Trevor woke with the night. This time, he heard no one else moving about. He was free from pushy parenting - for the moment. Magic books lay where he'd left them, bug legs clicked in aquaria, and all was chill with the universe.

Inka and Florence only stopped in briefly, taking note Trevor was hard at work. He practiced his spells and vampire abilities he was comfortable with (physics defying, shadow manipulation, etc.) whenever he needed a change of pace. Some of his basic spells were coming very easily now, and he didn't feel any risk or awkwardness at all moving between walls, floors, ceilings.

A few hours into his foolery, he heard a distant note of distress. Somewhere, Inka's voice was raised. It was hard to pick out individual words from inside his room. She was not nearby.

Inka's fits had always taken place during the daytime, so hearing her upset at this time was peculiar. Trevor stood from his spot on the floor and peeked out his door. Washy Wendy, who had been accompanying him as he experimented, got to straightening up and putting away ingredients soon as the makeshift work station was unattended. Trevor gave her free rein and left to investigate.

He walked through the halls until he got close enough to make out words. It wasn't far, given the acuity of his hearing at night.Inka- "...it's no good for you! Don't you see?"
Florence- "This is so... extreme. Please, come back. For your own good, really."

None of what Trevor was picking up was making sense without context. He decides to creep closer.

Inside a lounge they sometimes used for ritual magic, Trevor saw Courtney's translucent form hovering over a spirit board, while Inka and Florence tried to reason with her. Inka- "Come back, to be a ghost-thing is too sad!"
Courtney- "Yeaaah... No."
Florence- "I don't see the appeal. Why are you doing this?"
And to Trevor's mind another question could be posed - How are you doing this? She got herself into the spirit world, changed forms? Seemed beyond her.

Trevor - "Good evening. What's happening here?" ((Edit post spirit voice clarification.))

Courtney's state of mind was unreadable. Everyone present was using spirit speech though, so misunderstanding wouldn't be an issue now that he was close enough to hear it clearly. Inka- "Courtney is turned into a ghost-thing."
Courtney- "Not any weirder than turning into a vampire."
Florence- "It's much more weird. As a vampire, you can see people, be with people. The world of the dead is sad and bleak."
Courtney- "It's beautiful and clean."

Trevor - "Are you saying you're happy? That aside, how did you even manage this transformation?"

Courtney- "What do you care? Looking for some new tricks?"
Inka- "Do not speak to him in that way! He is a friend, Coortney."
Courtney- "I have a better friend. She helped me do this."
Florence- "Ghosts don't have friends, they're just shadows and lies."
Courtney- "Shows what you know."

She was a sharp one, that Courtney.
Trevor - "Are all ghosts really the same? Besides, wasn't it your spirit friend, Inka, that gave Courtney her vision? Why don't you tell us what Courtney and I don't know about undead spirits that's coloring your opinion? I don't doubt your judgement, but 'shadows and lies' is awfully vague."

Courtney moved suddenly, causing some alarm. Courtney- "Enough. I don't care. I want to go."
Inka- "No! Not yet! Erm..."
Florence- "We were talking about something."
Inka- "Ah, yes, we were saying that ghosts are boring and creepy, only a cheap imitation of a mind. A real pearsson with them for too long will become insane."
Courtney- "That's interesting coming from you."
Inka- "Ches! Be interested."
Courtney- "I meant that figuratively."

Courtney- "You know what? I'm leaving."
Inka- "Noooo! Pleas-"
Courtney- "I know you can trap me, call me, do things. Don't. I'll hate you forever."
Florence- "No-"
Courtney- "I'm out."
Florence- "One thing!"
Courtney- "...OK."
Florence- "I'll call you, say, in a few months, see how you're doing. OK?"
Courtney- "...OK. I'm gone."
Inka- "It's soooo sad! Oh, Chrevor."
Courtney- "Whateverrrrr"

Trevor - "I wonder where she's going to stay. Is it possible for her to live in the spirit world? It would be more difficult to pas as human in her state." Perhaps mittens could help?
