<<BEARBEITE -- ASSORTED EDITS>> DKender By and by, Chloë and Babette made their way to the hotel room. Chloë showed Babette a leather bound tome she'd been packing in her oversized purse. Semakov's 'On Death'
Chloë- "He wanted this book about death. Isn't it so sad?"
{Originally]The place smelled a bit funky, and was eerie with no one around. Swirls of animal fur danced in the air and an unseen mustelid stirred. Chloë was startled by a "hello?" just before she was about to do one of her own. Chloë- "Oh my gosh, it's so quiet..." She tapped on the door to a tiny bedroom, waiting outside for the go ahead. Chloë- "Hiii... I found the death book but I'll have to get the life one on hold. Ugh, that's like, poignant huh? Is it okay if Babette comes to say hi too? She's really nice!"

She felt guilty again, guilty like the night Jack died. She should have told somebody about the blondie before his rash attacks hurt so many innocent people. But that wouldn't help , right? The last time he visited, it had already been too late. Right? She didn't know. She didn't even know what she might do if they met again. Babette had steeled herself for tragedy when she decided to fight for Ru's safety.
From the outside, she added:"Yes, it's me. Hello. I can recommend some other books. About death or ... not. Uh. You've probably read them ..."

He was a little zombie-faced in bed, with the blanket over most of his body and one arm. Vitus- "Ehm... this book is fine for now, thank you."
Chloë- "Aw, look at you! Sorry, sickly boys are so cute." Vitus- "Thanks..."
She sat the book on his nightstand, and pulled up a side chair.
Chloë- "How are you doing with everything? It's so quiet here..."
((btw DK, I'm going to take over on this one so you don't need to wait for C to post.))

"Well, if you ever run out of material, I have a whole trove of gloomy romances." Babette almost sat on the edge of Chloë's chair, like two besties in high school might, but she decided to pull up her own seat at the last moment. Vitus didn't look as burny as she'd expected, but his demeanor spoke to internal trauma. O! How sad. They said time healed all wounds, but Babette wasn't sure "they" were right."How *are* you, fella?"

Vitus- "Probably better than I look? Nice of you to come. I feel like I hardly know you... I feel kind of-- this isn't the best night to be comforting me. It didn't start out all that great. I just might be better off alone."
Chloë- "Aw! We don't want to bug you. I know it's kind of like... everyone was all 'are you okay Chloë? 'when I started wearing this hat and I'm like, you know, no, but... sometimes you just want to wear a weird hat?" In thinking about it, she took the hat off.
Chloë- "Is there something you'd rather talk about?" Vitus- "I feel like, anything I think to say right now, it's just not helpful? How do you two feel about reading? Um, are you both into gloomy romances? Is this something new?"
Chloë- "Oh I love reading! I wish I had more time for it. I'm super into Ben Grunwald's work, have you read Jumprope Jungle? It's sooo sweet. I cried like fifty million times." Babette probably thought Ben Grunwald was kind of tacky, they just made a film of that book starring the latest indie darling with the big blue eyes.

"Oooh Grunwald. I need to, um, give him a shot! They always say the books are better than the movies. I hope Jumprope Jungle isn't too heartwarming, though. When I read something with a happy ending, I become envious, because that kind of happiness is not in my cards. That's why I exclusively read romances where one or more of the main characters perish. Ah. I also like books with handsome demons in them. Did you know those are real? Not the handsome part. Just the demon part."

Chloe- "Ooh, I can't read anything too scary. Especially not now... But maybe if they're really handsome..."
Vitus- "Yeah, wow... well... I read to fill my hours. Mostly inconsequential stuff, but sometimes I want to meditate on the meaning of some real literature. So, that's what this is about tonight." Chloe- "Oh yeah, the book I brought you. What's it about? Besides, um, death...?"
Vitus- "Well, really, it is just about death. It's a companion piece to the allegorical story he's more well known for - Father Wolya. It explains his philosophy about death more directly."

"Considering our unique relationship with death, are there any vampire writers or philosophers? Oh! Perhaps there are entire libraries with undead-penned works! Are there, Vitus? Are you a writer?" She supposed ghouls would count as "undead authors" too - were they really undead, though, or just creepy? Babette wasn't entirely sure, but she sure wouldn't joke about her pinky finger around Zero again!

Vitus- "I don't think I could write... I mean, I could, but I just don't think I'd bring anything to the field. How about you? As for other writers, sometimes you don't know, sometimes you do. The guy that wrote Lord Demos was not a vampire." Chloë- "Oh I read that! It's kind of long but it wasn't very scary. In a good way."
Vitus- "I think if anything, a vampire's perspective on death just confuses the issue. We have the same reality ultimately, somehow we always end up dying eventually. But we can get some silly ideas otherwise. Humans have the real insights on the issue."
Chloë- "I didn't know kids could die until I was in second grade, I was so creeped out when I found out! I never knew anyone who died before--" Chloë- "Well..." Chloë- "..."

Why did she encourage this death talk? Change the subject, before everyone cries! ;O;"So what's up with the invitation thing? If I said, 'everyone who hates the Masher is invited to my house,' would that effectively exclude Masher-loving vampires, or does it have to be more specific? Oh, the Masher is a total disreputable source of information, Vitus. Don't ever read it."

Vitus- "Uhhh it's complicated. Maybe you could ask Ellen on that, she's kind of the expert. Um... I think I should maybe get some sleep. Thanks for visiting... I hope to see you under better circumstances next time."
Chloë- "Aw, I'm sorry if I'm being a baby... I never had to think about this kind of stuff before. I guess I should have as an artist." Vitus- "Oh no, no... Nobody wants to think about this subject. I mean really, I just need to. That's the only way out-- for me. You know, different ways of being..."

Whatever medical waste she could smell was no where in evidence. The room didn't look very lived-in. Chloë- "Thanks Babette. Um, would you mind if I meet you downstairs in a minute? I just want to talk to Vitus about something..."
Vitus- "..."

"Of course! I'll see you there." She tipped her beret. Or tried. It sort of just flopped forward a bit, sliding over Babette's eyes."Erm. Right." After a bit of fumbling, Babette could see again and let herself out.
