What the-- Just like that, a big blob of sleet lands straight on your forehead and drips into your eyes. As you blink it away-- it's nothing. Of course. She has nothing on her back, just a dark blazer rippling in the wind. What the hell... Something seems a bit off about it still. What do you tell yourself?
((You don't take any stability loss but something about it feels a little weirder than a trick of the light.))

I smear the sleet out of my eyes, and shake my head.
I don't feel quite right about any of that but maybe I was starting to get a migrane or something. I decide not to think about it. After all, talking about demons on people's back is liable to get me into trouble.

((While I've got you (mwahaha) let's go ahead and get her inside the house. I'll separate this out into different threads later.))
There was a lot of hustle and bustle to get to the front door of the house, and out of the sleet. At least it put that weird thought out of your mind. You had to push past some looky-loos to get onto dry land. Another cop patted you down before you were allowed in the front door of the house.
And then there you were-- the house from the photos. Even with all the traffic, all the people trampling through and the smell of wet asphalt-- there was a sickly odor here. Like mildew and old meat. The carpet had been utterly shredded for evidence, the walls scraped down, even chunks cut out of the furniture. But this had been someone's house once. The hole in the environment told a story of their own. That patch near the door must've been where the dog was. That faint ghost of a stain on the back wall was where the father was... A family had sat in this living room watching television together, they'd come home from work and school and spent time here. Now you were here, and all these cops and strangers. How did you feel about entering people's homes this way?

Harriet- I'm used to it by now, but I still feel the odd echos of life in this place. There is nothing new to see, or at least that's what I tell my brain as I scan about for anything that might have been missed as I push the emotional elements of my return to the household to the back of my mind.
There is so much here to take in.
I replay the events in my mind and try to imagine them in the space. It helps me understand what I read, and I walk through step by step.

I parked across the street. Before getting out, I turn on my voice recorder and place it in the pocket of my Tom Ford peacoat. I straighten my tie and get out of the car, putting on my coat against the cold. I stride purposefully across the street, towards the reporters.

Indeed, they caught sight of you and were upon you in an instant.Reporter- "Mr. Brandeis-White! Sources have said you are planning a tour of the Bedford crime scene with the suspect Timothy Mills. Is this correct?”

It was a struggle, even for a nice guy like me, to not mock them for asking such a ridiculous question, as I stood here on the lawn of the crime scene. I put on a polite but serious expression.Ryan-- "Yes, it is. I'm here with my client, to protect him from overreach by the authorities. This railroad case and their so-called 'leak' has been designed to disadvantage Mr. Mills in the eyes of the jury pool prior to trial."

Reporter- "Mr. Brandeis-White, you are a highly educated and promising young lawyer, what made you decide to work in Detroit? And why did you take on this case?" She had a strange tone in her voice, maybe it was just the thrill of getting the hot tip to be here, or maybe the rush of getting in her questions before they got booted.

Ryan-- "You must not be from around here. Detroit is an amazing city of resilient and amazing people. Sure, hard times have come, but this city will persevere. It's an amazing place to live and practice the law."
"Mr. Mills, like every American and Michigander, is entitled to a fair trial. It became apparent through the media flames being stoked by public officials, that they intended to try my client in the public eye rather than court. I did not feel that a public defender, even the most honorable, was prepared to handle this case."

Reporter- "It's a very interesting case, to be sure. Why did Timothy Mills feel willing to speak today? Why now after all these weeks?"

Ryan-- "Mr. Mills, Tim, has had a difficult life and a difficult year. Being pounced upon by law enforcement and being persecuted without trial has been nearly crippling. he has suffered regular abuse in prison, where protective custody is, frankly, a very bad joke. To be honest, I am not entirely certain Tim was given a choice about whether or not to cooperate with this circus."

Ryan-- "It's hard to say. Perhaps, given the opportunity to relive the actual events, rather than those spoonfed to him by the detectives, Tim will be able to provide valuable insight into the true crimes. Or, perhaps, we may get a better idea of why the statements of Officer Butcher have changed, moreso than my client's. One would hope that the shifting story is unrelated to his recent promotion to Detective."

Reporter- "Oh, that's very insightful... Would you like to make a statement to the public about this case?"
