Susie approached the quaking rolled up blanket, with Bryce perched on top of it. Jackson stood nearby. Susie- "He's--he's...?"
Jackson- "When we figure out how to de-possess this guy, he's gonna be sore, but he's okay. Uh, as can be expected."
Susie- "This is all, it's just crazy! So horrible! First Kenny, and now Davin said there was zombies in the building! How--how did they get in?! Did someone just leave the door open?! I don't understand!" She sobbed, and Jackson offered his strong, tattooed shoulder for her to cry on, next to the bucking, muffled, ree-hee-hee-ing bundle.
She noticed Bryce's tears after a moment. Susie- "I'm so sorry I got you involved in this Bryce, are you okay?"

Bryce- "No, what else was I gonna do? Almost falling out the window was the coolest part."
Zadokhis the Somethin' Somethin'- "We can have more fun if you loosen my bonds a little! Or maybe I'll just chew my own head off?! WATCH ME BURN!"
Bryce- "Might be worth the risk to stick a cork in you, motherfucker!" Bryce felt like he was just prolonging the inevitable at this point. What would Seth's zombie look like when it came in the door? Or would it be his ghost?

Susie- "Shut up Kenny! Or--whatever! Just shut up!"
Ol' Whathisface- "Come shut me up, baby! HU HU HUH!"
Susie- "That doesn't even make sense!"
Jackson- "Bryce, maybe you should give that a break, I'll sit on that mess for a while."
Ol' Whathisface- "I'll sit on YOUR MESS for awhile! HA HA HA!"
Susie- "That's stupid! Shut up!"
Ol' Whathisface- "YOU'RE STUPI--"
Jackson- "Damn it demon, don't make me get some holy water up on your ass."
Susie- "Well anyway, I'm just glad he's.... sort of okay. I can't thank you guys enough! I'm sure this will all be fine, looks like everyone's taking care of things."

Jackson assumed the demon containment duties and spared Susie and Bryce for a little sit down. They went to a couch and huddled together - the cold night air sucking the heat out of the place rapidly. Bryce- "How much longer...?"
Susie put her arm around him, trying to not look at the writhing bundle across the room. Susie- "I bet everything will be better by day time. Everything will be fine."
Bryce- "...That's the sort of thing people are supposed to say no matter what. How could it be fine?"
Susie- "Well I mean, obviously not fine... but I mean, I think everyone will be okay. I mean, even with-- y'know, Kenny. We're all okay, so probably everyone else too."
Bryce- "Did you see that red-haired possessed lady? She went out that window and there's nothing to keep her from coming back in. It's just one more thing..."
Susie sighed, and gave Bryce a knowing look.Susie- "I guess I can't convince you of it. Well, we all gotta just do our best. Maybe we can go see if anyone needs our help, or we can move furniture in front of that window. What do you think?"
Bryce- "Yeah, blocking the window is a good damn idea." Bryce knew it was a waste - prolonging the inevitable, etc etc, but that horrible lady coming back in the window would be an appalling way to die. He'd take his chances at scratching that possibility off the list.

After a knock at the door, Ben, Anna, and Stevie were let in by Susie. Ben noted as they came into the living room that there were heavy bookshelves over their planned point of egress, but that was easy enough to rectify. Susie- "What's going on guys? What's all that stuff for? Tying up Kenny better?"

Ben- "No, we're going to do someting crazy. We're going to climb down to the street and take them from behind." Ben knew their plan was insane now. So many ghosts. There had to be a whole swarm outside, out in the darkness. Though he supposed that it could be possible that they had all gathered inside, looking through the empty rooms, and getting burned in the occupied apartments.

Susie- "That's fucking bonkers, guys! Don't do it!"
Anna- "We gotta do it. I mean, to keep from dying of boredom if nothing else." Stevie gave Susie a sympathetic look and got to work.

Ben- "Yeah. All these ghosts that we had to burn on this floor. So boring. I wonder if there are any demons crawling on the outside of the walls?" Ben was exercising his deadpan sarcasm. The kind that is often mistaken for the person simply being crazy, stupid or genuinely evil. The kind where the most offensive things can be said just to be absurd. He'd mostly learned to not do that, because it rarely worked as intended. But in these dire circumstances, who gave a crap?

As they worked on the rope, everyone became acquainted with the plans in turn, and expressed their incredulity. Bryce actually laughed.
Jackson insisted Ben take some time out to receive first aid on his ouchies, which he administered in the kitchen while Ben held a torch and sat on the counter. The hydrogen peroxide in his wounds did not feel good, but it was comforting to think he was finally doing something about possible infections. Jackson wrapped him in gauze and gave him an oversized collared shirt Derek had left behind. That man must have had long arms.

Ben- "Thanks, man. Safer to be clawed by someone possessed than someone dead, I guess. I don't even want to think about what kind of rot would enter through zombie-scratches."

Jackson- "You know it, buddy. Are you really gonna do this crazy thing over here..?"

Ben- "Afraid so. It should work in theory, but I've never climbed down anything as high as this." Though if both Anna and Stevie thought it was doable, then who was Ben to argue? These two people always seemed to know their stuff. He just never thought that rappelling was covered in 'stuff that Stevie knows'.
With help from the others in the apartment it didn't take as long as Ben had expected to tie the bedsheets together, and the electrical cords were tied alongside, providing a backup in case the bedsheets would actually tear somewhere. Then they tied the whole thing to the leg of the ruined couch, which was set right next to the window. The first climber would be able to rely on the weight of at least one person to keep the couch from getting pulled up and possibly tip and release the rope from its leg, but while that climber made it down, the plan was to gather some heavy stuff to weigh the couch down, in case people in the apartment got busy doing something else.
Something like, oh, say, managing the telekinetic Zadokhis! To make damn sure that he wouldn't mess around with their setup, they moved him to Derek's vacant bedroom. Jackson kept him in check, with Susie keeping Jackson company and looking for ghosts.
In the living room the real adventure began! Ladies first, or age before beauty?

Bryce saw them off before disappearing into the room with Jackson, Zadokhis, and Susie. Bryce- "Good luck jumping out the window, you crazy ass freaks."
Stevie- "Cheers, kid. Kanpai!"

Ben- "So who goes first?" Ben looked out the window, trying to see what was out there.

The empty night air whipped at him. A few zombies in the street looked disinterested, perhaps relatively blind in the dark. Stevie- "Age before beauty. I'm up!" He set his sword on the window sill, awkwardly, nerve wrackingly climbed out the window, then grabbed the sword again, tucking the scabbard into the back belt of his bathrobe. He began to descend!
Anna and Ben looked at each other in amazement at their own craziness, then watched him as he continued down...
