Hi guys,
I've been wanting to start archiving the Subpar game for a long time, and in a fit of insomnia, I've begun! I'd really appreciate your help in doing this, as I tried doing some of it myself and exploded. So first, let me explain what I've started doing here...
I did a search by date, and pasted in all the posts in the order they were posted. This was to avoid weird temporal shifts as people went in and out of locations. This does have a big flaw, sometimes people were slower at posting, and their posts were out of order. I tried to fix some of this, but I've surely missed a lot of it.
I also tried to put in tags when it was your post. However, I didn't tag the ones the GMs did because... I forgot. To find yr posts, search for >>MICAH or >>PATTI etc. Also, feel free to do any subtle edits to retired player's characters like Doctor Victor, Ben, or Nat. (Fixing pics, tags etc.)
NOTE-- please don't edit other active player's stuff, unless it's to fix blockquotes, or other simple problems.
ALSO-- please don't edit NPC dialog or text, in the same way. Do not delete GM text. Put a note if you suggest it.
I'd like you to feel free to edit your own posts in particular, including any changes to tone, or ways to retcon something minor you didn't like. Sometimes our characters changed as we played, and we may like to have them acting more appropriately when we first started. It's totally cool to do that, as long as it's not super dramatic, to plot-changing degrees or in ways that make NPC responses erroneous. You may still end up needing an NPC to change their reaction, so put a note >>GM RESPONSE -- CHANGED DIALOG! etc.
I encourage you to expand on early posts, add elements you later discovered about your characters. Please remember to keep player/character knowledge separate, and don't make your character psychic or unusually observant. (I can totally tell that guy's gonna dieeee etc)
Maybe if you're comfortable, try changing any new things you add to a different color, like pink or yellow or whatever, so people can see the new things you added! I know I'd really like to read what u guys add.
I've got a backup on my computer so we can always revert if need be. If you make significant changes, please put in a note like ((EDIT-- CHANGED CHARACTER'S BIRTHDATE)) or whatever.
Another important note--
If you're working on a post, first, put a big note on top
HELLO I'M WORKING ON THIS!
or whathaveyou, so we don't overwrite each other's work. Also, don't leave an open edit thread for extended periods of time without saving it.
Now-- what we could use help with...
Some of it is very obvious, broken tags, typos, images, etc. I tried to fix some of it, and a lot of the work in chapter one is done. I'll list some of the less obvious stuff.
* Any instances of the old 'tab' code, that I've mostly tried to delete but probably forgot a few.
* For broken images/links, if it's not obvious how to fix it, just put a note about it for now. <<BROKEN IMAGE etc
* delete unnecessary OOC conversations from yourself unless it's hilarious
Now for the more complex issue, here is the formatting I'd like to achieve, to keep everything consistent. This has been our GM style, and I'd really prefer if we can keep it up.
CORNFLOWER BLUE AND ITALICS--
So, one of the most obvious things-- for player action, internal thoughts etc, italicize the text, and put it in cornflower blue. The easiest way to do this is to select, and click the appropriate CB & I buttons. However, one issue is that the text may already have italics included, for emphasis etc. In these cases, please change the old italics tags to bold, so they still stand out in the field of italics.
It may be easier for you to copy/paste the beginning and ending code in, or to do it manually. Be careful for hanging tags if you do it this way.
IMPORTANT NOTE-- giant blocks of blue, like the character origins, I've decided to leave un-italicized for ease of reading. I'll let you make those judgement calls.
FORMATTING DIALOG--
This is the way I like to do character images/dialog.
So, for each instance of your character talking, I like to include their image, on the next line, the character's name followed by a hyphen, and then the dialog in quotations. For example...
You don't need to put a picture if there is a break, then more dialog very shortly. For example...
If another character has spoken between, please include a photo each time.
BLOCKQUOTES-
Above, I've done it the way I prefer. The image, name and dialog are all in a blockquote, with the blue text outside. The code looks like this...
[ blockquote][ img src="http://www.borfy.com/Kingfisher/Graphics/KFA/kfa-subp-pc-micah.jpg" alt=" "]
Micah-
"Blah blah."[ /blockquote]
((without the spaces after the first bracket))
Blockquotes always go on the outside of the code! Imagine them as parentheses.
If there were more dialog right after, from another character for example, keep them all in the same blockquote. If there is a very short bit of blue text, you may decide to include it right next to the dialog without ending the blockquote. For example...
I used the italics and blue, but kept it inside the blockquote.
Something that's not normally an issue, but I noticed happening more in the early posts, were people writing in a more prose-y way, as opposed to the typical GM style, which is more like a script. So for example, you might have a post like this...
***
Micah walked into the room, and upon noticing the hot pockets on the table, he became extremely agitated. He said, "I'm completely outraged right now." But how was he to know, the hot pockets were actually delicious. "Oh," he mumbled, "I guess that's okay if they're broccoli and cheddar."
***
That can be a bit of a mess to edit. Here's my suggested way.

Micah walked into the room, and upon noticing the hot pockets on the table, he became extremely agitated.
I made some calls to remove the 'he mumbled' direction, and let the dialog speak for itself, but that is of course up to you as you edit your own work. If your post originally started with an image, and you move the image further down into the post, make sure the first part of your post starts with "Micah went into the room" rather than "he went into the room," so we know who's doing what.
You might also get something like
"Oh okay," Patti said to Micah.
You might try this...
For your character's portraits, please use the ones that were current, like sadly, the expressionless ones from the beginning here. Later I'd like to touch them up and add the basic expressions, but for now let's keep them the same.
Okay, that out of the way, here's the REALLY TRICKY PART!!!
>>TEMPORAL ISSUES
As I said earlier in this post, I tried putting these posts together by when they were posted. I also tried to fix any obvious things, but there are gonna be weird issues. Especially as characters went from room to room, they may have actually bent time. For example, someone might have made five posts, including poking their head into a room and leaving, while the residents inside only made one post. In these cases, trust your judgment but it's not gonna be perfect. If you're not sure, maybe put a note before you do it. Feel free to reorder your own personal posts all you like!
After the first couple chapters, the specific times things happen become less important. So we'll probably keep the news studio visits in their own posts, even if other things happened simultaneously. It'll be like the parts in a movie/tv show where we're like "earlier that evening..."
SUPER IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
I've had a lot of random crashes in Chrome when I paste for some reason, so COPY AND PASTE BACKUPS OF THE ENTIRE POST YOU'RE WORKING ON INTO A NOTEPAD AS YOU GO!!! It will save you much heartache in cases of crashes or other random disasters.
If you don't feel comfortable doing any of the formatting, don't feel like you have to. Do whatever you feel comfortable with or interested in doing.
I really look forward to working w/ you guys so we'll have a cool, way more legible version of our awesome writing.
Also, ask any questions/comments you have here!
EDIT-- An idea I just had-- if you'd like to compile a version of this stuff that is your character-centric, feel free to create your own threads here! You could make one that just includes scenes your character is a part of, to make a kind of 'life story' for them.
