Halloween morning was gray and damp, but only threatened to rain and never quite did it. The autumn trees were lush and crinkly in the wind, and every sudden gust caused a confetti of color to loose into the wind.
The Plaza was really just a small strip mall with a variety of small businesses. Pizza Amore, Sal's Auto Parts, Lu's Nails and Taco Rocker were a few of the businesses. The sidewalks here were new and nice, and a few baby saplings were planted along the road.

 As Rudi passed Taco Rocker, a stray orange leaf caught in the Halloween breeze fluttered past her head. "HYA!" She punched it from the air and stomped the leaf into the sidewalk. Apparently, no inanimate object, however harmless, is safe from Rudi's misdirected anger. |

Rudi was distracted by the falling leaves for a moment, when she began to notice her tummy felt strange again. Bleh... She hoped she wouldn't barf this time! She saw movement near the Taco Rocker, and glanced that way. The world looked a bit bleary, was it because that gross eye thing she had going on? Two people stood at the doors talking quietly, but she couldn't make out their faces for a second... wait.... The world seemed rather fuzzy and pale, everything had a bit of a ghostly halo around it. She squinted at the figures and -- OH GOD WHAT-- 
???-
"I'm so glad I wasn't there yesterday. I just... I don't know what to believe any more. It doesn't seem possible."
???-
"Shut up about that stuff baby. Hey your roots are showing pretty good, think you might bleach 'em?"

Rudi swayed almost dizzily as she stared at the monsters ... no, not monsters. "Monster" was a term invented by humans to explain unfamiliar or frightening organisms. That being said, what the hell WERE they? Maybe they came from the other world, like the blobs that gnawed at Megan's leg. She hastily dug through her backpack and removed the slingshot and a spherical granite stone, eyes locked on the fleshy creatures. Rudi cursed herself. Stupid. She should have kept at least one weapon readily accessible. At least the not-monsters didn't seem aggressive. She took several quick steps closer and loudly demanded, "What are you?" |

This creature sounded like a girl, her body composed of slurping dog tongues.
???-
"Man... people in this town don't know their place. That's why education is necessary. What do you think you're gonna do with that thing?"
This creature seemed to "fold" its "arms" indignantly. It resembled a mass of knuckles folded up with turkey skin.

"What-- is she gonna try to hurt us Kevin?"
The turkey pile twitched at her questioningly. |

"What am I ... good point!" She laughed, but it wasn't a happy laugh. It was the kind of laugh that suggested Rudi needed a nap and some sedatives. "No heads! I can't hit something between the eyes if it doesn't have eyes." She wondered if they even bled. Rudi lowered the useless slingshot. "Are you social creatures? Who's the alpha? Take me to your leader. I need to see him. Or her. Maybe you're neither!" The female-sounding not-monster was obviously submissive to the male-sounding not-monster, so she directed her questions to turkey pile. |

Huh? Rudi blinked a few times, and she found herself staring at the Key Club Psycho and his girlfriend, one of the most popular girls in school. The monsters were gone, and the world seemed clear again. |

Kevin and Jennifer? Was Rudi really going crazy? It couldn't just be the sleepless night. She'd pulled all-nighters before, usually to care for sick pets, and the resulting sleepiness never caused visions of fleshy, nasty alien things. "Suh ... sorry, Jennifer!" She took a step back. "I'm sorry!" Rudi turned, as if to leave, but something was bothering her ... "Bitches are loyal and brave animals!" Satisfied, she sprinted away. Rudi will run aimlessly! |

Rudi ran aimlessly, until she was too tired to run. She began to realize that she wouldn't be able to randomly run into the solution, but could possibly run into danger! Where should she go? She remembered Megan's problem with her foot, and Mona was on the scary evil list! Time was running out... where would she go? |
