The world as you knew it is gone! Strange white drapery like a painter would use to protect his studio lay over and twist around everything! The cloth seems to billow in unseen and erratic winds, and cruelly they sometimes part to reveal the world they were concealing isn't even there anymore. It's cloth all the way down.
All natural and artificial light is gone, and pale grey-orange light seems to come from nowhere at all, dimly illuminating this wild phantasmagoria.

What was formerly a hall with a staircase descending downward, has become a funhouse of drapery. Everything is obscured by the twisting cloth, which moves slightly in an unseen and unfelt breeze. The ground is pliant and soft, and in some places feels precarious and weak. Rudi thinks she might have found what could be considered "the stairs" down-- a chute of cloth that leads downward into something unseen.

Goblin King Rudi went straight to the cloth staircase. She moved slowly, testing the ground ahead with tentative taps of her outstretched foot. She could practically hear David Attenborough saying: Separated from her pack, the young human explores this new environment with evident caution. However, she is woefully unprepared for the danger that awaits her."Meg -" Rudi's voice hitched, so she cleared her throat and tried again. "Megan? Can you hear me?" If Rudi managed to hang on to her backpack, she will take out her slingshot and descend the staircase.

Rudi amazingly still had not only her backpack, but her non-Goblin clothes, still wrapped around her foot. In this world, they seemed to have lost their magnetic power though, and were easily unwrapped. She descended the dark chute, sliding down halfway like the plainest and creepiest bouncy house in the world. She could hear nothing but the flapping of cloth, and an eerie cold silence. The terrain here was similarly alien, empty and textured with the weave of canvas. She tried to recall her route back to the "living room" and entered a womb-like area of cloth... the inside was full of the warped shapes and--
What?
In front of something that perhaps resembled a seat, a single human foot sat on the ground, disappearing somewhere around the mid-calf. It was not chopped off though, it just... ended. The foot was small and delicate, the ankle covered with pale white skin, and the foot wore a white Keds sneaker. It jostled slightly, like it was fidgeting.

Rudi crouched and crept closer to the foot, as if stalking prey. She slowly propped her backpack and spare clothes onto the ground, tucked her slingshot into her pants, and bent her knees. Then, she lunged at the foot, hands outstretched and grasping. She intended to hold on to the limb until it pulled her to safety or brought another person to the clothscape. She didn't much care if her act damned two people instead of one. Rudi didn't want to be alone.

Rudi grabbed the foot, and her first thought was... It's warm. The foot jerked and struggled, and tried to escape her grasp.

The foot was struggling. "No, NO! Don’t leave me here!" Rudi fought to hold on, digging her nails into the limb's skin above the shoe and tugging with all her strength. "HELP ME!"

Rudi tugged and scraped, and found the skin of the foot tore very easily. She scratched red rakes into its smooth white flesh. It struggled, and then... it went slack. She found she still could not pull it well, but it was limp, and did not fight back. It was though it was moored to an anchor that was immobile.

Rudi's eyes widened. She knew this limb. What if she just attacked her friend in a drugged-out, hallucination-fueled rage? Poor, sweet, sickly Megan. She loosened her grip on the leg but did not release it completely. This didn't feel like a hallucination. It was too damn real. Rudi groaned softly. "I'm sorry." With a single nail, she scratched, "HELP RUDI" into the pale skin, and then released Megan. She felt ill with guilt. She never wanted to hurt Megan. Never, ever. Well, at least the ladies had been right: there were scarier things than a hole in the ozone layer. Rudi owed them all ice cream floats, if she ever escaped.

Rudi sat, trying to think of her next move, when she noticed some movement on the foot. It wasn't the foot moving... She leaned closer, and saw them... almost completely transparent, palm sized blobs clustered around the foot, crawling from the floor and throbbing around the injured foot. She wondered if they were trying to heal Megan, when she noticed their tiny teeth.

Rudi grasped at the blobs with her hands and tried to pull them away from Megan. "Leeches, botflies!" Could this be the girl's mystery sickness? But what did it all mean? The place must be an alternate dimension. It certainly resembled Megan's house, thankfully sans the annoying coca cola theme. So maybe being partway stuck in the dimension, at the mercy of parasite aliens, was killing Megan! Rudi had some flint in her backpack. Perhaps she should burn the cloth house down. But would that kill her in the process and hurt her friend's foot? Did this magic fabric even go up in flame? Would it just grow again? She couldn't risk dying. If Rudi didn't survive this, Rattie, Rattums, Ratta, Snakeface, Turtums, Birdie, and Bird wouldn't survive, either (animals made her parents uncomfortable, especially rats and snakes). And who would help Megan? Imaginary David Attenborough said: The young human is driven to endure for the sake of her adopted young and packmate. She attacks the bloodsuckers with a renewed sense of purpose.

Rudi is able to pull the blobs free! At first they seem like they're going to stick to her hand and start noshing, but violent arm flailing throws them off into the folds.
Turning her attention back to Megan, Rudi strains her bleary vision and examines the legs. She instantly feels really bad about the scratches she made - they're larger and angrier looking than whatever damage the creepy crawlies were doing. Then she notices how weird the injuries they left are - blotchy, purple, some with rings of tiny black marks...

Rudi leaned forward, until her eyes were inches from the damaged skin. The black marks might be eschars, she decided; they were symptomatic of many tissue-damaging injuries, including some poisonous spider or snake bites. Rudi rummaged through her bag and was disappointed to learn that she left her wilderness survivalist first-aid kit at home. If Megan was being poisoned, she could slow the spread with a tourniquet. Rudi removed her ascot and tied it as far up on Megan's calf as she could, securing the cloth firmly but hopefully not roughly enough to bruise too much. She felt awful about the red welts across Megan's skin. Rudi patted the leg gently and spoke to it, like she might speak to a puppy. "I'm sorry. It's okay now." The tourniquet was only a temporary solution. She had to escape the weird dimension and find a permanent cure to Megan's problem. Was she the only person in the clothscape? Rudi ventured to one of the cloth house walls and tried to rip it open.

Rudi ripped through the cloth, pushing forward and back towards the 'chute' upstairs. Rudi felt sick thinking about those blobby little things crawling all over poor little Megan... Her stomach turned. Maybe she just hadn't noticed it until now, but she felt very queasy. She felt like she'd eaten too much greasy pizza. She felt like she was gonna hurl, leaning against the rough cloth. Acid climbed up her throat...

Never one to resist her body's natural urges, Rudi leaned over and threw up like a champ!
