"I think it is straightforward, you can just tell them. We understood well, and I am hardly unusually intelligent." Truth be told, most people, including his ex-girlfriends told him he was dumb as a brick, but there were always more delicate ways of putting that. "The one responsible has been dealt with...Though we will miss Dr. Victor's help." Maybe just not Dr. Victor...

Ione- "I know I'm angry about the dishonesty, Ben. What the hell, Thierry?"
Stevie- "Yeah, I don't think sittin' on this was a good idea, Thie. But I think it won't be too bad of a problem if we go all the way honest about it now."
Marie- "OK, we'll do a written announcement with a space for people to submit questions or comments for the Community Center, and also go around telling people individually after the meeting. Just get it over with."
Thierry- "That sounds good to me, and I'm sorry Ione. Any other ideas?"

Ben- "Maybe make that written statement as detailed as possible, and maybe make it into a more human story? Right now it feels kind of 'distant', and I think it would help if we knew exactly how things went down. Just having the results feels like some kind of casualty report in the media rather than an account from an eye witness. And this is important, so we should be able to offer more than a short statement." Ben wondered how much Thierry really knew. Maybe the UWMRC people hadn't told him the finer details? Or was he just uncomfortable sharing them? As if people would go crazier the more they found out? See, that's what implies that they would have a reason to go crazy if they knew some terrible truth that he wasn't telling them.

Ashley grunts in agreement with Ben's sentiment. Ben was easily the smartest person in the room, he was sure. At least the most logical.

Thierry- "It's a good suggestion, but we won't have time for that at the meeting. Well, I'll get together with Marie and see what we can come up with after the next issue is addressed. Anything else before we move on?"
Stevie- "I'm cool. I mean, that sucks, but I think we're doing what we can."

Ben nodded in agreement and looked around at the others.

Ione seemed petulant, Stevie and Marie seemed taciturn, Seth and Ashley less readable. Thierry nodded and with a wave of the hand returned the floor to Seth. Seth- "OK, now that that's out of the way, something that will hopefully be less dark. We found something exciting on our expedition to the news studios. This," He brandished the USB drive, "left by TV's own Steve Pool." An awkward shift in demeanors spread irregularly through the room. Ione and Stevie smiled at the thought of Steve Pool, while others remained grim about Dr. Victor, or hung in between emotions.Seth- "We don't know what's on it, but I'm guessin' it's good, 'cause there were several left out with a 'take one' note, like it was Halloween candy. Ben here is gonna do the honors, and we can gape over his shoulder."
Marie- "Um, hm, I wonder if we could power a projector, or use a television set."
Stevie- "Yeah, I can hook that up in like five minutes. Excuse me." Stevie bustled off to get that together, leaving people to discuss. Ione- "So wow, Steve Pool? You guys didn't get to see him?"
Seth- "No, I totally wish I could now. A note said something about 'Steve Pool will help you.' I like to think he's some kind of cool rogue zombie slayer or something."
Marie- "This is just silly."
Thierry- "Don't look the gift horse in the mouth."
Ione- "Don't look the gift cutie in the mustache!" Marie finally smiled a bit.

((Don't give me no flak about technical issues, Gillsing! Haha. Anyhow, I'm gonna say they magic this together. A laptop will be plugged into a modestly sized flatscreen TV, so people can see what Ben sees while he operates it, and checks out the thumb drive contents.
While peeps wait for Stevie, further discussion?))

"I like to think he is still alive and out there somewhere." He remarks to anyone near him, though he watches Seth vigilantly, waiting for his opinion about this matter. He felt sincere about all of this, at the very least. "I hope we find something informative." He puts his hands in his pockets and waits.

Seth was nodding to the conversation, and seemed to be in a somewhat upbeat mood. Perhaps shockingly so, given the grim news of a moment before, though likely he'd already hetard that. Maybe it was weirder to be Ione, wheeling from indignance to star-eyed wonder on a dime. Seth- "I have a feeling it will. Let's get this show on the road, shall we?" Seth stood by the door and tapped his foot waiting for Stevie. Thierry set up the laptop and TV, really only lacking for the cables and battery Stevie was going for.

Stevie arrived, connected the wires, worked the video settings for a minute, and presented Ben the throne. Everyone waited on the edge of their seats. Thierry- "To save power, the best thing to do is start up the TV once Ben has found something, and then leave it running, because powering up is more energy intensive then running for a while." Ben opened the thumb drive. Interestingly, the drive had a program for accessing the files on it pre-installed. It was some kind of linux-like GUI with embedded DOS elements. Highly hinky, but Ben grasped what was going on quickly enough. Basically, there were wire stories (.wir), and data bundles (.pkt) that were in less accessible language, with lots of journalist jargon, but more file attachments like photos and short video clips. Every file seemed relevant to the Zompocalypse in some way, and there were hundreds of them. Where to start?

Ashley waited, and watched the screen without comment. He seemed to be fully alert, if speechless.

Ben- "Hmm, I think it would be best to start with these wire stories, because if there's something interesting there I could just read it out to you. And then we could proceed with the videos and images, since we'd have a better idea of what those show, based on the stories they led to." Or were .wir and .pkt files linked by similar file names? That would be quite helpful, and in that case it might make more sense to tag the interesting .wir files and then focus on the corresponding .pkt files. Though Ben still had a feeling that it might take a while if they were going to be thorough.((In other words: Ben doesn't know where to start, because I don't know what those files are named.))

Thierry leaned in just far enough to see the little screen, giving Ben plenty of room. Thierry- "There are a lot of files - more wire stories than these, em, packets? Perhaps we should use the search function of this GUI."

Marie- "A search function? Just search for 'mummies'."
Thierry- "Search for 'mummies' or 'mummy', if you will." Fifteen files came back. Combing them quickly, they determined that most of them only referenced Gutless Boy as possibly behind the troubles. Two were different and directly relevant. One was a .pkt file with Gutless Boy's video and a bunch of relevant notes, some about the FBI and some about King 5.
The other was something else entirely. It was in German and included a video file. Thierry started the TV up. Thierry- "Do we want to see our mummy terrorist's video again to refresh our memories, or check out the other information in that packet, or maybe look at the video in this other file?"
Seth- "Eh, I think we all saw enough of that, didn't we? We could always watch it off Stevie's TiVo later. I think we're all gettin' antsy here... At least me, haha..."
