Dr. JarHi Jara, we can start talking here about your character. What ideas do you have off the bat? Sounds like your character is going to be a pretty noble person, is that true? How does your character feel about justice? Maybe they are still young and idealistic, or they've actually managed to hold onto that motivation later into their career. I don't have any particular requirements, other than they probably be mid twenties or older. By the way, you don't need to answer immediately, this all could just be food for thought.

I decided my character will be Harriet Gray, 29 She is a short, driven African American woman. She feels like justice is in short supply for those that need it most, like members of her community. Harriet is jaded but cautiously optimistic, however she has been frustrated by the system and aims to illuminate the truth and avoid false incarceration as best she can.

Very cool so far. This case will probably feel pretty charged for her. The neighborhood is only 10% white, the accused is one of them, and one of the victims included a little black girl. It was probably happenstance as she was a neighbor of the rest of the victims. She tends to be forgotten when people think of the crime, everyone focusing on the white victims and the little missing white boy. In fact, her body was found hidden away in a closet, like she was even forgotten by the killer. However, the crime was considered so open and shut-- a photo of the accused covered in blood was even shown on TV-- that everyone in the world is presuming he's guilty. In fact he's often referred to as 'the killer' before he's even confessed. Occam's razor would suggest that his being guilty is obvious, but has everyone considered all the facts thoroughly? How do you think she'd feel about all that? I'll give you more details on what she knows about the case later on.

She'd be skeptical that justice was done, since it seems like most of the evidence is circumstantial, and like many of these cases, the actual killer may still be roaming around biding his time.
She is only CSI but would be spending time combing all of the clues from every murder to make sure nothing was missed and to ensure that everything added up.

She sounds very cool-headed. Does she have any experience with a miscarriage of justice? Maybe knew someone who was wrongfully accused or imprisoned?

She has known several people who were wrongfully accused and imprisoned, mostly through community knowledge, and aims to right this wrong. Her own mother was imprisoned for drug-related charges(rightfully, though the punishment was excessive), and she grew up with her father and step mother. She hopes to improve the quality of criminal justice, and understands that more structural changes need to happen before they see resolution.

So far so good! What's Harriet's life like outside of work? Does she live with anyone, or have a partner? Does she bring her work home with her or does she have a good way to unwind? Does her work interfere with her private life?

Harriet lives alone, and tends to bring her work home with her. She doesn't really leave work due the nature of what tends to go on.

How do you think she feels about the supernatural? Does she have any spiritual beliefs? Oh and do you have a photo you might like to use for her avatar? I think we'll draw simple versions of them when the game starts, tho if you want to draw your own that's cool too!

I think this will be a very interesting case for her. Now in the Kult system they usually have a 'dark secret', where the characters are haunted by something, often something they did. I'm not going to enforce those rules, but I'd like to know something she hasn't told even her closest friends. You can tell me privately if you want it to be a secret.

She secretly resents her mother for conforming to criminal stereotypes and not being a part of her life, and hates her stepmother, despite the fact she raised her. She also feels conflicted for being a part of an imperfect system that she feels has done her people wrong.

Strengths: Morally righteous, analytical, rigorous, bold, unafraid to speak her mind, tough, good with a pistol
Weaknesses: Emotional, short-fused, physically diminutive and weak, a little clumsy.
