((Describe the first three pages, not in sequence, but that someone would come to flipping open at random.))
He was used to needing something to show off to randos, so this one had a little better work than the usual random eye drawn every other page. It contained some decent enough life drawings, some half-hearted attempts at designing comic book characters. Luckily he kept his commission work digital or he'd be cringing a lot harder. There were some plans about paintings that never came to be, and notes from art history when he forgot his normal notebook.{originally}The first page was clearly stapled in, as the paper was quite different from the rest of the book. It was much heavier and contained an acrylic painting of a scene. It is surreal, akin to this.
The second page is a collage. The different bits of paper and magazine form the image of a veiled woman. Only her eyes are visible, and they have a haunting, soulful look. Some of the collage has been painted on to create more values.
The final page shows a realistic drawing of a fierce looking Aegenian man. The man is lithe, with an androgynous look, but the piece seems to convey toughness. If an individual was looking with the book flat on the table, they would see the drawing on one half of the book and something else on the other (That is, there is text on the back of the previous page's drawing). On that side is an interview with the man about his hardships, what he has overcome. Wedged in between the two is a photograph, which shows a gigantic canvas leaning against the wall. The same man is on the canvas, done in a hyperrealistic style. Even though it is a photograph, the scale of the work is quite obvious.
All three works seem to have far more effort put into them than one would expect of a sketchbook. They all seem quite detailed, perhaps a sign of its creator's compulsive habits.

Aubrey reached for the seam of the book. Before Ellen could stop him, he was tearing sheaves of paper out and lying them on the table to examine. Eli- "Oh my god!!! Ah...!! Please don't--!" Ellen- "Dad! I think he wants to keep those!" Aubrey- "What? I'd like to have this one. I think I could use it."
Aubrey- "These pieces are quite humdrum. I suppose while tolerable for a student... It doesn't speak to your character as an artist. The finest art shows the emotion of the creator. It is as though you are as routine as our creator. Man must strive to be better than god in this respect. Do not shackle yourself to the weight of verisimilitude. The most interesting thing about man is what is inside - dripping viscera, boiling humours, the chalky splintering of bones--" Ellen- "--It's-- it's very nice, Eli, I'm sorry..." Aubrey- "I'll make good use of this paper. It holds the glue well.
{originally} Aubrey reached for the seam of the book, like he was about to pull the pages out for a closer look. Ellen's hand appeared on top of the giant man's so quickly it seemed to appear from nowhere. She looked up at him a bit nervously. Ellen- "Dad, I think he wants to keep those."
Aubrey- "What? I'd like to have this one. I think I could use it."
Ellen- "Maybe he could get you a copy?"
Aubrey- "*grooan*"
Aubrey- "I'd like these collages, but the realism is so ... old-fashioned... It doesn't speak to your character as an artist. My favorite art shows the emotion of the creator. It is as though you are as routine as our creator. Man must strive to be better than god in this respect. Do not shackle yourself to the weight of verisimilitude. The most interesting thing about man is what is inside - dripping viscera, boiling humours, the chalky splintering of bones--"
Ellen- "--That's very nice. You must have a lot of skill. Very skillful."
Aubrey- "Yes. I want this paper. It holds the glue well.
Ellen eased the book out of Aubrey's hand.
He...just wanted the paper? Was that what he was saying? Lovely, the first person who saw his work and the only thing he was concerned with was recycling it.
"Thanks, Ellen." He gave the girl a weak smile. Eli could imagine she had to deal with a lot. He reached for his sketchbook.
"I appreciate your critique, and I'll certainly take it into account. But, for now, I ought to head out and talk to some of the others. Nice meeting you both."
'Now if only I could leave this place entirely. Should've just stayed at the dorms and watched corny old movies with Toby...'
As soon as Eli had his sketchbook tucked away, he went back towards Leo. Now, he could finally speak to her.

Babette approached timidly. Something about this table made her feel anxious. Maybe it was the bird. Yeah, it was definitely the bird." Hello. It's a pleasure to meet you ... you both ... " Yeesh. Calm down. They wouldn't bite."*Cough.* Excuse me. I'm Babette. The actress in Lychgate."

Aubrey- "Venus!"
Lord Greyburn nearly knocked the table's vase over to hand the flower to Babette.
Ellen- "Not yet Dad! We're supposed to talk to everyone...
Aubrey- "What more is there to say?"
Ellen- "*sigh* Ask her a question."
Aubrey- "It is always a game, the parlor games of fools. Enchantress, how do you find me tonight? How have I never before gazed upon you and heard your beneficent words? "
Ellen- "Um yeah. So I'm Ellen and this is Lord Greyburn--"
Aubrey- "Aubrey! Aubrey! Call me by my true name. You alone, my dainty divinity."
Ellen- "So um, would you like to ask us something?"
Aubrey- "Ask as you will, but know that I am yours."

Say something! Say something! Stop staring at his bird! He just complimented you, Babette ... maybe? Yes, those were definitely compliments.
But she couldn't tear her eyes away from it. The vermillion was hypnotic and dreadful. Or was it actually wonderful? Who could tell anymore?
What did Demetri say about his fashion today? Oh, yes. 'A classical reference to Worshipper Cedric. Not very daring by his cracked standards.' Better leave out the last part.
"Thank you , Aubrey. You're flattering me too much, really. Is that ... it is ... you are referencing ... Worshipper Cedric?" She was like a poet with the words and the speaking of the words.

Aubrey- "I do not flatter, I speak only the truth. Yes! Cedric! You are well versed in theology as well? I should only except as much. Beauty does not infect only the visage, but the mind as well. 'La belle maladie!' "
He twirled the plucked flower between bejeweled fingers.
Aubrey- "Do not fear me, child. I am before you, a lamb. Babette... Le petit bébé? You are Bribois? I wish to hear your every glittering word. Tell me how you feel in this human form. Tell me how you feel swaddled in a tangle of veins and the la chaleur du corps."
Ellen- "Yeeeeah. So fun night, huh? You're an actor, was this your first role or have you done other work?"

Aubrey- "Great things shall come to pass, indeed. Acting is a form of immortality, is it not? What would you do with the rest of your mortal days? What great things would you hope to accomplish?"
He plucked a petal from the flower with nimble, spindly fingers.Ellen- "No dad, we need to keep that for later..."
Aubrey- "What else are flowers for, but to be plucked? Better now than to wither on the vine..."
Ellen- "It's already plucked, we just don't want it to be a mangled stem for the ceremony."
Aubrey- "What does it matter to be mangled? It exists for my enjoyment."
Ellen- "*groan*"

Aubrey snaked out a cold bony hand to touch Babette's as she spoke, his eyes sparkling.
Aubrey- "Do not fret, child, you shall create art, be art forever! I will see to it."
Ellen- "...Err, well I'm a scientist of sorts. I'm interested in astronomy and the nature of the supernatural insofar as it relates to--"
Aubrey- "Yes yes, it's very interesting. My goddess, Babette, what would your most splendid role be? Besides the part you play now, the supreme beauty."

Babette clutched his cold hand but released it quickly. Years of service industry work had taught her to avoid touchy touchies during professional situations.
"It's hard to be humble when you compliment me that way." (teeheeteehee)"I've always wanted to portray the exiled Empress Lemuria. ((OOC: I'm just makin stuff up now ... feel free to change!)) It's been too long since her myth was revisited. That story has everything - star-crossed lovers, betrayal, vengeance, bitter victory, tragedy ... The contemporary audience must learn how to appreciate epic tragedies again. Don't you think?" "Oh, Ellen ... you should speak to Leo about the night sky, if you're able. She so loves astronomy."

Aubrey- "Yes! Everything is a tragedy, isn't it? If one sees things as they truly are!"
Ellen- "Dad, take it down a notch, huh?"
Aubrey- "Of course..."
Ellen- "Huh, interesting. Not many young people have that interest. I'll be sure to ask her about it. So did you always want to be an actor? Film or stage?"
Aubrey- "You have an interest in tragedy? Tell me not that your life has been tragic, it is too dreadful to imagine."
