Edmund- ”Sorry again, mam. It was poor humor. Exactly Joe. I don’t think for a moment body switching is a thing, let alone Mills was impersonating a cop this whole time. He might think so however. It’s still difficult to determine his exact psychological state right now. That lawyer has him under tight wraps at the moment. ”

I took the bait and redirected my simmer.
Detective Colt- "That lawyer... Thinks he's gonna Alan Dershowitz this shit. I can not wait for this day to end."

Detective Butcher- "Yeah there are a lot of real characters here today. I forget who all is going with us. The lawyer, of course. Think some kind of support staff, forensics... Hope it's not too big of a crowd.

Edmund- ”Indeed. I am looking forward to meeting them... Some may end up in my book. Hopefully it's not too intimidating for Mills.
Mr. B-White is a young buck, already a junior partner. He must be very keen to prove himself. All vim and vigour but perhaps lacking experience. Such as the experience to know a psychologist's testimony can be invaluable in court. Though nothing is going to save Mills from being found guilty. It's surely the only option. Do you think William will be found tonight, mam? ”

Detective Colt- "A goddamn zoo... And for nothing. Well, family closure if we find the body, but I doubt that'll happen."

Detective Butcher- "Good to be optimistic but... Well, I'll leave it at that. I do feel like something's going to happen. He wouldn't even speak to us before, now he's willing to go out? Has to be a reason..."

Edmund- ”Hopefully tonight will be a positive breakthrough for him. Perhaps revisiting the scene will bring him back to reality about what he did. A lot of his current behaviours could be attributed to some kind of shock. Sometimes when people reach a certain escalation, they stop thinking like you and I. They become more primal. Hopefully it doesn't just feed his delusions tonight but we shall see. It will make it easier for everyone, if he sees the truth. Does William Bedford have any surviving relatives? ”

Detective Colt- "The reason is to play us out. Load for bear, Joe... Yeah the Bedfords had family. I'll try to keep them in mind."

Detective Butcher- "I don't think grandma and gramps are probably holding out too much hope at this point either... I think it'll be good for all of us to the see the back of this one."

Edmund- ”I hope it's cathartic for you also, Joe. Closes the door on the trauma for you. It sounds like you don't really want to come though, Detective Colt. Now you knew Mills before all this, right? What was he like? Was he always this way? ”

Detective Colt- "Not so much that I don't wanna come as I don't think any of us should be doing this. But yeah, I think Mills was always like this. He lied to me, deadass, nonstop, totally smooth. And what was he lying about? Creepy messed up shit."

I made a mental note. It wasn't some mental break. Poor man had always had a mental illness. That was a problem with schizophrenia, people didn't always realise they believed all their delusions. To them it wasn't a lie.Edmund- "I definitely would like to sit down with you detective Colt. After all this and pick your mind. My grandfather had Alzheimer's, he was an aggressive man beforehand and it turned him into a baby. The new him was much easier to live with. So it's hard to know whether it's better or worse to know people before their illness. Although perhaps it's something Mills always had. Hard not to with a mother like his. None of us may have been here if he had had a normal upbringing."

I approached the group. It wasn't too hard to pick out the doctor from the detectives.Ryan-- "Excuse me, sorry. Detectives, do you mind if I borrow the doctor for a minute? I need him to check out my client. I'm not sure he's up to this; he seems either heavily drugged or, um, dissociating.
