Indea and I have been discussing making playlists for the game. I've been meaning to add on to the NPC profiles by including their favorite musicians. I'd like to create a playlist for each clique, and of course, a soundtrack for the school dance. Ideas anyone? What horrible music did they play at your high school dances? We can modify based on what was actually out, IE No "Humpty Dance" tragically.

Suyoi was an inspiration with his "holding out for a hero" line. That being said, Bonnie Tyler. There was actually a Bonnie Tyler song (Total Eclipse of the Heart, not Holding out for a Hero) playing at my prom, even though it was in the 2000's. The rest was rap and country music, so I dunno how well that translates to the eighties. But seriously. Once upon a time, I was falling in love ... now I'm only falling apart! There's nothing I can do!! A total eclipse of the hearrrt.

Ahh, Bonnie Tyler, who's vocal complication became her ticket to stardom!
As for songs, please put on some George Michael "Faith!" and some "Little Lies" I think by FWM. Duran Duran and Eurythmics... I have had a conversation with the pharmacists and I often am asked if I'm being serious. I simply reply by singing "Would I Lie to You?" and start shaking my mock shoulder pads.
And did A-ha have their hit out at that point? Sorry. I just love me some cheesy 80s pop. And I have a playlist devoted to 80s that I play on Youtube with my roommate when we play Left 4 Dead 2 which he HATES. For example, when a Spitter caused a huge pool of acid to melt him, Modern English came on. And then, when I accidentally whacked him with a katana, Boy George crooned, "Do you really want to hurt me?" I think he threw some dice at me.
But, I think maybe some Depeche Mode is a must... and the various one-hit-wonders. OH! And, the theme from Flash Dance!
EDIT: Eurythmics, "Love is a stranger!" That is my life theme right there sadly!

Oh mah gawd. You guys are just trying to be our BFFs aren't you? Christopher is a rabid Bonnie Tyler fan. In our record collection, he only has one record, and Bonnie Tyler is it. Great choices you guys! I'm slowly going through and adding favorite music to our NPCs, which requires more research than I thought. @_@ Our american high school students have almost exclusively British bands as their faves because that's mostly what I know. OH WELLZ. ;D BTW, would you guys prefer Spotify playlists, youtube playlists or something else?

I think spotify could work best. Hmm I understand the soft spot for 80's pop. I gotta say I do like me some Adam and the ants and U2's later stuff is pretty solid. Siouxsie and the banshees, Billy Idol is also a must . Apart from those, my tastes in 80's music is pretty much the five for my character: The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Queen, The Cure and Echo and the Bunnymen. @kelly- Britain was where it was at in the 80's though. I had a look at hits of the year: "Funkytown"-Psuedo Echo "Walk like an egyptian"- The bangles "You keep me hangin' on"- Kim wilde "La bamba"- Los lobos etc hahahahaha EDIT:( I just ) Died in your arms- Cutting Crew, I freaking love that song!! EDIT:EDITT: Tainted love -Soft Cell, oh yeah ;D.

I should be able to name some stuff, because, even though I was still in elementary school in 87, my sister and mother listened to Kasey Kasem's Top 40 every weekend, but I don't.
I've never even heard of Bonnie Tyler.
1987 was before Richard Marx... before Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and its atrocious soundtrack (did anyone else know that Bryan Adams is a multi-award winning fashion photographer?)... Probably too early in 87 for Rick Astley...
Yeah, I don't have much. If I have a breakthrough, I will be sure to share it.

@ Brett - Neva heard of Bonnie Tyler??? But she became internet famous in 2009 for the music video spoof "Total Eclipse of the Heart: Literal Video Version"!
@ Kelly - We're all BFFFs! Best forum friends foreva! OH B Tyler!! Her Greatest Hits CD was the first I ever bought as a child (well, I bought both Greatest Hits and some Van Cliburn classical piano at the same time during summer camp). Until then, the only music I ever listened to was opera and other stuff my dad had in his record collection. When I hear Tyler sing, it's like a portal opens and this amazon lady riding on an armored horse that breathes fire charges through my brain. So cool.

Haha DK, I need to get Christopher on here so he can fanboy with you, he'd love it. Anyone have any ideas of what the library girls would listen to? I'm stumped. Maybe like the Labyrinth soundtrack and the Eurythmics??

Thanks Kristi, great picks! Haha I got some of these already, perfect. I've got a proto Alt/Art kids list here: Let me know if that doesn't work! If you have Spotify you should be able to modify it, and add to it and such. (I think.) So far in no order in particular, I just put shuffle on. It's super fun to have Skinny Puppy follow Madonna.

Forcing self to stop posting music now or else I know I'll do this for hours or something crazy. A lot of stuff on there like Dead Can Dance is really good Alt/Art stuff, but it's worth mentioning that Duran Duran was pretty much the Justin Beiber/Backstreet Boys of the eighties and was thought of in many circles as "lame". Madonna was essentially the Britney Spears or Lady Gaga of the eighties. Her sexiness may win over some potential critics the way Spears or Gaga does. Duran Duran on the other hand had no chance being a boy band. Interesting how trends are like that, huh? ;D

Hahaha, good point Kristi. I figure that Heather Collins is kind of a weirdo for not caring about liking some tacky things, so I threw them on there for good measure. Lucy is secretly into them too, but knows it's not cool. I was SO SAD Like a Prayer didn't come out until 1989, it would have been so perfect. ;O; PS these links are great! I know what you mean though, I spent a few hours doing this instead of something slightly more productive. SIGH!
