Gerald - "Jesus!" Using touch I went into the slick water with the key to free Timothy's ankles. We weren't getting past whatever that was as we were. I took him to my side and got ready to dodge.

As you pulled at the ankle cuffs, they just fell apart. Somehow they'd corroded in the brackish water.
The denting metal burst in spaces-- letting hot air escape into the freezing
chamber in billowing steam. Tim was a wreck, just sobbing helplessly. A red
light began flashing through the corridor -- some kind of emergency lights had
flashed on, lighting the way to an alcove you swore wasn't there before.
The two of you barely dodged another blow to the metal as the impacts
followed you. A big door at the end of the alcove was painted over with
peeling paint-- SACRIFICIAL DOOR
GIVE ME BLOOD
There was no visible handle, lock or hinges.

Gerald - "Mills! Listen to me. What is this?"

Timothy- "Wha-- ahh-- uh, you're not going to...?!" His eyes were totally wild and he edged away from you, but was too afraid to go far.

My voice was slightly raised to compete with the bending metal and crashing water, but it was still firm.Gerald - "I'm not going to what? Talk to me, Mills."

Timothy- "You're not going to hurt me? You said you'd protect me!" He had the world's whiniest voice as he too shouted over the crashing metal.

Gerald - "I can't protect anyone if you keep moving away. Why would I hurt you?"

The floor of the hallway was giving out, the water sizzling as it poured into whatever hell pit lay beneath. Tim looked between you and the wreckage before
he flung himself at the door, palms out. Some kind of mechanism whirred to life,
and rows of tiny barbs emerged from the flat paint. Tim let out a cry of pain as
his palms were pierced-- and his blood trickled between the barbs-- flowing down
to a little tray that emerged to catch it.
Click-click... The door popped as it was unlocked, parting a half an inch. Tim pulled
his hands away with a sob, dozens of little red dots forming on their surface.
The floor beneath you was shaking, dipping and listing to one side.

A trap!Gerald - "Timothy!" Then the doors parted. So, that message was literal? What is this?Gerald - "I don't know what's beyond those doors, but we need to go." I put my hand on Timothy's shoulder. It was time to move.

He whimpered as you pulled him through the door and onto solid concrete--
thankfully, as the last of the metal floor buckled into jagged shards and some
unbearable heat below. The door closed behind you tidily, with a pleasant little click.
You found yourself standing on the lower tier of the ship's deck. No one was
around, no voices, nothing but the creaking of the boat and the rush of the river
and the wind. The sky was a vivid blood red.

What in God's name was happening? Gerald - "How did we- Wait. Nothing in the report mentioned... Of course it wouldn't. Alright. If we're going to get through this, I need you to tell me everything you know."

Mills was fussing about his injured palms, which weeped blood like little polka dots. Timothy- "It's grandma's house. I'm so sorry... Maybe it would be better to just die. I can help you if you want to--" He cut himself off and shook his head."You'd be safer without me. You'd be safer if you didn't know. You seem alright. You'd never snitch on me, yeah?"

Gerald - "We'll be safer if we stick together." I unlocked his wrist cuffs, hoping that wasn't a mistake.Gerald - "If there's anything I've ever learned it's better to have the other man's back."

Mills looked completely stunned. Timothy- "Wow, um... thanks..."
He flexed his injured hands and wiggled his fingers like he hadn't used them in years. "Something's after me and everyone is in on it. You probably are too, but I don't got any other options."
He sounded a little strange-- that adult voice.

At this point, after what I've seen, I do believe Mills. I wanted him to face time for his actions, but the law didn't touch this place. We needed to get out of here to see things through. Gerald - "Let's talk about options. What can 'Grandma' do here? What is she?"
