tucked the flare under the strap and redrew her hammer. She was going to have to rely on the others to cover her from ghosts.
She passed Joe, lightly bumping his shoulder as she went, to let him know she was moving into his line of fire. He lowered the barrel of his rifle towards the floor as she passed.
Patti swung her hammer at the zombie diva and downed it with her first swing.

"Got it." He covers Joe as she continues, and keeps his flare out and about so that they are able to see where they are going as well as they should. Ashley continues to cover Joe, and trusts Patti to do her duty to her human brethren...killing zombies as much and as often as possible. "Beautiful." He mutters breathlessly. It's near impossible to hear, and certainly difficult to guess what he's talking about.

Joe- "No, we're looking pretty good so far, but this place is fucking impossible to secure. Look." He gestured to five different directions peril could come from, which didn't even include unnatural movement, like death from above. The towers were built into a steep hill, allowing more than one level to exit to the street. This was the middle level to do so, with some sunlight filtering into the far southwest corner of the huge space. The flares were mercifully quite bright and strong at the moment.
He lowered his weapons and used the radio for a moment.Joe- "Scout to Rear, do you copy?"
Stevie's Voice- "Yeah, copy. Whaddya need?"
Joe- "We're in. Can't secure the place, but can proceed with caution. Going to look around more. Over."
Stevie's Voice- "Uh, yeah. Thanks for the report. Over?"
Joe- "We might lose you with interference. I'll try again when we get deeper. Over."
Stevie's Voice- "Copy, over."
Joe- "Over and out." Well... The space was wide open. There were doors to stairs, elevators, doors to utility halls and closets, offices, chairs and tables, gift shops, defunct delis, and random corpses and streaks of gore. Among the dead about thirty feet away were a few that looked like cops. There was another escalator going to an even lower level. Joe- "Should we go farther down, scout around and double back, or scout this level first?"

Joe- "Don't worry about doing the whole building. I hear we're not even going to try that today, because the inner stairwells are freaky as fuck. We'll just use these frozen escalators to check out the first few floors... But hell, even those are pretty big. Those doors back there, that blind corner over there, the edges of the mezzanines high and low, shadows... Even these areas are totally beyond us to secure.
I think if we go down to the first, clear it as best we can and double back, that might be better than pressing top-down... I don't know." There knots of immobile shapes in the darkness on this level that looked like they could bear further investigation, and who knows what down below? Might as well begin the exploring...

"I'll cover you, I agree, that seems like the best course of action as is. Maybe clear the most likely levels, since it doesn't look like our evil dead are here right now." He grumbles at the thought. What kind of wicked magic had caused all of this? He wasn't sure. Gods, of course, but what kind? The thought upset him. "...We should hurry, before it becomes dark, even if they are not here, I am sure terrible things remain." Ashley pondered about the state of the building, and then what lay beyond. Where was the mummy, if not here? Perhaps he had left enough behind to lead them there. Beau had found them afterall, smug in their complacency. Somehow he doubted that bullets would be enough. A bomb maybe...If they could get bombs, but then the military had failed them. Nuclear weapons? Ma...no, no magic. Still, it worried him.

Joe- "Alright. We'll go down a little farther, but if it gets dark enough, I say we don't go any further. When we get to a new level, we move together, clear the main spaces, then move along the wall. Any doors we can jam with chairs or whatever, let's do that. Then we'll quickly examin-" They all heard it, but just for a moment, and now that Joe had stopped talking, it was gone. Something had laughed - almost impossible to tell where from. In the quiet, all they could now hear was their own breathing and the groaning and moaning of distant ghosts. Joe- "I bet that's a demon dead, and I bet it's downstairs. There's ... three ways down. Two are through those fucked up stairwells. It's gonna be expecting us, but maybe not the guns... Fuck it." He rounded the platform and started down the next frozen escalator. He stopped again to look over the edge. This time, he didn't drop the flare.
Then he hustled down further. Near the bottom he paused and tossed his flare again, this time with a high arc, to hopefully trick someone as to which way it was coming from, then hustled around the corner.
Before Patti and Joe could see what he was talking to, they heard him.Joe's Voice- "Freeze, you fucks!"
Something Else- "REeHeeHee Hee Hurrrrrm...."
Something Other Than That- "HeeHeeHee HAR HAR!"

Patti was trying to keep close to Joe, but he moved fast. When she heard the reeheehees, she reacted almost without thinking. That proved to be less than a great idea.
She jumped onto the metal plate between the up and down escalators and slid down, like in a Jackie Chan movie. When she got to the bottom, it was more like Micah Chan than Jackie, and her shoes hit the floor and stuck, sending her rolling forward.
She came to stop in a low crouch about ten feet past the bottom of the escalator, grabbed her pistol (it hadn't gotten too far away) and she tried to assess her new surroundings.

She saw another dark mezzanine of the tower, still not the lowest or darkest. This one had more food court than the one above, and the light here came from the northwest corner of the building.
She couldn't see Joe or his enemies through the escalator, but had an idea where they were - somewhat out in the middle of the room.
She noticed movement also in the shadows - ghosts, though they weren't moving fast at the moment.

Patti managed to get around the corner at the same time as Ashley. They saw Joe holding these creatures at gunpoint. They wiggled and giggled, but didn't seem to be running, attacking, or anything.Does Ashley keep charging and attack, or do people manage to keep cool enough to possibly exchange words with some of the rare intelligent undead?
