Back in her room, she sighed at the sparse floor. Maybe the girls would like to help her bring a few things up from the third floor later. All there was in her room was a Sleep Number mattress, a duffel bag, and a small pile of what would have been considered dirty laundry just three days ago. She decided she would need something to hang her clothes with on off days, so they could air out fully, and be as minimally offensive as possible. She still had her workout clothes that she had walked to the mall in and she knew she was going to need those as early as tomorrow. She sorted the new clothes onto hangers in the closet and folded the other items and stacked them neatly back in the suitcase. She picked out a few items and got changed. She was tempted to wear the new jacket she had acquired, but hung it in the closet instead. It's not like she was going anywhere. It was in the mid-50s outside, but fairly comfortable in the building. She really did like the jacket though. She headed down to the community center, feeling like a new person. She hoped the new style might help her change her outlook a little. Attachments:

Tremendous! Also amid the sparse ruin of the living room - a great number of table legs, pipes, nails and the like. Lashonda has become a part-time weaponsmith.

When Patti got back to her room, she could hear Lashonda snoring and Peg's door was closed. She went to her room and plopped onto the bed and mulled her thoughts for several hours. Ghosts were people. Zombies were people. People lived in the city. Staying here was just asking for more trouble. She knew this situation would increase the calls for surrendering arms. She wondered if maybe she should, but the thought of Mary making a repeat appearance and her having nothing but a hammer to protect herself was even scarier than the thought that she might be possessed and hurt other people. Maybe that was proof that she didn't believe in any kind of afterlife or eternal reward or punishment anymore. She wondered what her chances would be, trying to leave town on her own. She could take a pistol and a shotgun and all the ammo she could carry, maybe find a motorcycle that she could get around the traffic pile ups on. She was pretty sure it wouldn't work out. This whole party-commune-live-like-nothing's-changed thing wasn't looking like it would work out well in the long term either. It just made them complacent. Weren't they just up there on the patio trying to have a conversation with a ghost? That worked out like gangbusters. She knew she was approaching unconsciousness when she started trying to figure out where she could get a fishing pole on the way out of town. The thought of hiking up the north fork of the Skykomish River until she stood on ground that hadn't even been seen by a human in over a decade appealed to her senses, until she could see the river and she could see the trees and she could just imagine how great the salmon run would be this year without the fishing boats scooping them all up before they could begin their spawn... She slept fitfully.

Patti got up pretty early, not sure if she ever really slept. She didn't feel like exercising this morning and just changed into her camos. She hadn't meant to sleep in her happy new outfit, but now it seemed a little less happy. She hung it up to air, knowing she'd eventually have to wear it again. She had roof guard duty in a short while and decided to get some coffee before she headed up. She took the pistol out of the holster, checked the safety, and tucked it into the deep pocket of her pants. She didn't feel like talking about it and she thought maybe if she didn't wear it openly she could get through at least a couple of hours without any... conflict.

Lashonda was smacking a club into an Ottoman that she'd set aside for that purpose. Whack! She looked at the marks it made and hefted it in her hand, then set it aside to rest. She saw Patti finish getting ready to head out. Lashonda- "Hey, Patti. I'm sorry about Abdul. Seemed like you two got along well."

"Yeah, that was... unpleasant. If you see a ghost, might I suggest running? It took the fight right out of me when it... passed through. Have fun with the clubs." She gave her roommate the best approximation of a smile that she could manage.

Patti walked into the room. If anyone is there, she will share some pleasantries and mention the nice furniture she found downstairs the day before and see if anyone's interested in collecting some of it, so they have something to sit on and stare at before they go to bed at night. Then she went to her room, disrobed, and curled up in her heirloom quilt to sleep.

Pleasantries with Peg and Lashonda are a bit odd because not one of these three has anything in common. Lashonda talks about how she misses music by the band "Thug Snax" and Peg is chewing her nails and crawling the walls. But they're all "Have a nice evening" and "Get well soon" and the like, which is the common language of polite society.

Having gone to bed way to early, Patti woke up around 4 am, but with nine hours of sleep. She rolled out of bed, changed into her shorts, t-shirt, and sneakers and made her way to the stairwell. She ran up and down the entire stairwell, only once, not wanting to be completely spent if she had to go outside today. Since nobody was in the community center yet, she did pushups and planks in there, as well as some body-weight dips on the edge of a sofa. The whole thing took her only half-an-hour, but she figured that was enough under the circumstance. She wouldn't want to be at muscle-failure if zombies breached the lobby or Mary showed up, crawling circuits on the ceiling. Back in her room, she quietly removed the plastic from the bathtub, filled a small plastic pail, recovered the water basin, then cleaned up at the sink. In her room, she picked out some of the clothes from her loot-shopping spree and got changed. She tucked her pistol into the hipster's messenger bag the holster and tucked it in her waistband, then headed out to the community center. She couldn't always wear frumpy clothes to cover her sidearm. Attachments:

Peg woke up slightly when Patti was moving around, but fell back asleep. She slept fitfully and woke at six AM, and began writing furiously in a day planner.

Patti had seen Lashonda in the community center before she came to the room, so she made no attempt at quietude. She was still a little weirded out by Ash's profess... ation of like-likeitude. (It was probably a good thing she hadn't finished that weed.) He was far from the most handsome man in the building, even limiting the selection to the straight ones, but he had character. Now if only he could get the stick out of his ass. Maybe she could work on that. She crawled under her quilt and was out like a light.

Lashonda- "Alright, boo... Let's go this way... Shh..."
Mega- "Oh my god, this is so crazy."
Lashonda- "You really didn't get out much, did ya baby?" They went to Lashonda's room and acted like teenagers.
