Angela- "Hm, well, OK... I have to confess, the ideals of the human form are my highest interest. The strong, the fine, the well-formed... Some find romance in frailty, but life in the fullness of its vigor. Nature found perfection in man, and the rest of the world, to me, is just decoration or framing for that perfection. You prefer this Kohonese feeling to that?"

Trevor - "I think maybe so. There is also a style of painting where the human is made very small next to nature. I see that is life."

Angela- "Well, it takes all kinds, I suppose. It's easy to find yourself not knowing what to say when you meet someone with whom you have little in common, but I believe one can always find a common ground. For us, it is this room and the people within it. How do you find my friends and family, Trevor?"

Trevor - "Ms. Inka was friendly and has good stories to tell. Her companion Ms. Florence is a beautiful person. Ms. Ellen was also friendly and we share a common interest. Mr. Marchese is enthusiastic in a charming way." "Mr. Nick was quiet but seemed like fun," Trevor thought but decided not to say aloud.

Angela- "Splendid! I'm so glad you got on well with them. Dominic - mm, Marchese - I am especially fond of. We are cut from the same cloth, so much so that it is easy to forget we have very different religious sentiments. Don't you hate it when some fundamental difference of belief or principle threatens to undermine a beautiful relationship? Not that we'd ever allow that to happen, we're much to dear to each other, but it has happened with others, and it is such a common experience, I cannot help but imagine it has happened to you. Do tell. Have you ever gotten on famously with someone only to discover they cherished some belief you held vile, or that they reviled something you hold dear?"

Angela- "Good, good, a sensible way to be, but not one I could practice. I just cannot be silenced. If I don't immediately say whatever I'm thinking of at the time, I'd go mad. It is, perhaps, why I've taken up the practice of writing. After all, we don't always have someone to speak to, so when I am alone I can speak to the page, as it were... I don't know if I can help you understand what that feels like. It is like a form of bondage, like being in a cage - being muted that is. Some animals have greater need of freedom than others. This is a freedom I cannot exist without. And why should I have to? Some people find it rude for a person to speak quite freely, but I'd find it ever more offensive for a person to always hold onto secret thoughts - especially when they are about someone else. If you know how you feel about someone, you should tell them, I always say. Anything else is just a waste of precious time..."
She sounds like she could go on all night about almost anything.

Angela was saying far too much, much too fast for Trevor to comprehend, but he was content to sit and listen to her go. It was almost like a spectacle.
((Trevor will just listen to her until Helen and Darren's table opens up.))

And so it went! Eventually, the table was open... ((We can go outside time for this. Kristi, intro urself at Helen & Darren's when you can, or if you want to do something else like hangin' loose, u can. Anyone else, you're free to come here.)) Eli- "Hi there, ready for another one?" (ORIGINALLY...) Eli rolled up, probably grudgingly, and introduces himself.

Angela- "Another like you? Any time. You have quite a debonair way about you, young man. And here you are among the artistes? The natural place for the beautiful and charming, I always say. Would you like to take a seat then?"
Eli- "Aw, that's so sweet, I'd be happy to." He wasn't someone who needed constant validation, but her compliment game was on point. Eli- " 'Among' the artistes, does that mean you are one as well?"
{originally} Angela- "Hello hello! Oh look at you! Exciting indeed! "
She leaned forward on the table so hard the vase rocked to its side with a clank. Angela- "So tell me every little thing, Eli. Eli! Eli! What a name, and what a young man attached to it! Everything attached to you is wonderful I'm sure! So how are you enjoying your evening so far? Don't tell me you're planning on leaving already! The last table? I hope you weren't saving me for last. Unless the best is for last? I like to imagine that, as I'm not sure if you're my last but you may just be the best I've talked to. I don't want to 'jump the gun' as they say, that's how they say it don't they? Well what do you do Eli? Besides work out that healthy body, I can see that much for myself! All of you are artists, and oh how I adore artists! I am a bit of an artist myself, though not an artist of the paints and palette but an artist of words! Imagine that! I know I love words and use as many of them as possible, haha! Are you a man of few words? I almost wonder that as you come to this table and you've already talked to everyone else and the night is still so young! How does that come to pass, young man? Do you find the other guests boring? How do you find them? Is there anyone you've particularly enjoyed talking to? I'll have to make sure I can make a good showing and do better than they did because even as you compete for our attention, we compete for your affection! That rhymed, oh dear I didn't even mean it, hahaha! But goodness, I've neglected to properly introduce myself! I am Angela Sombreta and this is Gaston-Louis. Don't worry about him, he is a strong and silent type and so many of your friends have worried about him but please do not as it's how he always is and he's content to be that way and is enjoying himself quite readily. Right Gaston-Louis?"
Gaston-Louis- "...Oui."
Eli said something somewhat dismissive about getting to know everyone. He mentioned having enjoyed talking to Tristan & Demy/Fran, and something about being a grandpa?

Angela- "I tend not to think of myself as such, and yet? I certainly am! I'm an artist of words, not just in my writing, humble as that is, but in the words that foster camaraderie, love, joy among friends. I'm a genius of the social, one might say. And what is your genius? For no one so blessed with loveliness is merely blessed in one way alone. Right, Gaston-Louis?" Gaston-Louis- "... ... ..."
Eli- "Ah! A raconteur? That's quite an impressive skill to have! I'm just the old fashioned artist, I guess, painting and drawing. How about you, Gaston-Louis?"
{originally} Angela- "Fantastic! Fantastic! Yes of course you'll have a lifetime to get to know everyone and lord knows we're all friends here! You'll be friends too! I am from Kastan, or Castaña as we say but it's been years. Oh yes Tristan is one of the young ones and they'll certainly have some adjusting to do but I'm sure they will as we're all young once and we can all understand that but look at me, talking to a young one about what it is like to be young! How foolish! Of course you would know what that's like and I don't need to be explaining it all to you. So what sort of art do you do? It's amazing to imagine someone like you would even need to have a talent because why would you need to? You're not one to coast along on your looks though are you? And of course it takes no effort to look as spectacular as you do so you'd have plenty of free time to develop marvelous skills and why not? You're not one to rest on your laurels, certainly, I can tell that much. Demetri and Francesca! Good friends, they are! That tells me much about you, you are surely business minded and no nonsense, unless of course it was more Francesca that you got along with but she's got her serious side too, don't let her fool you! An artist with a business mind, what would that be like? What do you want out of your art, is it a form of self expression or is it just a career path for you? Of course I don't need to tell you that those that go into the arts for money may be sorely disappointed but if it is an expression of the self that's certainly another matter altogether. I can of course relate to needing to express ones self, and everyone here can tell you that much! Yes everyone has a reputation but whether its earned or not is a question for the ages and I usually doubt it myself. What is your reputation like? Do you worry about such matters? How would you want people to think of you? How about after your time has come, not to bring morbid matters into the conversation but it's quite an interesting question and I always love to hear the answers, especially from the young and beautiful like yourself."
Eli was probably hinting about being gay because meta-game knowledge I guess. He mentioned something about his friends and family missing him if he was gone.

Gaston-Louis- Angela- "Even were I to get een a word "Oh Gaston-Louis, you sour-puss, edgewize, no one 'ere 'az dhe manly it's not that no one appreciates your qualidies to abbreciate zhe art of-" conception of art. It's just that your ideas lack anything to appreciate. Now, Eli, I see you have a sketchbook, mmm? Is there any chance we may glimpse betwixt its pages? See into your artistic heart, as it were?"
Eli- "Haha, ah, sure... Though it got a bit rumpled earlier after Lord Greyburn... appreciated it."
He handed over the book, the torn pages tucked inside the cover. The un-mangled parts featured some pretty decent life drawings and no self-portraits, let alone ones that conveniently portrayed his orientation.{originally} Angela seemed immune to hints, but nodded eagerly at Eli's words. Angela- "Oh aren't friends and family the most important thing? That's what I always say and I care so much about my family. Vitus, Gaston-Louis, the new one, they're all so dear to me and I would hate any harm to come to them. Yes, I can't imagine how it must feel to be apart from your loved ones but surely one could find new ones to love if they needed to especially when one is so lovable if you don't find it presumptuous of me to presume that you are lovable but how could you not be? A Grandpa? Ha! I can scarcely imagine it though your dreams must be your own and it's rather charming for someone so young to be looking so far into the future. Who knows what the future may hold for us and how things may change even if we don't want to but you never know that they may end up better than you'd expect and in fact be better than you could've dreamed of even if it seems unlikely at the time. I saw you showing a book to Aubrey and I would hate to think I am missing out on something special and I would just be delighted to look at whatever it might contain. It's wonderful art isn't it? I just love looking at art and I would love to see what you create! Did you know my son Vitus once played at being an artist? He gave that up quite quickly though as he is better at being appreciated than at making any meaningful insights sadly, though I love him dearly. He once modeled nude for artists and I think that is a better job for him, don't you think? Oh if you are an artist he could model for you and it would just be a happy family of artists! Wonderful! You are so like my sons and I think you would just fit in splendidly. You talked to Vitus, isn't he charming? You would get along so well I'm sure and that other one is young like yourself and I'm sure you'll have much in common like using those little telephones and whatnot."
She eyed Eli's messenger bag and smiled winningly.A black hole is a place where light cannot esca- wait, what? He wasn't Leo. Shit.
Eli couldn't help but check out a little from the conversation. It was all so much, in such a little time. He could only keep up for so long before running out of steam. ...She wanted to see his sketchbook? Somehow he doubted she'd tell him it was best off as recycling material, at least... "Er, uh, sure. One moment..." Eli produced the same black sketchbook. This time, he flipped open the book to a specific page. One one side of the open book was a drawing of Eli in a passionate embrace with another man. Both had dual symbols of Mars painted on their cheeks. On the other side was more text, a brief story of Eli's own coming out and the harms of living in a heteronormative society. This one, however, did not have a photograph. He placed the open book flat on the table near Angela.
"You should start here, it's my most recent project. That's actually the last one in the series, but I sketched it out first. At first, it was going to be my coming out project. As gay. I'm pretty sure most people at BADA know I'm gay by now, but I guess it started out of me wanting to completely bust down the closet doors. I just want to be open about it, and maybe set an example for people who were in the same place that I once was. But it evolved into this message of love and acceptance for all queer people. I've met so many amazing, brave people through this particular series. Now, I'm nearly done with the final piece, and then I'll prepare for the show. Should be in about a month, give or take." Of all his works, this was by far Eli's favorite. Usually he shied away from more personal topics, but this was the exception. It was a necessary conclusion to his own self acceptance, or so he felt.
"Er, sorry, that might have been a bit much. I just think it's important for there to be more openly gay role models out there. And I want to be one of them, especially in academia. The more I think about it, the more I realize just how vital it is." Somehow, the more he said it out loud, the more he believed it to be true'

Angela- "Lovely, lovely art. Dear Aubrey added an interesting touch to it in his way, though, don't you think? Whatever the case, I find it charming, not because any given element of it is transcendant or amazing, but because taken as a whole they complete the image of you - the artiste, the romantic young man grasping for the meaning of it all..." Angela- "And what of your other romantic aspect, the pursuit of love? What interesting entanglements have you been up to of late? You don't have to say anything, but it's not as if I would know any of the principal players in your personal dramas, so who better to talk to about them?"
Eli- "Oh? Oh... Haha, ummmmmm... N-nothing exciting, really... You know, school, the film and stuff... I've been pretty busy..." Gah! She was as bad as his aunt. Eli- "Wait, are you trying to get ideas for your writing? You'll have to cut me in on the profit if you do."
Smooth diversion!{originally} Angela- "The art is as beautiful as I expected, brilliant in fact. I was asked about beauty tonight by some little fellow and tried to communicate my sense of that to him - a failure I think - but I can see here someone who feels exactly as I do on that matter. Such beautiful bodies, exquisitely rendered... "
Angela- "I'm sure I've no idea why you feel the need to tell me all of those particulars, but I definitely endorse saying whatever's on one's mind at all times, as you can imagine I always do. Artistic freedom - it's such a vital thing and for so much of history it has been lacking. Truly we live in a golden age, this Great Peace. One can do whatever one's heart desires, why, within certain legal restrictions, but I've definitely seen artists pursue visions that bent or disregarded even those. Your show is in a month, yes? But it's just a student show, you could just as easily skip it and go straight into the world of the anointed, if you will - the places where artists of special vision and beauty are held aloft by the adoring crowds. We do adore. And I meant what I said about Vitus earlier. Well, he doesn't have the spectacular tone of yourself and your fellow model here, but his beauty has a simple fairness I think you could appreciate - especially to paint, so the progress of light through his skin can be arrested and presented for the delectation of all. There's something about the male form particularly that arrests me, and as you well know that desire isn't merely some petty biological function predicated on a single gender. A man in the fullness of health is like a magnificent stallion -an overused metaphor, to be certain, but a hard one to resist. There's a power there that's impossible to deny. Potence, virility, these words pale before the reality of such a thing, don't you think?"
"It's interesting how opinions an differ, even in the same room. That fellow over there seemed more interested in recycling the paper than anything else. And I just thought I'd explain my work since, you know, that's what you're looking at. Sorry if that came across as random."
"You flatter me, truly. But my goal is not to become famous. My place is in academia, fostering a love of art in future generations. That's all I want." Eli thought of Vitus. He didn't seem all that interested in being a model. "Maybe some day I will paint Vitus, if he's still interested in modeling..."
When it came to desire, Eli was more than a little annoyed. Was she...denying his sexuality? "I have to agree and disagree with you on desire. There are a number of reasons why anyone is any sexuality. It is a complex mixture of many factors. But I think all sexualities are valid and neither is more right and wrong than the others. Some, like mine, are indeed limited to a single gender. Others? Not so much. Like Leo's, for instance. For some reason, we are the way we are and there's simply no way to change that. And, frankly? There's no need to. The world is made up of all kinds of people and that's what makes it so beautiful."

Hmmm. Swords. . . . .
Angela- "HahaHA! Oh you're so charming, as charming as you are adorable, but no, I wasn't seeking fresh material per se, though how can one avoid putting the things they learn in life into their own art, as art always invests some portion of who we are, and memories are part of that? I hardly remember by now what I was talking about when I started that sentence. This game was a splendid idea on Dominic's part, but it's getting to me. Overstimulation, you understand? But then, who wants to be understimulated?"
Eli- "There have been a lot of lively discussions, huh? I almost forget about the game part--"
Eli- "But I do plan to win!"
Eli- "Oh I found out a lot of people here are related. How do you know everyone?"
{originally} Hmmm. Swords. . . . .
Angela- "Good good, yes, good... Hm... I'm not certain where I see a disagreement there, but it is a lovely sentiment. I myself have lain with a women from time to time. I was merely pointing out that I have a greater appreciation for the male form, which is in perfect agreement with your art, and I can tell you have a very keen eye for beauty. It makes sense for a beautiful person to hold the world to a higher standard of beauty their self, it has been said this is one of the greatest difficulties of possessing natural beauty. Like the stories of the great beauties of the ages, how they could not find anyone to stir their hearts, and that when they do, the jealous gods would confound their mortal moment of perfect harmony. Of course the other curse of beauty is to have too many unwanted suitors, you know that I've had that problem a few times through the years? These pathetic creatures with their moustaches and rings, who has the time, am I right? If I may speak to you in confidence, I may have broken a few hearts in this very room. But such is our curse, right? Not that I could quite compare myself to you, in your youthful sun-painted magnificence. I wonder enough to ask again, could you say, what manner of athletics you engage in to create such an impressive physique?" "Oh, okay. For a second there, I thought you were echoing the sentiments of those people who seem to believe everyone is bisexual. ""Oh, me? Nothing much, just swimming." Eli rubbed a nervous hand against the back of his neck. This was getting so embarrassing. "I'm really not some magnificent beauty, I'm just a regular dude. Really.""Actually...Um, Mr. Gaston-Louis, was it? Since we're on the subject of physiques... If you don't mind me saying so, you look like you could crack a few skulls. Are you a fighter of some sort?"

Angela- "Oh, it's too long of a tale to recount, I assure you. My life has been quite full, my heart, I've seen so many beautiful people coming and going, where to even begin? Suffice it to say, when I came here from the continent, I made some fast friends here in Harlan, and they remain dear to me to this night. Tomasz, Inka, Aubrey, and most of all, Dominic. Of course their children are all darling. Er, children and wards in various not-quite-familial relationships, or whatever we're saying... How did you come to know your artistic companions?"
Eli- "Oh it's pretty simple, they put up some fliers around campus and I signed up for the job. I didn't need to stick around as much as I did but I thought everyone was really cool so I got myself invited to everything, haha. Where on the continent are you from? My mother is Kastanian but I haven't been there in a few years."
{originally} Angela- "What are these labels for? I'm afraid I'm from another world as far as this goes. What works for the people of today may work for them, but - not to sound as old as the hills - it all seems quite forced and unnatural from my point of view. One could argue that men loving men was at a peak of cultural approval in ancient Kallas, and they had no use of these terms then... Oh, the humility, it always comes next, and why?"
Gaston-Louis- "Why bother?"
Angela- "Oh Gaston-Louis is quite brilliant with a sword, antiquated skill that it is. He um, does... what is it again that you do?"
Gaston-Louis- "Honestly?"
Angela- "Don't be rude, you should answer a question."
Gaston-Louis- "I combine ze fencing technique of East and West Nourian, a dash of ze Aegenian, to bec--"
Angela- "--Become quite good at what he does. But then, how often does one get attacked with a sword? It's a bit embarrassing to learn something that is rendered obsolete by advances in... martialry, or whatever. Rather like being the master of the wheellock rifle." Eli's eyes lit up. A swordsman? How dramatic! "Dude, seriously? That's legit."
"Have you ever gotten in like big battles or something? Or stabbed a bunch of guys? Do you have any cool stories?"
