JASON AND ELI arrived at their new temporary home, The Old Harlan Arms.
This was one of the nicer hotels in the heart of downtown, and for sufficiently wealthy patrons,
had special rates for long stays. The Sombretas had arranged just such a stay, for Jason and Eli.
They were in a suite with three bedrooms (possibly to be joined by Jack in the near future), a living
room, a small kitchen, and two bathrooms. The master bath (adjoining the master suite) was a
large round bathtub with shower capabilities. The appointments were all neo-baroque - expensive
but not antique, with rather stiff furniture. The TV was huge and had service and the ability to
receive wireless input & a fancy sound system built into more than one wall, but no game
systems. The colors were cream and dull bronze.
Jason tossed his crapola behind a chair and flopped on a couch.
Jason-
"What the fuck now?"
Eli-
"Shit, dude. I don't know... Feels like the kind
of place we can only afford to live in for a second,
but guess we should try to settle in and relax?"
Jason-
"Yeah... Think I might wanna... Go out and shit. What about you?"
Eli-
"You think it's safe? Well, yeah, I guess that weirdo
didn't care about us kids. I think I might just chill
here and hold down the fort."
Jason-
"Yeah... Fuck that. I got my reasons. See you later, man."
Eli-
"See ya, dude. Careful out there."
Jason left quickly. Eli spent his time unpacking and then lying on the expensive sofa
feeling some type of way and composing journal entries in his head that he never wrote down.
Eventually but quite suddenly,
He was overcome by a vision of Angela's death! - and a certainty she was dead for real now.
At nearly the same time, an image of a young guy in a gory state came
over Eli, and a soft voice chirped out some confused words.
Damn it all, I just had to dilly-dally.
Wait-- oh-- oh good there it goes. Fantastic!
In the aftermath, Eli felt this shock ringing through his body.
Eli-
"Fffffffffffuck was that!?"
He flipped around on the sofa for a moment, holding his head. Could
vampires have strokes? No? He dove for his phone. Who?! He called
Vitus, maybe dude was up on vampire head injuries.
Straight to messages.
Ugh! Typical! Just learn to sext your titty ladies, fuck! He called Jack.
Straight to messages.
Okay, okay, shit! What's going on? Did everyone else die from their vamp-bolsym?
Who then? He could probably dig around in his phone for one of the 'grown-ups' but
they weren't exactly approachable. He scrolled through his contacts until he settled
on Darren. At least dude would be like, understanding?
A few rings later,
Darren-
"Sup man. Nice you call instead of that textin' shit. I hate that."
Eli-
"Oh, oh yeah, haha. Ah-- ah, so like-- nothing w-weird going on there?"
Darren-
"Whut. I dunno. No. Are you doing that Burly Bill shit again?"
Eli-
"No, man. It's like-- this was more like-- like Skuzzy Slags acid flashback
shit, dude. Like-- dude. I don't-- It was something about Sombreta, and like,
I can't get a hold of Vitus or Jack. I don't wanna-- I mean, it seems like
something that might get me in deep shit if something happened?"
Darren-
"Dammit man, make sense. What happened?"
Eli-
"Okay, so... I'm just here, by myself, chilling my ass out doing nothing.
When suddenly I get this like, hyper-realistic vision of old-timey Sombreta
getting executed and then-- like this-- OH SHIT-- oh, oh man, maybe it was that
weird kid from the other night? Anyway, I see this weird kid all bloody-faced
and saying something about something 'worked?' Then-- man, Sombreta
is dead, dude. I just know..."
Darren-
"Visions and shit? Weird kid... Fuck, I dunno. Maybe Helen would know about this."
Eli-
"But I don't wanna get in trouble with like, vampire fascists, dude. If they find
out I *knew* something... you know? Do you think she'd be safe to tell?"
Darren-
"I don't know. But I know she kinda knows about psychedelic
shit, at least."
Eli-
"Yeah-- uh, maybe tell her that I think Vitus
might be in trouble and can't get a hold of him?"
Darren-
"Fine. That doesn't sound too risky." With a sound of shuffle,
the phone changed hands.
Helen-
"Hellooo? Hello?"
Eli-
"Hi? Helen? This is, um, Eli? I had a uh-- a really bad--
um, feeling about Sombreta and I can't get a hold of Vitus
or Jack now?"
Helen-
"A feeling? Like, a premonition? A telepathic message?"
Eli-
"A... a vision? Like, that Sombreta was dead and maybe, um, that
kid from the other night? I'm just-- I have a super bad feeling."
Helen-
"OK, I tell you what. We'll look into it for you, OK honey?
I'll call Demetri, I'll go there myself. How does that sound?"
Eli-
"Okay, just-- be careful. I was there earlier but...
I don't know, maybe it's dangerous..."
Helen-
"Everything's going to be A-OK, champ. I've got to go now, OK?"
Eli-
"S-sure... Let me know what happens?"
She had already hung up, awkwardly as ever. Eli held the phone,
pondering for a moment before sending a text to Jason.
ELI:
Hey dude. Don't go to Sombreta's... got a weird feeling. Delete this after u read it.
JASON:
Yeah. She's dead right? Some kind of kid. You too?
ELI:
Fuck, dude. Yeah... This is bad shit. Go somewhere safe and stay there.
JASON:
Nobodys fucken with me here. That's some vampire shit.
ELI:
Good. Peace, bruh.
JASON:
U too dude.
He laid the phone on his chest and laid there silently, shoving his panic down as best he could.
At least he wasn't suffering from any of the horrible physical effects he'd be having as a human.
And with that, he was alone with his panic, until later...

{originally}Eli had almost immediately taken over the master bedroom, stuffing his luggage in a random corner. Jason had not a chance in hell of sleeping alone as Eli drug him into the master suite.
As the sun set, Eli awoke with a Jason in his arms.
Eli looked around the room, taking in the still-foreign view. He seemed slightly nervous, almost.

"Good evening."
Eli looked around the room, taking in the still-foreign view. He seemed slightly nervous, almost.
"...Wow, this is pretty nice, huh? This whole place, all to ourselves. No ancient vampires eavesdropping, just you and me..." He got up, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "So... You ready to go ferret-napping?"
