The car drove up one side of Observatory Hill and down the other. The landscape here was so steep that it was relatively underdeveloped and overgrown with scrubby dark forests full of beer cans and debris. Down some winding roads, Ellen found the turn off ... a short dirt lane led to an opening, where a grand cathedral loomed over the dilapidated grounds. She drove through some gravel to another building nearby - a crumbling abbey, probably over a hundred years old. Home?
The patch of firmament they parked on seemed more or less random, and Ellen and the younger vampires stepped out onto hard mud with sparse weeds and bits of gravel scattered about. She led them toward the building...

The abbey was straight from a horror movie. Secluded, sprawling, owned by a vampire ... She felt a nagging pang of envy - at least August and Quinn would live in a swanky manor with a pool and hot tub.
During the walk, Babette drifted behind Ellen, unconsciously using the woman's body as a meat shield. She faked a yawn." I'm very tired. Can we go directly to bed?"

Leo whistled once the cathedral came into view. She had never seen if before, and the sight was worthy of a canvas. Her inner artist greatly appreciated it's aesthetic appeal. "Beautiful.." It was ironic that creatures of the undead were going to be living in, if not nearby such a structure. She trailed behind a little to get a good image of it in her mind, and then caught back up."So, where's the man of the hour?"

Ellen- "He's inside. He loves going out on the town but only if he's in the right mood. He was too excited yesterday. Sleepy? Uh, that's only possible in the daytime but I think I understand what you mean... Also, you're both welcome in the abbey here."
The looming shape of the cathedral rose overhead as they approached the lot, but Ellen led them instead to a smaller building surrounded by a slightly crumbled courtyard decorated with old world columns. They entered the dark halls, and stood on the cold marble floor. Ellen- "I actually live in another building, as will you, but you should meet Aubrey first.
Dad?"
Somewhere below was a clatter of metal. Ellen- "Must be working with his crafts... Come with me."
She began descending a heavy stone staircase into an even darker hall.

What was up with that? Babette must not want to see Aubrey. Bummer! Leo was only able to give a shrug in return, though. It wasn't like she could take back what she said. She mouthed the words 'My bad' and gave her a pat on the shoulder. "Crafts. Sounds fun." She eagerly followed Ellen.

As she descended, Babette made adamant hand gestures at Leo. She resembled a mime trying to deliver an impassioned speech about ... something. Babette finished her episode by drawing a finger across her own throat. Her eyes rolled back, and her head flopped to one side. Her tongue peeked from one corner of her mouth. Yet again, Babette was double dead. Then, she composed herself and continued with dignity.

Leo stifled a laugh, shaking her head at the poor girl. He wasn't that bad, surely. She was sure that Babette was overreacting a tad there. "Relax homie. Trileon's got you." And here we see the first time she has extended any sort of affection to Babette. Since they would be living together, it would be better for them both if she got that out of the way upfront.

The lower floors of the abbey were as dank and moist as one would imagine a medieval prison to be. Something dripped somewhere, and the air was lightly scented with rat feces and wet stone. Ellen gestured for them to wait, and she went ahead to look in darkened alcoves. Ellen- "...Dad? ...Dad. The girls are here."
Aubrey- "The girls?! Oh!!!"
This was followed by a loud clatter and the sound of glass breaking. A large figure lurched into view. Aubrey- "You have arrived! Oh! Come to me, children!"
He beckoned with a jeweled hand.

She was a little taken aback by the stench, but was in no way frightened by Aubrey. By this time she had gotten used to everything, and she actually seemed pleased by the current situation. She stepped forward with semi-hesitant steps. "It's wonderful to see you again." She turned to Babette and flashed a smile. 'Smile and nod Babs, just like you told me. Smile and nod..'

Aubrey- "My daughters! My heart has broken into the happiest of shards upon seeing your faces once more! I can see you! Without the veil of mortal fire."
He wrapped lengthy arms around them both, and squeezed them a bit too tightly against his cold, bony frame. Ellen- "Dad! Just because they're dead doesn't mean you should crush them."
Aubrey- "I have beautful prizes for you my lovely enfants. And you, the beautiful prizes to me." He kept Babette and Leo clutched against him.

Leo found the hug to be a little uncomfortable, and not because Aubrey was crushing her spine. She didn't really know what to say.. ".."
"Y-yeah! Thank you Aubrey, it's awesome to be apart of the family now." 'Not really. I could use something to drink.' "Prizes? I can't wait to see it, haha.." Ugh, dammit Leo. Could you be any more awkward?!

"Oh my sweet darlings, I am so happy! I am so happy I could--"
Ellen- "Dad? Dad! Wh-what about the gifts? Right? You were going to give them gifts!"
Aubrey- "Of course..."
He let them free, and wiped his eyes gingerly. Aubrey- "I'm not quite finished with my creation, but I do have a small gift for my Venus, Babette."
He produced two gold earrings that looked familiar. They were caked with blood.
Aubrey- "You dropped these last night! I saved them for you..." Ellen looks like she's about to stop him, but he moves toward Babette with the earrings...
