Vitus and Eli got into his sedan and rolled on out.{originally} Vitus- "So... other supernatural creatures?"

((Note edits on one post above.)) Vitus- "Having a lot of fun on the phone? Who are you messaging with?"
Vitus drove out of the neighborhood quickly, since they were close enough to the University District that it wasn't a good idea to monkey around locally. He seemed to have some place in mind despite not having discussed it specifically with Eli yet.

Vitus fished out his own phone, veering a bit, then passed it to Eli. Vitus- "Jason being silly I can't imagine. You on the other hand..."
Vitus- "Just some more vampires for starters, but we'll see more tonight, if we're lucky. Can you get it ringing for 'farl' on there and pass it back to me?"
Now they were rolling through the tall canyons of downtown at a casual pace, occasionally slowed by early evening traffic.

Vitus chuckled at the G-L foolery and took the phone back. Vitus- "Farley, hey! I've got another one, and I think he'll be even more interested to meet you. You in the place to be?"
Voice on other end- "Yes indeed. The hell are you guys doing with all these kids?"
Vitus- "Maybe we'll talk about that. Be there soon." 'Harlan Aldean Forum' yielded a lot of results, many that were totally irrelevant, a few that had to do with IRL venues he'd be very careful about approaching, and at last... COVENS.NET - THE LARGEST ALDEAN FORUM ON THE INTERNET!
GENERAL/REGIONAL/GLENLAND/HARLAN TOPICS -Sign-Out Sheet (a place for people to make excuses for long absences) -Politics Again (a place to discuss politics. they seemed left leaning.) -HEll is 4 REALL! (a troll's random goddite vandalism. thoroughly spanked.) -RebekaNewt's New Workings (RB's hot new spell stylings.) -Familiars (cat pics.) -Goddite Shite (a place for bitching about Godchurch oppression.) -Community Issues (questions or comments about the forum.) -What do I do...? (people seeking advice.) -Dorein is flexing with me (complaining about migraines.) -Continentals in my coven (weird foreigners are weird.)
The list of topics spanned several pages. The troll evidenced the fact membership was not strictly monitored. All he'd need to do was sign up to post.

((See edit above))
The forum's search didn't work. Eli had seen other forums using this software platform, and you pretty much had to hope Lookit was indexing them because the native search function was bullshit. Lookit's results for the other search were flooded with movies about Aldean vampires tempting strong jawed guys with pomaded locks. Winnowing functions and a bit more poking yielded a Web 1.0-assed site about monsters, written by an Aldean.CREATURES of the NIGHT by Alessin Moonstrae
When you open you're eyes to the unseen, you wil beggin to see things you never thought posibble. But hold to your faith! Many of these creatures are maline spirits that must be fougth! I will tell you al of what I know.
(Below she talked about supernatural creatures: Leprechauns, Boggans, Kelpies, Demons, Hearth Spirits, Changelings, Ghosts, and Vampires...)
VAMPIRES: Vampires are the worst because they look and talk like anyone. You would think they are fine, just all innocent and lost. But they are dead! You don't know what that means, but it is very clear to a true Aldean. Life is the source of all that is good. A human deprived of life is good only if they are natural- if there spirit moves on and their body feeds the florae of this world. But some dead humans pretend at life and this can only be evil. You can sesne it within them. They're skin is cold to the touch - even there breath is. But the purest sign that they are evil is that the blesings of Aldea shield against them. Think about this. The protection sign does not repel animals unless they are sick or possessed, but it does repel vampires. Aldea knows you should be protected from the false living.

Vitus- "You've heard that Marchese was the one who wanted to turn you all? That is close enough to true. It wasn't exactly a stink, the progenitors are very cordial with one another. The mystery predates your turning by about a week. Why were the first round of people turned? Marchese's idea - yours - were just adding to the number - an attempt at making things equal. By the end, every member of the Circle had turned one person."

Vitus- "We keep on like this and there won't be much left to discuss by the time we get there, though that environment isn't very conducive to conversation. It's quite festive... Well, 'at the same time' is relative. I was turned within a decade or so of Florence, who was a herself a few decades after Helen, Ellen, and Sarah. Marchese came to Harlan with Santi some time after I was turned... Even taking those four fellows and Chloë in one week was unprecedented in The Circle. I mostly have to concur with your assessment. It could be a recognition that these modern nights are more dangerous and survival rate may be lower, but I doubt they're that up on recent developments. And anyway, it isn't all that deadly. Especially if you know how to behave around your neighbors. I will let you know that if it's some weird design of the progenitors, I don't believe their eldest children are involved or interested in seeing ... whatever come to pass without protest. But this is quite beyond me at the moment."
The amber haze swelled and receded like an erratic rhythm as traffic lightened for several long blocks.

Vitus- "Just a classic sort of hoodlum. Used to wear a leather jacket and jeans. Traded up to a naval peacoat. We've been good friends for a long time now, but necessarily don't spend much time together in Harlan proper. Something like, oh, forty years ago? We used to road trip to the suburbs. I think there's too many vampires to do that safely these nights - at least with any regularity. Anyway, we'd pretend to be bikers and frequent a few roadhouses for blood."

Vitus- "Nothing important. In the time I've known Farley, the human population of Harlan has possibly doubled. More humans, more vampires. But we can spot each other at night, with the heat sense, and that makes it possible for the territorially inclined to pick you out and cause trouble. There's more claimed territory now is what it means."

Vitus- "You've met the whole of The Circle. Demigods though some may seem, they are in numbers more like a primary school class. You can't watch the whole city at once. What have you heard about the Crowboys?"

Vitus- "Aside from us and stray visitors, they're the only vampires in Harlan. Their progenitor is unknown, either having been born or coming here from elsewhere maybe eighty years ago, and has kept a low profile - except for these vampires he's turned. We have a really bad relationship - I'm something of an exception - but their harassment of interlopers does make it possible for The Circle to repel serious competition without much effort. I'll say this - they can be dangerous to you, at this point in your life. So avoid their neighborhoods when you're not with me, and do your best to be peaceful and deferent with them if I'm not present."

Vitus- "Demy told me an interesting story or two about that. Dragomir is pretty choosy about new blood. It'd never happen. Especially since the first thing this progenitor did was start turning lots of vampires without permission. There are definitely other entities like The Circle - especially in major cities - but they're secretive enough we tend to only hear rumors at best. There's no communication that I know of. I've heard there's a lineage that turns into foxes and migratory thrushes over in Weston, very powerful despite the sound of that."

Vitus- "If Weston is as hospitable to outsiders as Harlan, we're better off staying at home. I do go down to Parkville and other suburbs very occasionally..."
((I'm going to bed now, but do you want to skip to the cloughb whence I return? At this pace of conversation, we could fill up another page or two for how long it would actually take to get where they're going.))

Then he asked Vitus the thing about powers, to which V said - Vitus- "It's a little hard to explain verbally, and I'm distracted... How about this?" He started to speak directly into Eli's ear. "Listen to me. I'll talk like this until you can hear it - until you can feel what I'm doing. Try to get a feeling like when you use shadow powers, but don't focus on the shadows. Just listen to me talking. Got it?"
{originally} Eli temporarily put the phone down.
"Umm...I'll try..." He remembered being able to feel the shadows around him, but this seemed so different. Still, Eli attempted to get in the same 'zone' as before and focus in on Vitus' voice.
