Here are my thoughts on why having the GM setting things straight can be a good idea:
In the Play By eMail RPGs I participated in, players would send their dialogue to anyone within earshot, and then it was up to the other players to reply to that dialogue as they saw fit. Quite often we ended up in convoluted threads where we had more than one line of dialogue going at the same time. Very much like regular, old forum arguments where each debater is replying individually to each statement made by the opponent. In the end it was up to the GM to decide who said what in which order.
I don't know if that'll be how we end up doing this here, or if we'll restrict ourselves to single lines of dialogue. If we do, it'd probably take some time to say complex things, as each part of the whole would have to be posted separately, and enough time would have to pass before the next post in order to give other players the opportunity to interrupt if they so choose.
Posting the whole thing at once is quicker, but then one character might have one thing to say about one part of the complex thing, and another character might have something to say about another part. And then the dialogue splits into two dialogues at the same time, at least in our real time. In the game world those conversations would still take place one after another, or possibly be spliced into one another, if it's at all believable that a person could keep that up.

Wow this is getting more complicated by the second but it's all good. To stop it getting messy perhaps we could have a separate "dialogue" subsection that is anything that isn't an integral part of story. When two characters are in the vicinity of each other, one can ask the other out of or in character to engage in a conversation in that forum. We could have a thread for each character or situation/place and NPCs. Anyways that's my suggestion.

Hmmmm!!! Interesting interesting everyone. That's a good idea Indea, how about I start this thread called "converse here!" and two characters can go at it back and forth, and I will use this for the 'storyline' thread, or either character could include it in their post?

OK I WENT CRAZY! I created some a new sub-board with threads for each of our various locations. As your characters move, please post in the appropriate thread. THX and let me know if you hate it.

I finally added an inventory to Ben's profile, and I was considering adding a car as well. At least if the public transit system is as bad as reported. I assume that it would make sense that the car would be parked in the underground parking garage that Dr Victor is in right now? Ben also owns an armour for Kendo practice, plus one or more Bokken. Not sure how stuff like that is handled though. Would he have that stashed in a locker or in the trunk of his car? Perhaps both would be equally likely? Oh, and being the lazy slacker that I am, I have completely neglected give proper thanks for Ben's avatar. Thanks, Christopher! And Kelly's V-fingers idea was perfect!

I thought I'd hold off on inventorying any belongings that Patti didn't have on her person, since there's no telling if she'll ever even see her apartment again.

@ Gillsing- no prob, I didn't specify car or bus, but if he makes bank, he'd definitely have a car I think. I think all that stuff is reasonable for him to have, and yes he'd be down in the garage where Dr. Vic was. And you're welcome! I shaded them so I get my "AN' I HELPED!" moment. @ Brett - Good idea, that may be tricky, she could get there one day. IF SHE SURVIVES! DUN DUN DUN! ;D

Hi guys! I'm late to the game (Kilnarak's friend here), but would like to join the RP action with a young athlete archetype character. Is there still room for one more?

It's based on a Stephen King novella of the same name. It's... actually probably my favorite movie-adaptation of one of his books. I'm pretty sure the novella was one of the inspirations for Silent Hill, too. More or less creepy mist rolls in, and all of these people get stuck in a supermarket. Then they realize there are terrible things out wandering around out there that want to eat them all. Things quickly spiral downward. >> But yes! Post Kelly made for the Roof made me think of it. 'cause of the terrible reverse-sky-jellyfish. And I liked it, so I think it was pretty good.

@ Dkender - no problem! We'd love to have you, welcome! Just chat with us here and let us know what kind of character you'd like (athletes always welcome) and we can advise you. From there, you'll create a character profile and we can whip you up your own 'character origin' thread and then toss you into the melee. @ Kilnarak - I never saw the movie, but I remember reading the short story. Something about a grocery store in it struck me, but I don't remember anything anymore. I liked it when I was in middle school at least. Now I want to see this film too!

I've been loling at Dr.Victor a lot, he is a great character. I loved the hanson joke slipped in there after all the diseases. Although to pick a minor bone, it's a bit Dr.Coxish...

@ kilnarak - the characters’ psychological reactions to the monsters in the mist is my favorite part of that movie. Have you seen The Corridor (2010)?
@ indea – glad to be here, Captain!
@ Kelly – Thanks! Here’s the character type I’m considering: a sophomore at Seattle U, age 19 going on 20. He’s talkative, friendly, and confident, maybe voted Prom King in high school. Before moving to Seattle to earn a degree in something-or-other (he has not decided yet), he lived peacefully in a Californian upper-middle-class nuclear family. He’s a pitcher on the university baseball team and fiercely enjoys competition and physical activity. His parents still pay the bills, so he does not work to support his education. In fact, he’s never held a job, except for that lemonade stand gig during first grade. He is emotionally immature, irresponsible, and often acts before he thinks. He also firmly believes that he knows best, even when he certainly does not.
As for his biggest flaws in a Zompocalypse, he has lived a charmed, sheltered life and has never experienced any real hardships; actual danger or tragedies could overwhelm him. He’s also prone to rash decisions and is overconfident and naive. As for useful zompocalypse skills, he’s a top-notch sprinter, can bench 280 pounds multiple reps, and might knock a zombie’s head off its shoulders with a sturdy baseball bat and a few good swings. During a “fight or flight” scenario, he usually chooses “fight”. He’s never held a gun before, though.
What do y’all think? I’m up for ideas.
