I don't think you should feel boring or vanilla because your a fan of fidelity, that seems pretty strange to me. Dude, respect and loyalty are for squares, don'tchaknow? That's right, I need to be more like cool people like Kesha or Britney Spears, or like the Aussie icon Shane Warne. He's a top bloke, totes cool and hip, he put the sex in text. Actually he probably thinks he did, I doubt the guy can actually spell. DKender- Yay for finding a copy. I watched it at the cinema during the Melbourne film festival a few years back, but I downloaded it recently*cough* through a certain internet site that rhymes with pirate bay.

Watched it! Watched Martin! It was definitely a character-driven movie (and driven well, at that), but the suspenseful scenes were top notch, too, and I enjoyed it. Also teehee boobs. The seventies were a time of fragile, almost sickly vampire sorts. I totes enjoyed this more than Warhol's Blood for Dracula, though.
I dunno if what I'm about to say can be considered a spoiler. It's regarding Martin's personality. So, warningish?
Funny that the housewife said Martin reminded her of a cat, because he kinda reminded me of a cat, too. Not particularly social, but demonstrating bouts of friendliness or affection. And of course the hunting ...

@dk- Yeah definitely cat-like, you kind of took to him though. Despite his behaviour, there was a great innocent quality to him.
It's not hard to beat Blood for Dracula hahaha. Those movies were err interesting to say the least. I preferred Flesh for Frankenstein, that work was so bad it was brilliant! My favourite line was "to know death, Otto, you have to fuck life... in the gall bladder!", it had me literally laughing until I had tears in my eye.

DKender- It's ages since I saw it but yes, I'm pretty damn sure it was the uncensored version. There were scenes I saw that I'm pretty sure wouldn't be included in the censored version. Surely that version would only go for 40 minutes?

In case anyone is interested in serial killer horror, the TV adaptation of Hannibal is pretty damned good. Laurence Fishburne is underwhelming, but Hugh Dancy and especially Mads Mikkelsen are brilliant. The set design and cinematography paint a perfectly creepy mood and that is enhanced by the script and acting.
If you watch it, start at the beginning. It's a re-imagining of the story, with Lector being a consultant to the FBI and a friend of Wil Graham. I highly recommend it.

I should also add that the show is shockingly graphic for network television. It would be in place on HBO or Showtime, but it seems very risque for the networks.

Thanks for posting in a long-neglected area of the forum! Shame I have nothing to say about this subject at this time.

I have something to say, by gawsh! I've seen a few episodes, and Mads does a great job with his role - he owns it and steps out of Hopkins's shadow easily. Also, I appreciate that the Hannibal character's cruelty isn't glossed-over (COUGH like in Hannibal Rising COUGH).
FYI, an old roomie of mine was one of those people who falls in love with serial killers, and she wanted Hannibal to be her fantasy boyfriend or something. She used to play the movies once a month, just about. So that's why I know so much about that series, even though it's not my usual fare.

I know it's not really horror, but fantasy, but I was curious if anyone else has watched Grimm. It was one of those situations where a TV show concept was leaked and two broadcasts came out with similar concepts the same season (the other in this case being Once Upon a Time).
I've only seen a few episodes of OUaT, but it seemed pretty soapy, whereas Grimm is pretty gritty. Also, for the most part, the acting and chemistry on Grimm is pretty darned good.
Anyhow, it's a show Marissa and I enjoy and I was curious if anyone else watched it.

I've seen Grimm. It's okay but I don't find it particularly gritty, it tries too hard. It was too formulaic to keep me interested, you always knew some creature would be involved with a crime and do that face thing in front of the main guy. I don't know, the main character lacks charisma, his sidekick is way more interesting.

I don't know, the main character lacks charisma, his sidekick is way more interesting. Absolutely. Silas Weir Mitchell kind of steals the show sometimes (most of the time). Even his sidekick's girlfriend steals the show when they're on the screen together. They could've done better with casting the main character. After all, he did get his start in the industry as a contestant on the Real World. Gritty definitely wasn't the word I was looking for. Mostly I was trying to distinguish it from the soap-opera-esque feel I got from the other show. I think I generally appreciate a broader range of TV than most people do, and this show might get extra props for not being like everything else on TV right now. I can't really complain about formulaic. I've watched sooo many movies and TV shows, plus my BA in film production, I can usually pick out the "twists" of any show in the first ten minutes and identify the bad guy in crime dramas in the first fifteen. If I judged shows based on that, I wouldn't like any of them. Which might be a good thing, I dunno.

This worth a look, saw it ages ago. A bit B grade as you can tell, quite gritty. I was reminded of it when watching a not so recommended film, The Revenant. It had good concepts but lacked cohesion in the kind of film it wanted to be. It got ruined by the director trying to make it undead meets Hangover. The ending was pretty awesome though.

Oh, man, maaan, this brings back sentimental memories. Jara and I watched it when we were baby undergrads. I spent the whole movie thinking about zompocalypse ocean transport vectors, thanks to that initial scene (which is in the trailer) involving a beach zombie.

Has anybody here seen the film "May" (2002)? I want to discuss it, but none of my IRL acquaintances have seen the movie.
