tab As Ben lay in his bed, waiting to fall asleep, he thought about the day's events. Being out in the streets hadn't been so bad that day. Maybe it was because they hadn't really left their block, so they knew that safety was only a few steps away? It would probably be much worse farther away from the 403 building, where zombie-herding might end up in an alley made into a dead-end by another group of zombies. tab Probably better to just kill them all. Wouldn't be so fun if it turned out that there was a cure, but what cure could there be from death? None that popular media had ever portrayed as 'worth it'. Not unless you're the star of the show and needed for the franchise. Oh well. tab Ben sighed and then smiled. tab Sonya had seemed surprisingly eager to get out there and just do something. Quite a change from when they had first arrived at the 403, and she had just wanted to rest, almost immediately after spending the night in the 801 building. Sure, the trip there had been harrowing to say the least, but it's not as if it had taken that long. Maybe she hadn't gotten any real sleep that night? Ben remembered that she had been crying a lot, so that was probably it. He was glad that she seemed to feel a lot better now. tab And as awkward as it made him feel, it was clear that it was time for him to 'make his move'. They'd spent enough time together for him to find out that she wasn't just cute, but smart and strong as well. So sugoi! And if he waited any longer it would be extra awkward to explain why he'd waited so long. Though that would be a small issue compared to her actual reaction. If she didn't like him the same way that he liked her, they could still remain friends, right? tab Sure, in the world before the zompocalypse that might not have been much of an option, except in comedies where permanently friend-zoned guys acted like personal servants to the girls who didn't want them. But he and Sonya had bashed zombie skulls together! Surely that forged a bond that wouldn't be broken by a bit of 'awkward'? tab Then again, perhaps he would prefer some time away from her if she only saw him as a friend and nothing more? Because that's usually how it worked, wasn't it? Maybe even in the zompocalypse. He could free his mind of all these thoughts about Sonya! Think about more ways to kill zombies or something. tab Was that the right attitude? Prepare for the worst, welcome it with open arms, and enjoy the relief if it doesn't come to pass? Like a samurai, ready to die in battle. Ben's mind wandered away to ancient Japan, flashing blades and the code of Bushido...

Jackson didn't come back to the apartment that night, until after 3 AM. It was an intense day for Anna, and he was probably having long conversations with her. Or whatever that guy got up to.

tab When morning arrived, Ben was still tired. Things had not gone well with Sonya, and he'd spent much of the night going it over (and over) in his head. She had said that she liked him, and even kissed him, but when he had showed her how much he liked her, that had apparently been too much. Was he supposed to always restrain himself? That didn't seem like much fun. Maybe they weren't as compatible as he'd hoped, and he should start looking for someone else among the survivors in the city? tab Meh. That probably wouldn't happen. tab Eventually he got up and readied himself for the day ahead.

As if to underscore the failure, Jackson was out again ... which probably meant he spent the night with Anna. Time for some Charlie Brown - styled exclamations of despair!

Some days later...
In the evening, Stevie came by Ben's room, a-knockin' at the door.

Ben got up from his bed and walked over to the door. Who could that be? Ben- "Hey! What's up?"

Stevie- "Hey, lotta mayhem out here tonight. No big deal, I'm sure. Anyhow, I'm not sure how important it is to know this, but I got a closer look at the video. I'm pretty sure it's not really a gas cloud. It's thousands of dark ghosts."

Ben- "Thousands? That's a lot. So that seems like the most plausible explanation for the zombies, doesn't it? Since dark ghosts make zombies. And with thousands at the same place, doesn't it look like the Columbia Tower was some sort of ground zero? Maybe that's where Gutless Boy opened the Seattle portal to wherever? Or something like that." Thinking it over, though, Ben figured that it wasn't information they could really act upon. Mostly a confirmation of his earlier suspicions."I guess you could tell Seth if you see him? It doesn't seem urgent, but good to know about and keep in mind for the long term strategy."

Stevie- "My thoughts exactly, brother. I'll see ya tomorrow." After some pleasantries, Ben was left alone with his thoughts.

Ben spent another 'exciting' evening digging through more of the files from the Steve Pool thumb drive. He didn't expect to find anything, but it still felt more interesting to read than anything else he had access to. And it would really suck if there was something useful in there, and he missed it because he was too lazy to do the work.
He was working busily as the dark part of the night began. Jackson came in and gave him a perfunctory "Yo" before heading to bed with two cans of PBR.

Ben works on his computer, while Jackson idly flips through magazines while drinking shitty beer.

Ben was wearing his ear buds while listening to a bunch of audio files. Interviews with witnesses of various types, as well as the occasional memo. Reading while listening to people talking didn't really work for him, so instead he kept browsing the image files while listening.
Jackson was doing nothing that should have prevented him from hearing a ruckus. Suddenly, massive crashes and roaring sliding noises were audible from upstairs. Even Ben heard it through his buds! Jackson- "Guns? No! But what?!"

Ben- "What the hell?" Hearing the noise from upstairs, Ben took his buds out and got up from his bed. Who or what could possibly make all that noise, and at this hour too? He stepped out of his bedroom into the living room where Jackson was still awake."What's going on up there?"

Jackson- "It can't be natural! Poultergeists? GAH!" Jackson jumped at a massively loud thump above the room. Most of the sounds were more like scraping or grinding, all thunderous. ((Gillsing - You can still RP anything up to leaving the room, at which point stop for the moment.))
